i would rather 100 people faking a disability/disorder get the support theyre asking for, than 100 disabled/disordered people get hurt or die because theyre accused of faking and cant get the support they need
i think something a lot of people don't really account for in conversations about "fakers" is that they're "faking" the disability for a reason. it's not like people will just say they have a disability for no reason, the people who are "faking" a disability have needs that are met by resources that are provided to disabled people. and if you have needs that are met in a similar way to disabled people then you're probably just disabled or at least there isn't really a meaningful difference between the "fakers" and the people who are diagnosed. and yes that goes for attention seeking behavior as well. if people are seeking attention that means they need attention. these aren't rabid animals that act completely irrationally they're sapient beings like yourself. have some fucking sympathy and compassion for others.
i feel like the problem here is not that people are "faking" disorders but that people are denied access to resources that they need based on wether or not they're able to obtain a diagnosis. and typically (and especially for mental disorders) diagnosis is based not on how a disorder affects the person but how it affects other people around them. it's only considered a problem when Other People are annoyed by them. not to mention how diagnosis costs a fuck ton of money so if you're poor you're just not gonna get the support you need.
once again the problem is the modern medical system and not the people trying to get help through it.
