Green day supports Generative AI and here's the proof.

Last week, a couple scaled the empire state building and hung a flag with an amazing statement. You may have seen. Sadly, a ton of brands and people have been editing this photo with AI to push their own ideas. A couple days ago, a fan of green day posted their own ai edited photo saying “green say, please make new music.” Today, Mike Dirt and a very popular and a Green day supported fan account, Green day Italy, both reposted the image on their story hyping up the statement. Yes, I know green day Italy is their own entity and doesn't entirely reflect back on the band, but every official green day account and all the band members follow and support them. BJ Armstrong, yes, no longer has any social media accounts, be he did follow them when he did.

This isn't the first case they have supported AI. A couple months ago, Instagram suggested an ai video app to me and Tre Cool was cited to have it downloaded. I didn't think much of it at the time since Instagram could have gotten it wrong. Sadly I don't have a screenshot. But then a couple weeks later, the first official trailer for Nimrods came out. Notice the TV, the inconsistent proportions for everything and the overall AI generated feel of it. I originally thought that I was looking too far into things and possibly green day didn't have much control over this advertisement.

I know in 2025, Billie Joe Armstrong went out and criticized Will Smith for using AI for a tour video. But AI has become more mainstream and everyday I see more and more “punk” bands using it in advertising and album covers.

Ai isn't punk. Never has, never will be. No matter what generative AI you use, you are supporting the destruction of the environment, the collapse of democracy, the loss of jobs and destruction of the lives of artists, and ultimately supporting capitalism and fascism.
