how do you reckon one writes a character whos nowadays incapable of feeling real genuine emotions beyond obsession? how does a character like that play for you? is it difficult to write her in a way that does not leave her one note or skin deep? love ur raifort take btw!
So this is something really fun for me to do!! Honestly I think I have a habit of writing characters that could be considered "one note" but have more depth than it seems.
My process of writing Raifort comes primarily with the idea of wanting to sound empty. This comes a lot in the form of making her dialogue. She's matter a fact and sometimes comes across as morbid or not "thinking enough" about what she's said. It's something that can be honestly...really hard djrjjrjde because it requires you to reread over dialogue till it kinda sounds right and I'm still getting that voice for Raifort. What's really lucky is that Raifort's one remaining real emotion is obsession...and obsession is one of the strongest most expressive emotions. It can come out in a lot of ways, and plays into her going a bit "too far" at times. She is obsessed with history, with the ruinous treasures, with ruin, with power. If she does not find interest, she will drop it immediately, it doesn't matter to her.
Internal conflict comes in the form of figuring out what she is obsessed over grabbing onto more. Jealousy can be one to give her depth.
The only thing unfortunate about how I write Raifort and her "curse" is that she's...well she's rather old. She's closer to 100 years old, but has been "attached" to the academy since around thirty years old. She is effectively immortal, it only costs every segment of her mind and slowly becoming a mindless ghoul driven by obsession.

Is your Raifort more of a morally grey character with a good heart, or a villain that poses as a better person than they are? Is she entirely apathetic and doesn't care at all who she is and how shes perceived? or does she care, just not in a way we first expect?
I would consider Raifort to be morally grey, leaning on the more darker side of it. She's apathetic and overly curious and is forced into her own obsessions through the "curse" of her family. There's no real malice, as much as it's complete and utter obsession. Other emotions no longer really "exist" in her as they've all been overthrown by the feeling of obssession. Everything else she seems to "feel" is utterly fake, meant to push forward into her wants, her cravings. She's not necessarily a "villain" or "evil", but nothing else matters to her.

--raifort 'lacks' an aura, those that can feel or read auras will notice that...emptiness to her. it's to the point that many have described raifort's eyes as empty, as almost deathly in how they felt like a corpse's. some have excused it as simply being around ghost and dark pokemon too often, but if one were to ask raifort herself, she'd simply shrug and start on about some story or old folk tale she had heard about spirits and ghouls.

This probably would have worked better with a set of characters from sword and shield, but tbh Raifort reminded me of that hot teacher from the Derry girls who took the class by storm and then invited the students over for wine before quitting. Same energy. Passionate but would absolutely drink with her students.
