No, not every man. But, it could be any man.
So you believe all men are rapists from default? Well that isn’t sexist at all.
“Not every man” - Me, in that post right there, the one you just read. the post you literally just replied to
All men start as Schrödinger’s Rapist - they are known to have the potential to be rapists, and they are known to not show traits that would specifically put them in the “yes” or “no” category.
But we do have some strong indicators of the potential, like “he ignores boundaries” - he keeps demanding attention, ignores “please leave me alone” requests, calls after being told “I don’t want to date you.” Another strong sign is defensiveness - reacting to that something said about a group he belongs to as if it were aimed at him personally.
If I said, “I work in a coffee shop, and sometimes, people who can’t pay come in and just stare at everything and make a nuisance of themselves. Not every man is unemployed, but any man I meet could be unemployed,” men with jobs wouldn’t jump on the post and say, “but I’M NOT UNEMPLOYED” nor “but you can’t just judge all men like that!” or “you shouldn’t accuse people of being jobless just because of what they look like.” No, there’d be some awareness that yes, some guys don’t have jobs, and while there are sometimes indicators of that, they’re not universal - “wears a 3-piece suit” is not a guarantee of having a job, and “wears ratty t-shirts and jeans that haven’t been washed in three weeks” does not mean he’s poor. Those might be the base assumptions when you see them, but you’re aware that those are just guesses.
Not every guy is a rapist. Most guys are not rapists. But - here’s the key part - we can’t tell who those are. There are no external identifiers we can use to say, “this one is a rapist; stay away from him.”
Cost for being cautious and refusing to be alone with a non-rapist, non-creep, honestly interested-in-you nice guy: You might be a bit lonely on a Saturday night.
Cost for failure to be cautious: You get raped or worse.
Statistics say the odds of Random Dude being a rapist are between 6% and 15%, depending on which surveys you think are more accurate.
Would you roll those dice? Eh; sometimes. But it’s not “abusive to men” to point out that those are the odds - that as many as 1 in 7, or as few as 1 in 15, of the guys around them ARE RAPISTS. And most of them are serial rapists - they find a method that works, and stick with it.
Most of them, of course, are not hiding in bushes with a club to grab women and beat them over the head. Most aren’t even slipping powder into strangers’ drinks at a bar. They’re going to parties, and looking for the girl who’s gotten wobbly, and pulling her into a spare bedroom even if she says “I don’ wanna,” but she’s too uncoordinated to get away. They’re telling their girlfriend “I just can’t help myself: I love you too much” after she says no. They’re telling themselves that their date is a slut, look at how much cleavage she’s showing, and they paid for dinner and the movie and they deserve something in return.
Dude, if you can tell us a 100% reliable way to spot these creeps, AND a way to refuse contact with them without getting physically attacked, socially ostracized, or losing our jobs, WE’D BE SO HAPPY to drop the “all men are potentially…” warnings we give to each other.
Ways to Love Yourself 1. Know yourself You cannot love someone you don’t even know. 2. Accept that you have strengths and weaknesses. You have skills and problems. Do a SWOT Analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) of yourself if you want but remember, opportunities and threats are external. You don’t have control over them. But you can use your strengths and improve on your weaknesses, both of which are internal, to handle the external. 3. Disliking certain things about yourself is normal. That gives room for improvement. Improve. Don’t be lazy and choose the path of self loathing. 4. Forgive yourself Understand that making mistakes is the way to grow. If you hadn’t fallen on your bum a couple hundred times you would have never learned to walk. If as a baby after one fall, after one mistake of breaking something, you would have decided to just sit in the corner and never try again, you would still be sitting there with the broken pieces. Don’t do that. Learn from your toddler self. Get up. And the only way you can do that is by forgiving yourself. 5. Accept that as of now you do not love yourself. Lying to yourself won’t eventually lead you to believe it as the truth. Lying to someone you love is not a way to love them. 6. Disregard what others say about you. So much of the good and bad they tell you really has more to do with themselves; their mindset and mood, their motives and interest. Don’t let people fill in blanks for you. That won’t lead to a happy ending, it won’t lead to a story you can call your own. 7. Be patient with yourself, be kind. Being hard on yourself is a really stupid thing to do. It isn’t productive, it isn’t one bit effective and it is completely unnecessary. 8. Discard the idea that you are breakable. Reject the concept that someone can leave you broken. They can hurt you, yes and they can cause you an immense amount of pain but they cannot break you. You aren’t made of glass. Give your cells a little more credit. Give your heart a little more of it too. 9. When you realize that the grass is greener on the other side, don’t draw up plans to ruin that grass or come up with a way where you can camp on it and abandon your own grass. Instead, take a trip to the shop to buy some fertilizer and tend to your own grass. Upskill yourself constantly. 10. Learn new things. Invest time and energy in things that interest you.You didn’t learn to play piano in school but always wished to? Who said there is an age limit. In most cases the saying, ‘it is never too late’ stands absolutely true. 11. Look yourself in the mirror. You can admire or just observe. Look into your eyes. Look at your reflection. Just look. Have a see in what’s inside. Don’t look away. Have the courage to see the truth. 12. Spend time with yourself. Buy yourself flowers if flowers are what you love. Don’t wait to meet the right person to do the things you always wanted to. Go star gazing, skinny dipping. Solo travel. Do whatever you want to and can. Write your future/past self a letter. Cook yourself a meal. Buy yourself some ice cream. Click goofy selfies. 13. Learn to accept compliments. Be graceful. All you have to do is say ‘thank you’. And please don’t feel the immediate need of returning the compliment. You don’t always have to give when you get. Especially when you don’t really have anything to give. A ‘thank you’ and a smile are more than enough. 14. Learn to be okay in silence. The voices in your head? They terrorize you, I know. But trust me, they go away. They go away if you face them. There are no demons in your head. These are just echoes of your fears and insecurities. Listen to them. Breathe deep. Know that they are weak. Face them head on. And then ask them to leave. 15. Accept your body. However it is or it isn’t. It has accepted you in every possible way. Accept it and see how it accepts you even more. Accepting doesn’t mean not changing something that you can in a healthy way. It only means that your love is unconditional. Your love is whole. And that is the only way to love yourself. Wholly.

Yall do know that if you only hit someone up to talk about how sad you are & not much else, youre training that person to get sad whenever they see ur name in their notifications, right?
Its cool to have someone ya vent to, but the people you vent to are people too yanno? Hold a conversation with them. Remind them that theyre actually friends & not a bucket out only approach to dump your woes into. Things like that weigh on people.

This might come as a shock to some of you but saying “I’m not informed enough on this particular topic to have an opinion” is about 100 times more respectable than being misinformed
job interview: we need HAPPY, MOTIVATED people!!

the stereotype that women talk more than men is infinitely amusing to me because men are literally incapable of shutting the fuck up
i hope this post gets popular enough that i hurt a man’s feelings
It’s not a stereotype it’s a proven fact you femanazi piece of shit.
lmao there it is
You wanna talk proven facts? This shit’s been done, son: researcher Dale Spencer in Australia used audio and video tape to independently evaluate who talked the most in mixed-gender university classroom discussions. Regardless of the gender ratio of the students, whether the instructor was deliberately trying to encourage female participation or not, men always talked more—whether the metric was minutes of talking or number of words spoken.
Moreover, men literally have no clue how much they talk. When Spencer asked students to evaluate their perception of who talked more in a given discussion, women were pretty accurate; but men perceived the discussion as being “equal” when women talked only 15% of the time, and the discussion as being dominated by women if they talked only 30% of the time.
Spencer’s conclusion, if I may parahprase: you only think we talk too much because you’d rather we were silent.
Don’t fuck with me, asshole, I’m a scientist.
Men talk too goddamn much. Scientific fact
As an introvert, the best thing is finding someone who it isn’t draining to spend time with
It’s interesting trying to explain to people who don’t experience social exhaustion that there are some people who are less draining than others and then their are those who are mind numbingly exhausting. All socializing is not equal
