🎂🎉🥳♿ It's Celebration Saturday! Today we're celebrating Emma's 2nd Birthday! For Emma, this is a huge accomplishment. Emma was only 3 weeks old when we took her in. She had contracted CAE (Carine Arthritis Encephalitis) birth and it was rapidly taking effect over her body (front legs specifically). There is no cure for CAE. The lady who had Emma took her to one of the vets we use. They had discussed euthanizing Emma, but after talking they decided to contact us to see if we would take Emma into MVS. We agreed and went to pick her up. We're so thankful that they decided to let us give Emma a chance at life. Emma's prognosis was poor. She was a 3 week old baby who was already crippled. CAE is a fatal condition. When babies contract it, it usually proves fatal within weeks. We were told that Emma would be a hospice case and that she probably wouldn't make it another month. Today we celebrate her 2nd Birthday! I cared for Emma in my bedroom for over 1 year until she was grown enough to move outside into her own little house. Emma has adapted her own way of walking, running, jumping and playing despite her front legs being disabled. Her determination is inspiring to say the least. She is a loving and kind hearted friend to everyone here at MVS. With CAE being a terminal condition, we know that each and every day with Emma is a blessing and a gift. We took in Archie (foreground) 4 yrs ago this month as a "Goat with broken leg good for butcher" we got his leg fixed and he's been loving life and making new friends ever since. Friends like Moe who came to us nearly 1 yr ago with his companions Sawyer and Nacho after their human mom passed away. We really need your help to stock up on straw and hay asap. We used up a lot of straw, hay and feeds during this recent snow storm and have another storm coming tomorrow. Hopefully the mud dries and we can get out before the snow starts, to grab what supplies we're able to get. At the moment each bale of straw costs $7.49 at Big R and each bag of feed is around $20 depending what it is (pig, chicken etc).
