In the early days of Islam, international trade by land was carried by the caravans across deserts and mountains, which by no means was easy and smooth. The goods carried by the caravans were bound to destruction even before reaching their respective markets. Sandstorms and sickness were most common. Highway robbery and accidents often complicated the journey. These incidences were beyond one’s control. They are risks that caravan trading cannot avoid. Such risk in fiqh muamalat is called ghorm. The legal maxim al grom bil ghonm is directly related to this phenomenon of market or systematic risk.

2-3 minggu lepas, tertinggal payung di LRT Putra Heights. Ralat rasanya, musim hujan kan tempoh hari? Kebetulan harini turun di LRT sama dan bila setibanya kaki menapak hadapan surau, terlihat payung masih berada di tempat yang sama. Kusangka hilang dah payung ini bila ribuan pengguna LRT setiap hari. Paling kurang, dijaga atau dibuang pihak kebersihan sini. Tak, tiada nilai sentimental pun pada payung ini. Cuma terkesima, tanggapan kebiasaan atau tanggapan buruk bercanggah dengan realiti tegaknya payung di tempat sama aku tinggalkan berminggu lalu. Masih disitu. Dengan mudah fikiranku melayang fikikan soal kemanusian yang bersisa, tawakal yang ada, juga pada rezeki yang Tuhan tetapakan biarpun diri ragu ragu, musibah yang menimpa yang terkadang aku persoalkan dan juga ajal yang tiada siapa tahu bila berkunjung tiba.

Dah tak lama, insyaAllah tahun ini pun akan buat lagi program Infaq Ramadhan. “Ya Allah, sesungguhnya kami memohon kepada-Mu pemeliharaan dan keamanan dalam memasuki bulan Ramadan yang akan menjelang tidak lama lagi.”

O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, sacrificing to stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination, of Satan’s handiwork: eschew such (abomination) that ye may prosper Satan’s plan is (but) to excite enmity and hatred between you, with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah, and from prayer: will ye not then abstain?

al-Baqarah (2): 278-279

Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. A man continued to tell the truth will he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood leads to al fujur (i.e., wickedness, evil-doing), and al fujur (wickedness) leads to the (Hell) Fire, and a man may continue to tell lies till he is written before Allah, a liar
