If I had a nickel for every time the short story The Lady, or the Tiger? was referenced in a thematically relevant manner in one of my favorite books I’d have two nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that happened twice

Haven't read a vampire stuff for quite a long time. And I must say I liked the coldest girl in coldtown much more than most of the books in that genre, certainly more than I would think.
Mayby it's because of the mix of many things : a little of post-apocalyptic, distopian, alternative world, adventure with tiny bit of romance, with some bits of kinda exotic russian-french flavour of end of XIX - beginning of XX centuries, and social media celebrities obsession, and death/immortality romanticizing consequences...and more
Holly Black is so good at writing a first love interest who is an absolute jackass followed by a second love interest who is a jackass BUT also perfectly matches the main characters freak

I recently finished The Coldest Girl In Coldtown and it just made me love Holly Black even more. I love how all her female main characters in every book she writes are so independent and fix their own problems without waiting on the big shadow daddy to help them out. The love interests never overshadow the protagonists and only compliment them in the best ways.
Thinking about when Holly Black let her protagonist kill a man with a screwdriver and drink his blood. And when the love interest showed up he made a joke about being such a bad host that she had to fetch her own dinner.
And then the antagonist got SO OFFENDED that the love interest would kill someone and frame the protagonist. Look at her, she's clearly harmless.
It was hilarious.
this may be controversial but it has been stewing in my brain for literal years, but required cannibalism (cant survive without eating flesh of the self) is much more interesting as a disability metaphor than a sexuality metaphor
