My problem with modern trek is that all of it has the same strange vibe as watching a 2010s teen anti smoking ad/PSA. Its so clinical? Its so.... "team work saves the day!" "And then everyone clapped".
Girl be for real. Wheres the subtext camp homosexuals? Where are the HEINOUS costumes that look like a cat vomited on someones pajamas? Wheres the Shakespeare? Where is the cozy, lived in casual living room vibe? Its all so polished and militaristic in both set and costume design. Theres no filler!!! Theres no goofy filler episodes. Its all action and plot, theres ZERO fun in this shit anymore.
Saru in discovery was meant to have a fucking pet but they cut it for time. All the truly great character moments are lost in favour of tidy 8 episode seasons that rely on plot only content because caring about the people on the bridge is a tertiary concern. You'll never get "datas day" style shit again. I like the messages mostly in modern trek, i like some of the plots and whatever!! But christ. No one goes to Risa anymore for a goofy beach episode >:( fuck it all
