Whoops
If Iâd known my last post would be seen by so many people, Iâd have shined my table.
Congratulations to the âlittle webseries that couldâ. From vlogging in a dormroom, to having their faces peeking out all over the UK today.Â
Special appearance from scratched coffee table.Â
I just read about this cool myth, it's an urban legend about this man named the Smiler. I'm pretty well-read but I'd never heard about this one before. No one is completely sure what he looks like because it's nearly impossible to see him. The Smiler is a man who stands behind you in the part of the vision that you can't see. He's got a permanent grin that extends past the sides of his face, showing each and every one of his bright white teeth. His wide bloodshot eyes always face forwards, and he has no eyelids and so can never blink. The Smiler always leans forward with his fingers outstretched hovering motionless just centimetres away from the back of your head. He has no reflection and no matter how fast you turn around, he will always remain behind you. Reports say that you can never be sure when he's there, except for the funny feeling that there's someone watching you. Some say the skin on the back of your neck prickles with the sensation of having cold fingers suspended so close to you, yet never touching. Some say that the temperature in the room drops ever so slightly, and some say that they suddenly feel fear drop into their stomach like a dead weight. The good news about this man is that there is only one of him and he is only ever in one place at one time. The bad news is that as soon as someone learns of his existence, he will instantly appear behind them and he won't leave until that person tells of his existence to someone else. I'm so sorry.

Right there with you. I stress-ate 6 biscuits. Six! (I never eat biscuits)
This was posted one week prior. Spooky!
An open letter to Jason Rothenberg and the writers of The 100:
Let me start off by saying that I understand sometimes fan favourites must die. Â There are times when it is simply the best option for the characters and the show as a whole to have one of them killed. Â Sometimes, it really is what works best. Â I would also like to say that I am not just angry that one of my favourite characters was killed. Â Thatâs what happens, especially on shows like The 100 where the stakes are so high. Â Nobodyâs favourites are safe.
However, the issue here is not the death of a favourite. Â Itâs that we were led to believe that this wouldnât happen. Â We were told to have hope. Â That we would be happy with how things turned out for Clarke and Lexa. Â We were actively encouraged to have faith in a good outcome for what has been one of, if not the best-written f/f couples on television. Â You made us think we werenât going to be fobbed off with another Tragic Lesbian Death.
And yet that is exactly what happened. Â For shock value, in the dubious name of furthering a plot that honestly was not outstanding anyway and could have been improved by any number of means that did not involve killing Lexa, you did exactly what you encouraged us to believe you wouldnât do. Â You killed her. For shock value.
Because of last night, I and my fellow LGBTQ viewers have been made to feel used, strung along for increased ratings to boost the showâs popularity. Â We do not exist to boost ratings, we are not just an audience percentage. Â We came to this show hoping to find the well-written, safe love story we have so long been denied but that heterosexual viewers have had since the beginning of television.
Because of last night, I will no longer be able to put my faith in a f/f couple in any show, no matter how much I am reassured I should hold out hope. Â The question will always be at the front of my mind: âBut didnât The 100 writers say that, once?â Â
After last night, I can no longer look at one of my favourite shows and say âLook.  Thereâs a character whoâs like me.  Thereâs a relationship like mine.  Thereâs a woman whose story doesnât revolve around her sexuality, and has a relationship with another woman while also having a kickass storyline.  Thereâs my representation.â  Thanks to you, none of us can do that.
And you know what? Â We canât just find that again. Â Unlike other relationships, there arenât ten different replacements waiting in other shows. Â This was something unique, and special, and not only is it now gone, but we were encouraged to believe it was here to stay. Â And that abuse of trust, more than anything, is why I will not watch this show again.
Congratulations. Â If the thought of fucking over an entire audience of young, LGBTQ people who trusted you and your writing to give them something good doesnât make you realise how shitty what youâve done is, I hope a dramatic drop in ratings do. Â
Fuck you.
