I don’t think I’ll ever be normal about Katniss Everdeen. She was from the poorest part of the poorest district. She lost her father at 11 years old and became the main caregiver for both her mom and younger sister. She is fully in survival mode, the exact circumstances Dr. Gaul taught Snow that would cause humanity to be at their worst and be willing to be the most primal, violent versions of themselves. And yet she still has so much love and empathy for others. She could see her little sister in a girl from another district who was never meant to survive in the games and yet she took care of her until the end and properly honored her death. Even when someone is in the perfect position to not care for others, in a literal deadly competition, she is a symbol of what having a true love and compassion for humanity looks like. That’s why she is the spark for the rebellion. Even when we are living under oppressive governments and are set to compete with one another, it is truly rebellious to love and care for each other.
