1. Aside from having 21st as your core subject, why do you think it is important to study literature?

For me, I think it is important to study literature to expand our knowledge not to have a higher grade but to understand the ongoing issues that we have in our economy. Also I think that literature is a good example on putting our feet in someone’s shoes, to get a grasp on what the author is saying is an extraordinary feeling for me.

2. "Literature teaches us to be emphatetic and human" what does this line means? Explain your answer.

I still remember the day I experienced this heart-breaking moment, it was when the world shut down. I’m a lively person, even though I live far away from my friends, I always find a way to see them, but this time, I can’t do anything. It was fine until I can’t laugh anymore looking at my cell phone looking at memes shared by my friends on Facebook. That day, I knew that there’s something wrong with me. I didn’t know what to do, I can’t tease anyone, I can’t shout at anyone. I can’t make anyone laugh, I don’t know what’s consuming me.

i went on a hiatus from anything, I didn’t talk to anyone. Starting that day, I became a robot, I woke up, ate, and slept. All the days are blurry, it feels like I just wake up to sleep again. It continued to the point that I’ve become addicted to this feeling of being alone, I didn’t know that there’s a lot of things I can do by myself. I cut off ties with lots of people, I know that I hurt their feelings but it just feels amazing. 

In life there’s this thing called feelings. These feelings can sometime make us feel alive and most of the time, can make us damage our body and mind. You can make someone feel it using this or you can simply just say it, but whatever we say, there’s a blessing or consequence waiting at the end of the road depending on how we are gonna let this feelings out. There are people who are brave enough to say it and the rest? They’re hopeless. I’m one of them. 

This essay is like the stories you read on wattpad, the story in this selection is not that unique from any other love stories, but the difference is that this is a real story and as the ending of it, we know that some stories are not meant for you. This piece is very different from the other one but there’s a slight hint of it being the same, the feeling of being heartbroken for the first time and the feeling of losing someone you love, it’s a very similar feeling. This somehow made me relate to it, although my story and her story is very different from each other, as the author stated, I also felt a slight pinch in my heart the very first time I got heartbroken. I had a great time reading this, mostly because of the last paragraph. That one thing called pain will let us realize the most important thing that we need to know, we are still young to fall in love. The last lines made me laugh because it’s relatable in my case, “I’m too tired to care for them, I’ll just walk past them.” That’s what I got from the author and it’s very similar to me. 

Reading this did not make me feel the pain of losing someone, maybe because I still have both of my parents with me, but rather the love for the deceased mother. But one thing that stuck with me is that while reading this, it’s a very different feeling from the other essay, it made my voice deep and I can’t seem to make myself change it. Maybe because I already know that it is a sad essay, I don’t know. 

Love is the double edged sword of life, it can make you feel like you have everything in the whole world or it can make you feel like you want to die in that very moment. Love can make you wake up in the morning or it can make you want to sleep forever; love can make you smile all day and it can make you keep your head down until you sleep. What I’m saying is that love is a very powerful emotion in this world, it’s not an exaggeration if I say that some people revolve their life around love, and it’s not a bad thing nor a good thing. Love comes from anywhere, it can make you fall in love with just a snap of a finger and you’ll look anywhere just to find that person who’s making you feel like you have butterflies in your stomach.
