Peeked a gander at r/fakedisordercringe. Found a goldmine to rant about…
Someone posted that they’ve only met one person who “really” had DID. This person “clearly had multiple personalities” but denied it constantly. This person ended up “predictably” killing people. The poster said they’ve never met a “real” system after that, because no one fits those criteria (denial and homicide??) Then they asked Reddit’s opinion on what counts as a “real system.” The criteria were generally as follows:
Constant denial of having DID
Trauma, but not too big (a cult) or too small (parental neglect) BUT you cannot talk about your trauma
Cannot use words like “alter” “fictive” “system” basically any word to describe what’s going on
You can only talk about how disorienting and painful DID is
Okay so. Holding your hand when I tell you this… THAT’S BULLSHIT.
Most systems DO experience denial! Whether they’re CDD or not! Yet you still fakeclaim them for “imposter syndrome” “lying” “roleplaying” and it’s so frustrating!
YOU, some stranger on the internet, can NOT dictate how much trauma is enough for a CDD. Anything could cause it. And even if the system is nondisordered, you’re a Redditor, not a doctor!
Sorry for using words to describe the disorienting pain. Sorry for using helpful terminology. Sorry for trying to understand the complexities of the brain. Because how is anyone supposed to talk about their pain if any word that describes it gets them flagged as a faker, and most of the time the pain isn’t “right” anyways?
Can we also talk about the homicide bit. You’re literally pushing some horror movie stereotype onto systems. Even if a system does suffer homicidal ideations, this isn’t Split! We don’t go around killing people then crying that the “evil alter” did it, because most of us practice system accountability and can control any urges we get! And the fact this person was not at all surprised their friend killed someone shows a lot. First, that they’re a terrible friend. Second, that they believe CDDs are evil-kill-all-your-loved-ones-disorders.
Fake claiming is disgusting, and I hope these Redditors (and anyone who thinks like that) can get better.
