Just biking some errands with my girl, NBD. Wait, who am I kidding?! TOTALLY BFD! One of the learnings that really stuck with me from my @addcoachacademy training was the idea that ADHD is a struggle with motivation and momentum. What helps me get those fires lit is distilling whatever goal I have down to the smallest achievable step. 3-4 years ago, I found @mrmoneymustache and set out a long term goal of getting most errands within 3 miles accomplished on bike. We've been a 1 car family for four years, and every time I pack up the Impreza for a road trip for five I daydream about having a minivan, but I love the financial freedom of one tiny little car. The biking side of this equation has met with many tiny hurdles (flat tires, no garage clicker, I'm not fit, yadda yadda) that, to my ADHD brain, feel like walls. Recently, a friend figured out how to inflate the trailer tires for me, and I had an urge to bike Dylan to our neighborhood park, which is less than 1/2 a mile from home. We went slow to stay with friends who were walking, but that brief slow bike lit a fire. I biked with her, than Cody, a few more times, short, 5 minute trips. Then Cody and I biked/scootered to/from the park to play Pokรฉmon Go. Then we ventured further, and did a 2 mile loop. Today I packed up my @thredup bag, Dylan and preschool welcome letters and we headed out for the post office. It wasn't far, about 4 mi round trip. But it was hot, and the hills felt like mountains as I pulled 40-45 extra pounds behind me. I had to walk for a bit. Dylan insisted she walk for a bit. I got home and collapsed in a sweaty mess on the couch. But I did it. And I'll do it again. All it took was a few teeny tiny rides to get going. Every time it works, it feels like magic, like I've unlocked my brain, and friends, that feeling is pretty amazing. #100happydays #day52 #adhd #adhdcoaching #lifecoaching
