I’ve followed Chip's bookstagram for years, but this is the first book of his I've read. I always thought he was a good writer and found his voice charming, and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. It’s a total page-turner! There are a lot of twists & turns, and I won't spoil anything here, but I really loved this!

This is for fans of paranormal, grumpy/sunshine, small town romances. The MCs could not be more different, yet fit together so naturally. Hayden (aka Hades the Funeral Guy), and Levi (a ginger florist and gardener) are a picture in contrasts:  Dark and Light. Gloomy and Bright. Death and Life. Black and Colorful. And as a metaphor they are cleverly written. Chip is very funny and there is incredible friend group banter (I love Dominic!). There are flirtatious shadows. There is a riot of flowers. There are some spicey scenes which were fantastic.

Mainly this story is a meditation on grief and loss and the different ways we deal with it. Avoidance. Denial. Depression. Not enjoying what you have and where you are. And it’s also about finding your person and being found. Surrounding yourself with your ride or die friends. It’s both heavy and hopeful and a wonderful foray into the Romantasy genre.

An extremely funny book that had me giggling the whole time, with a cute dog named Spud and a foster kid that creates real-life (and hilarious) challenges for Luc & Olivers' long-term partnership. It's emotional and lovely and they actually talk stuff out and it's so relatable and wonderful to see. Overall I loved it and thought it was a fantastic ending for Luc & Oliver. 🖤

Luc starts off super neurotic in this one. Sometimes funny, sometimes insufferable, but it's fun watching him get his sh*t together and become wiser. Oliver is as Oliver as ever, which is The Best. It was great to check in with all the friends and I especially loved the CRAPPstonbury storyline (yes that is an actual thing!) which shows Luc at his finest.

I don't want to spoil anything major, but a lot happens! This book is inspired by ABOUT A BOY, the 90s Richard Curtis / Hugh Grant movie, and if you've seen that you'll recognize the fostering storyline and wisecracking kid. A hallmark of Alexis Hall books is a Disaster Dinner Party® at about 80% and this one felt very earned. Luc is a panic, but also gets it. Oliver is stern, but also a force for good. There's an older character who is a posh git and foil for Luc. And the euphemisms throughout the book are so so funny.

I mainly listened to the audiobook since there's nothing more soothing than Joe Jameson's incredible voice reading a Luc & Oliver story to you. Not only does he have dialect, class and gender range, he can also do any age which really shows up in this performance. He is an incredible talent and I highly recommend listening to this series. He honestly deserves to win an Oscar.

In Heated Rivalry S2 I really want to see the scene were Ilya takes a selfie video at the Cottage announcing them getting married. It's spontaneous and SO CUTE.

I love tennis. I love romance. I loved this book. Why is there so little romance set in the tennis world? There's no shortage of hockey and baseball! I feel like Tennis has been an underrated sports romance subgenre, yet I know of 3 M|M tennis romances releasing this year alone and I could not be happier.

There's not a lot of details from the actual matches in the book, it's more about what happens before, after and in between on the ATP tour, and covers a full season with all 4 grand slams. I always visualize the MCs while reading and I couldn’t help but picture IRL tennis stars Lorenzo Musetti as Matteo Russo and Jack Draper as Miles Callahan (google them if you don't know who they are!) They aren't from the same countries as Mat & Miles, but they're both gorgeous and great players and fit their descriptions IMO. Of course in this story they are gay and fall in love. It's rivals-to-lovers, forced proximity-ish, plus a comeback and coming out story.

I fell in love with KJC's writing when I first read her Society of Gentlemen series and the Will Darling Adventures. And to be perfectly honest, I haven't been as into her last few books as much as those. But this one feels like a return to that style in some ways and I really liked it.

This book had so many things I love; an artisan who makes paints (watercolors and oils) with detailed descriptions of how the pigments are made (heaven). His expertise in art and painting and colors was by far my favorite part. I wouldn't say this is Fake Dating, as it was illegal to be gay during the 1820s, but Nico comes to stay with Titus who has suddenly inherited a large sum of money and teaches him how to dress and be a member of high society and they go to a few soirées and salons together. It reminded me a bit of KJC's A FASHIONABLE INDULGENCE with the makeover by a fashionista who takes the MC shopping, however unlike that book this one doesn't have nearly as much heat in it and I wish there were a bit more.

The overall premise is absurd, but also funny. There are several awful men in it from Titus's entitled older brother to a loan shark to an art collector and everyone wants a piece of his 8,000 pounds a year. The Comte de Valois de La Motte, or Nico, claims to be the son of Jeanne de Valois who was part of THE AFFAIR OF THE NECKLACE scandal (which was portrayed in the fabulous Hilary Swank movie of the same name) and owns a painting of Marie Antoinette wearing the necklace that he's trying to sell to pay off his debts. It's a classic twisty KJC storyline and if you're a fan of KJC's historical romance you will like this one, too.
