why does my caladium act like she is starving for light. hang on
every day i ahve to reposition the damn lamp cuz she’s dead set on sticking her first leaf Right The Fuck In There and i don’t want her to burn. but every day i come home from work and she has closed the distance anyway. bestie PLEASE cooperate with me
i finally caved and moved her to the windowsill but this has clearly not satisfied her because she still presses that leaf RIGHT up against the glass
apparently instead of actually growing new leaves in order to increase her light intake she’s decided that these are PERFECT conditions to flower in
BABYGIRL YOU HAVE ONE LEAF PLEASE
one cool thing about having an autistic dad whose special interest is underwater spearfishing is that when he catches fish he'll just call up a nearby chinese restaurant like "hi. i caught a fish. can you cook it and i'll bring my family by?" and they're like "yeah sure come on over white boy" and the fish is delicious.
it's worth adding that my mom is chinese and she always gets embarrassed by this. like she doesn't want to come to the restaurant with us. she doesn't want to be seen with the white man she caught plus the fish that her white man caught. everyone who works at the restaurant thinks my dad is awesome and compliments him + her for choosing him and we all find this very fun except for her.
why haven’t I seen anyone posting about that giant fucking baby penguin in Melbourne that’s bigger than some of the adults already
his name is Pesto <3
this bastard weighs 46 lbs at 9 months old. he’s 22 lbs heavier than his PARENTS
OMG I SAW THIS LAD IN PERSON AND LOST EVERY OUNCE OF SHIT I’VE EVER POSSESSED
Look at him!
Also he was separated with one of his parents when I saw him but obviously wanted to Be Where The People Penguins Are so they’d set him up with a little rock stool so he could gaze upon his brethren:
Which enabled me to capture the single funniest video I’ve ever taken of anything in my life:
All hail Pesto! The king of chonk!
He's adventurous, cheeky, sings to the caretakers who clean his enclosure and has been seen CANOODLING with a penguin named Pudding.
And fucking handsome too—look at him striking a pose with his new look!

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
Y'all omg, look at him in his awkward teen phase

good art doesnt exist. you can't make it.
you're free now.
Also I am asking all of you, once again, to learn about ecosystem conservation and restoration instead of wallowing in "we are already past the point of no return" or that it will take "millennia" to restore ecosystems.
You have to understand that nature does not work in the same timeframe as ours. Protecting and restoring ecosystems is RIDICULOUSLY inexpensive and requires very little industrial technology; shovels and saplings are not exactly high-tech. But it takes time and long-term projects with people determined to do it. Maybe we are too focused in our "we want it now" thinking, but what you see today is not what you may see in 10, 20, 50, even 80 years if you live that long.
But it works. It's working right now, and when capitalism is replaced by socialism and we stop thinking on short-term gain, when our societies are focused into the common welfare instead of accumulation, it will even work better. Again I could point out to individual examples but instead, I encourage you to learn about ecology. We are well past from the catastrophic "Earth will die and there's nothing we can do" predictions from the 80s. We know what to do, we know it can work.
A new study published online today, April 25, in the scientific journal Science provides the strongest evidence to date that not only is nat
This article talks about this very much in the "see? ecology can help the economy too!" tone that unfortunately is sort of necessary to convince people in the current capitalist system. But I don't want you to focus on this right now.
I want you to KNOW how doable this is. How inexpensive this is, how POSSIBLE THIS IS. That people working and loving the land and nature they live in is possible. That these projects WORK, THEY DO restore and preserve ecosystems. That humanity is neither a plague that destroys everything or a passive bystander on its own destruction but that these are actual things that can be, are, and will be implemented, backed by actual science and results. This is not empty #hopecore #hopepunk feel good stuff, these are things you can learn about, even work towards, and you can most certainly demand they are part of our society.
Are you listening to me?
"I'm just losing hope." Then get some fucking conviction. Millions of people around the globe are working their asses off and seeing results. What they are doing IS WORKING.
This orange peel story was huge years ago: https://www.scientificamerican.com/podcast/episode/a-fruitful-experiment-in-land-conservation/
Beavers reintroduced to historic wetlands improve them at such a level that we can see the improvements from space: https://news.mongabay.com/2023/09/nasa-satellites-reveal-restoration-power-of-beavers/
Africa is successfully slowing desertification and restoring historic farming soil with their Green Wall project: https://welcomeafrica.org/en/africa-combats-desertification-with-a-belt-of-life/
There has even been success at regrowing coral reefs--something which I am old enough to be told was impossible. But people have been hard at work for decades since then, and this is one of the results: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2024/03/240308123248.htm
REPAIRING THE DAMAGE IS ENTIRELY WITHIN THE REALM OF POSSIBILITY.
THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE IF YOU HAVE THE CONVICTION TO BACK IT UP.

Contrary to popular belief the biggest beginner's roadblock to art isn't even technical skill it's frustration tolerance, especially in the age of social media. It hurts and the frustration is endless but you must build the frustration tolerance equivalent to a roach's capacity to survive a nuclear explosion. That's how you build on the technical skill. Throw that "won't even start because I'm afraid it won't be perfect" shit out the window. Just do it. Just start. Good luck.
I'm getting jumped in the notes here with "easier said than done" and that's true, so I am by NO MEANS a professional with professional-level art off the top of my head here's some tangible things to help with your frustration tolerance.
It never goes away. Like. Literally ever. "It's so hard and I keep stumbling over it" yeah. Never goes away. For anyone. Keep that in mind.
While you do have to train your eye to get better at drawing, which means you have to look at good art, you also have to stop only looking at artwork made by professionals or people who've been doing it longer than you. Jealous of another 21-year-old whose art is better than you? Block or mute. Lol. It doesn't matter who cares. Jealousy is ugly and you should work on that but feelings like that don't just go away and so if it's not hurting anyone just get that out of your sight. Unblock/mute when you're in a better headspace.
If you can't keep your drawings to yourself then have a dedicated set of artist friends to complain with or hold each other accountable. Preferably people of your same skill level. And no I don't mean a huge discord server full of randos, like, your actual friends, chances are you're only going to get your feelings hurt if in you're some huge buttfuck discord server where people are busy doing god knows what and they either ignore your posts or just leave reacts.
What actually helps ease this is by practicing in bulk. Everyone tells you art is like a muscle and you have to train it constantly, with rest, but constantly. And what this means realistically is you're more likely to learn by drawing something repetitively. Say you're struggling to draw a profile. Don't waste hours getting one drawing of a profile right. If it sucks just start over again. Repeat. Literally the fastest and most efficient way with almost every drawing roadblock is just start over again. The time will pass anyways etc etc.
Confidence is won through effort! Confidence is not so much a feeling as it is the cumulative result of the work you put in. (I read this on reddit one time and never forgot it.)
6. This is a really tough one but you'll have to substitute motivation for discipline.
7. I mean. You don't have to be good at art man. It's fine. You do have to weigh in how much you actually want to get to a certain skill level and weigh it against the amount of effort you're willing to put in. If you're fine where you are that's fine!!! It's fine!!!

Learned recently the Artemis II mission is carrying a 1in. x 1in. piece of the canvas used in the Wright brother’s Flyer, oohhh man. I love technology but I also adore beyond everything the sentiment for the past we attach to advancements, because a lot of people think there’s no need to remember the time we could barely figure out plane flight while blasting off to go briefly orbit the moon.
There’s sometimes a mindset of science purely for advancement, the next big thing, which feels both distinctly human and un-human (inhuman? Uhhhh) It’s our nature to go as far as we can, build until we hit something that can actually stop us. Learn and see it all. But we’re also the people that saw shapes in the stars; we have to give it all meaning. Artemis II is only one part of a much larger plan, but by itself it’s still an incredible feat. Every step of the way has meaning to the world, and taking a single square inch of fabric to make us look back is a really nice reminder of all of it.
The Monster of Mt. Roneal
The Artemis II images are making me emotional for a lot of reasons but one of them is:
The Taoyuan Walker
taiwan is cool as fuck theyve got Free Playing here at the public park
how is there absolutely not a single sign of active human life in either of those pictures ?
as a photographer, it is important that i respect the anonymity of private citizens when pursuing my passion. to do this, i vaporize all organic life within a 2 block radius before taking a picture.

happy pride
okay so spock (the alien in blue) essentially goes into heat. like literal heat like an animal. Anyway, spock’s in bloodlust in this episode and must go back to vulcan to have sex with his finace (or someone. but its supposed to be his fiance) or he’ll literally die. this is called pon farr and some backstory spock is half human and thought he wouldnt go through pon farr so he abandoned his HOT fiance to fuck around in space except oops pon farr happens so. he and kirk (in yellow getting his tits cut open, he’s also spocks captain and best friend) and their other friend mccoy go to vulcan so he can have sex with his fiance or get married or whatever so he doesn’t die. but then spock’s fiance (t’pring) is like no i dont want to marry spock i want to have him fight someone to death (which she can do) and spock at this point is fully in the ‘blood lust’ and is basically not in his right mind and doesnt get what’s happening. and t’pring picks kirk to be her ‘champion’ in the fight (her logic is that if spock dies in the fight she doesnt have to marry him and if kirk dies, spock will be so upset with her he won’t marry her anymore anyway). anyway kirk doesnt know that its a fight to the death and so he’s like of course i’ll do this fight if it’ll help spock and then he gets told it’s a fight to the death and he goes WHAT and right afterwards spock slices his titties open like in the gif. also eventually spock and kirk roll around in the sand and kirk fakes his death and THIS somehow knocks spock out of his blood lust and he goes back to the ship super sad bc he’s killed his ‘best friend’ only to discover kirk’s alive and we see one of his biggest smiles of the series (a big deal bc spock is vulcan and they dont show emotion). anyway this aired as the season opener in 1967. know your history and all that happy pride
