Isn’t the science of art fascinating? I soaked my nails in vinegar and peroxide for an additional night in order to rust them further. Look at that color the chemical reaction that occurred 😲 Now I seal the nails in a jar of vinegar and water and wait a week😬 Then Voila! An iron mordant for use with my dying projects. Yesterday I made my first venture with plant dying! I didn’t realize how much chemistry is involved- As it turns out, adding a mordant such as iron to the dye bath results in more intense, rich color. What you see here is a beautiful pale yellow resulting from soaking a face mask in a mint-only dye bath overnight. I’ve started rusting some nails for next time so that I can make an iron liquor for the next batch. Can’t wait to see the difference in colors! What colors make you happiest?
