Thereâs just something about The Book Nook that makes time feel like itâs slowing down, you know? Itâs the soft creak of the old wooden floors, the cozy smell of well-loved pages mixed with the scent of those cinnamon lattes from the cafĂŠ next doorâitâs like comfort wrapped up in a book. Honestly, Sienna found herself there way more often than she probably shouldâve admitted. Sheâd settle into her usual armchair by the window, a half-read mystery resting in her lap, and a drink that was more decoration than anything else, just hanging out beside her.
So, there she was, reaching for a new title on the âStaff Picksâ shelf, when something caught her eye. A little flicker of movement nearby. Someone was standing just a few feet away, their fingers gently brushing the spine of a book. Sienna couldnât help but smile. âThat oneâs been on my list forever,â she said, gesturing toward the book they were holding. âI keep picking it up, then convincing myself not to go for it.â

finding time to exercise with her schedule is difficult, but sometimes she can time a morning run in the park just perfectly post-shift. it makes it even easier to sleep after a long night of hard work. and as bria finishes her run, she spots a familiar face, waving as she pants and walks closer, gesturing to the space on the bench beside them, "mind if i sit?" she sits anyway before they have a chance to fully respond, "i always think it'll be nicer to run outside than run on the treadmill, but then i start running and i remember humidity," she shakes her head, a soft chuckle passing her lips, "i never learn." she glances over at the other, "anyway, what brings you out here in this heat?"
Finding time for a run can be a real challenge with Sienna's jam-packed scheduleâgraduate school, looming research deadlines, and all those little tasks that just seem to multiply. But you know, if she played her cards right, a morning jog through the park after a late shift felt like a win. The cool breeze and the soft chirping of the early birds? That combo was enough to lift some of the exhaustion off her shoulders. Those runs were her little escape, helping to calm her racing thoughts and making it easier to crash into bed after a long night of work.
Sienna shifted on the bench, wiping the sweat from her forehead with her hand. She couldn't help but chuckle at Bria, who somehow still looked fresh and put-together despite the sticky humidity. Glancing around at the trees swaying gently and the birds starting their morning songs, she said, âYeah, this humidity is no joke, but thereâs something about being out here while the world wakes up that makes it all worth it.â She turned back to Bria, grinning. âWhat are your plans after this? Want to grab some breakfast?" She glanced down at the watch on her wrist.
Sienna hadnât really planned on sticking around for the show. She just kind of wandered into The Mermaid Lounge on a whim, drawn in by the soft, siren-like hum of those old sea shanties and the thought of a nice drink after a long, tiring day. But then the lights dimmed, and wow, when that spotlight hit those sequined tails and the foam waves, she was totally hooked. The whole performance was this wild mix of absurdity and enchantment, like something straight out of a fever dream crafted by Poseidon himself. Honestly, it felt like stepping into a time machine that had no clue what decade it was trying to channelâso much nautical kitsch, and in the best way possible.
So there she was, nursing the last sips of her drink when a flash of glitter and a hint of saltwater perfume drifted by. She couldnât help but grin back at the woman who passed her. âIf I say no, will a sea witch come after me?â she joked. âBecause I totally did. It was wild, honestly. Not how I expected to wrap up my night, but⌠Iâm definitely not complaining.â
Then Corinne leaned in and whispered something, and Sienna just raised an eyebrow, amused. âDo you say that to every girl, or am I actually special tonight?â The moment those words slipped out, she felt a heat creeping up her neck. Wow, that was bold. Maybe a little too bold? She blinked down at her almost-empty glass, suddenly aware of the warmth flushing her cheeks and the unexpected confidence in her voice. The drink was really doing its job. Usually, she was a bit more reserved, a bit more careful.
Sienna wasnât exactly a fan of crowds, but tonight? Well, she decided it was time for a little break from all that reading and writing. The arcade was a cacophony of noise, total chaos, and packed with folks who were trying way too hard to look competitive. It was oddly comforting, though. She found herself leaning against a pinball machine, arms crossed, just watching this guy a few feet away. He was hammering the buttons on the game like his life depended on it, honestly. And that grin on his face? It was ridiculously proud, like heâd just cracked some secret code to awesomeness. When he finally slammed his fist down and let out a shout, she couldnât help but raise an eyebrow. âSo, whatâs the goal here? You going for middle school funny, or is it more of a prison record funny?â

Marley's been in a lot of embarrassing situations, a worrying amount, actually, so surely, she should be used to this feeling by now. That familiar warmth creeping up her body, cheeks rosy and tips of her ears burning. She'd been so caught up in her ramble, she hadn't noticed the friend she'd been trying to make had already wandered of. Could she really call them a 'friend'? Looking back, they'd even seemed reluctant to give her their name.
"I'm so sorry, I was talking to someone else and," she pauses, laughs pitifully into a shrug, "I guess I bored them enough that they left without me even realising. So I guess that's how my night is going, tell me yours is better?"
Sienna leaned against the wall, one eyebrow cocked, taking in the scene with a hint of amusement. Honestly, she wasnât really feeling the whole social butterfly vibeâtoo many folks milling around. But there was this girl at a nearby table who caught her eye. Poor thing was flustered, stumbling over her words, really trying to make a connection. It was almost impressive, the way people seemed to vanish on her, like she was some kind of social magician, but without the tricks.
Sienna couldnât help but grin and shake her head. âBetter? Oh, letâs just say Iâm definitely in the running for âmost entertaining wallflowerâ award. I mean, itâs kind of hanging out in that awkward zone of âpretty mehâ and âcould be worse.â But hey, if someone just up and leaves without a goodbye, it probably just means youâre way too cool for them, right?â

About Sienna
Sienna Morell is a calm force in chaotic spaces â observant, analytical, and emotionally steady. Raised in a high-pressure household by her perfectionist, no-nonsense mother, Bria, Sienna learned early how to listen before speaking and how to think twice before reacting.
While everyone expected her to follow her motherâs path into medicine, Sienna pivoted toward criminal justice work, drawn more to systems and stories than stethoscopes. Sheâs currently earning her masterâs in Criminology & Social Justice, with a focus on restorative justice, incarceration reform, and youth diversion programs.
As a research intern at a nonprofit working with formerly incarcerated women and teens, she spends her days buried in case studies, prison policy, and trauma-informed interviews â and her nights journaling, researching, and trying to remember to call her mom back.
Personality
Sienna is the kind of person who rarely raises her voice â not because she doesnât feel things deeply, but because sheâs mastered the art of stillness. Sheâs introverted, sharp, and emotionally aware. She's often the youngest person in the room but carries herself with quiet authority.
She has a strong moral compass, but sheâs not naive. She knows systems are broken, and she's more interested in understanding them â and helping people within them â than judging from the outside.
Sheâs small. Short. Petite. Vertically challenged. She tells everyone what to do, and expects them to obey. Threats ensue if people donât. Sometimes even physical violence. Making large men the target of her orders just adds to the fun.
