🌿Spring Cleaning🌻
For those of you feeling particularly inspired by the impending spring
Begin by pumping up the jams, or turning on your TV. For me personally, it’s much easier to clean when I have some background noise.
Open shades/blinds/window curtains to let some natural light in (if you are doing this during the day)
Lay out any products/appliances you will be using during this process. Gather up some trash bags as well. You’re going to need lots of paper towels, cleaning rags, and/or disinfecting wipes.
The best place to start is de-cluttering. Figure out what you still need or want (it’s okay to be sentimental).
Your closet/storage places is a good start. Any clothes you don’t wear anymore can be sold or donated. Places like Goodwill are open all the time! Clothes that are beyond repair can be thrown out.
Also! Donation places like Goodwill are always in desperate need of hangers! So if you have an excess of hangers - feel free to include those in your donation.
Starting with de-cluttering will help you feel less overwhelmed when you move on to actually cleaning your space. It’s easier to clean when you have way less to clean.
Any surface you clean today - clean it like you want your security deposit back. Clean it like the Queen or the Pope is coming into town and staying with you. Clean it like your mother is visiting.
I’d move onto the fridge/pantry next. Toss out expired foods. Wipe down the shelves in your fridge.
Move on to picking up any trash you may have in each room. Take the trash out to the proper receptacle immediately.
If you are a plate/bowl/cup hoarder like myself, move those into the kitchen for washing.
Wash dishes and such after all trash is gone and dishes have been brought to the sink.
Wash your bed sheets/pillow cases
Make your bed.
Start wiping off all surfaces (desk tops, kitchen counter tops, shelves, mirrors, windows, ledges, pictures, blinds, posters, etc.) Get all of that neglected dust out of here.
Wipe down your cabinets and appliances. Get all of the food stains out of the microwave. Place the revolving plate in your microwave into the dishwasher and give it a good rinse (or hand wash it if you prefer)
Vacuum, sweep and mop floors.
Scrub toilets and bathtub/showers.
Throw out any old cosmetics. You can look on the back to see how long before these items expire! There will be an emblem that indicates how many months a product is good for.
Start a load of laundry after your bed sheets get done. Dry and fold the laundry. Repeat as necessary.
Bring any rugs you may have outside and shake them out. I always like to hit items like rugs or window curtains with a fabric freshener.
Use this dedicated cleaning time to bring some of your indoor plants outside for a bit.
For the love of GOD please wipe your ceiling fan blades down those things can get NASTY.
Go along your base-boards (the molding at the bottom of your walls) with a wet towel/rag. Dust likes to hide there.
Today is a good day to bathe pets, if applicable.
Finish up by lighting candles or spraying some air freshener.
I would suggest taking a nice shower or bath afterwards to wash any chemicals, dirt, or sweat off.
