"Enjoying the view?" A guttural voice made you snap back to your senses. "You haven't moved from your spot for the past 20 minutes." Heat rushed to your cheeks.
"Sorry, I'll go," you replied, quickly getting up from the stone steps and slinging your bag over your shoulder.
"Oh no, I didn't mean it like that. Please, stay." He smiled, gesturing for you to sit. You hesitated for a second before stepping closer to him, continuing to watch as he immersed himself back into his work. He dipped his paintbrush into an emerald paint on his palette and streaked the canvas with soft strokes. Every single stroke was laid lovingly, as if gently caressing a child. He continued to layer on color, a sparkling river slowly forming in the painting. A smile creeped onto your face as you watched him capture the sight in front of you perfectly on canvas.
The man frequented this spot beside the river. You usually saw him reading beneath the willow tree when you walked along the riverbank on your way home. Your first impression was that he had remarkably good looks. You never would have guessed that he had such an eye for detail as well.
Today, he wore a loose long-sleeved shirt and black slacks. A grey newsboy cap was perched on his head. His caramel hair was tousled from the wind.
As the sun began to sink, a choir of birds could be heard in the distance. The red leaves of the trees lining the riverbank whistled in the wind. The water gurgled and glistened with gold as if it had been kissed by drops of sunlight. Only at this time did you truly realize how much time had gone by.
When he looked over his shoulder and once again saw you beginning to leave, he gently set a hand on your forearm. "Wait," he said, his eyes looking up at you with earnest. "I was wondering... if you'd like to have dinner with me."
Taken aback, you contemplated whether it was a good idea to share a meal with a complete stranger at night. You couldn't deny that the offer was far more appealing than having instant ramen by yourself, which was what you usually did on weekdays. It was embarrassing to admit, but receiving attention from such an attractive and talented man made your heart flutter and ache with excitement. So with a smile, you agreed, and he packed up his supplies to lead you to where you would have one of the best nights of your life.
You sat across from each other on plush sofas in the restaurant. Steam from your coffee cup curled up in front of you, vanishing as it rose into the air.
The restaurant was inside the art gallery at which he worked as a tour guide. When you entered the grand entrance, you had no doubt that it was one of the finest galleries in Seoul. Sparkling chandeliers were made the centerpiece of the foyer. Vases of exotic flowers decorated the hall. White veins ran through the grey marble floor in elaborate patterns. You had felt incredibly underdressed for a place like this. When you voiced your concern to Hyungwon, he assured you that no one would bother you about it since you were with him.
After an exquisite meal, you continued to have delightful banter over coffee. The two of you clicked as if the final pieces in a puzzle. You found many common interests to bond over and discuss, which was a pleasant surprise. There was never a dull moment as his snarky comments and jokes kept you bursting with laughter throughout the evening. In the midst of all the fun, you hadn't realized that the clock had already struck 10, and the two of you were the only customers left. The sweet aroma of mocha filled the air. Your hands cradled your coffee cup for warmth. As you were debating which type of painting medium was best, a nagging thought that you had been aching to voice spilled out of your mouth.
"Why did you invite me here?"
Hyungwon cocked his head. "Is there something wrong with a man taking a magnificent lady out to dinner?" He jested, causing you to blush. "To be honest," he confessed," it's because I was struck by how you stared at my work in admiration. Most passersby just glance at me or take photos of me. But you, you looked at my art in a way that no one ever has."
Heat rose to your cheeks.
"That's because your art is mesmerizing," you admitted. "You're wickedly talented. I could watch you paint all day." His ears turned red as he smiled and his gaze fell to the floor.
He waved a hand in denial to your statement. "I still have so much to learn."
"Well, you can start by learning to take a compliment." He flashed a shy smile in response. "I truly believe that you'll become a famous artist one day. Have some confidence." You laid a hand atop his, rubbing the back of his hand with your thumb.
"I sure hope so." As if a sudden idea had occurred to him, he stood up from the table swiftly, giving your hand a squeeze.
"Come on, I want to show you something."
After leaving the restaurant, he led you through the foyer into a hall and up two flights of stairs to a white locked door.
"Where are we going?"
"You'll see," he replied, punching in the code on the key pad. It beeped, the red light turned green, and the door unlocked.
It took a few seconds for your eyes to adjust to the darkness. It was a dim room filled with rows of metal racks. The air was filled with scents of linen and wood. You were confused for a while, but then Hyungwon switched on the lights, and it hit you: it was the painting storage room. You covered your mouth with a hand, stifling a gasp. Such a famous gallery would no doubt hold an abundance of artwork from well-known artists worldwide. "Am I allowed in here?"
Hyungwon chuckled. "Don't worry, no one checks the security cameras." He strolled over to a particular rack and sorted through a few paintings before pulling one out. When you saw it, you squealed in delight.
It was a painting by your favorite artist.
"Wild Azalea," you whispered. Your heart pounded in your chest as you remained standing a few feet away from where Hyungwon was holding the painting. You felt that if you stepped closer, the painting would become tainted. "It's wonderful," you said with a shaky breath. "It must be amazing seeing these paintings every day."
"That's the only reason I took this job in the first place. But believe me, it's just as dreary as any regular desk job. Though I suppose it would seem foreign to someone like you." He grinned as you rolled your eyes.
As you stepped closer towards him, he set the painting down, letting you take both of his hands in yours.
"One day, your paintings will be exhibited in a world-class gallery like this one, and you won't have to work at a 'dreary job' anymore." He smiled down at you, and although you had only met a few hours prior, you could see the amount of adoration in his eyes.
"How do you have so much faith in me?" He asked. "We barely just met, you've only seen one painting of mine, and yet you're so determined that I'll become famous."
"I don't need to see any more paintings." You took a step forward, your breath hitching as his nose nearly grazed your forehead. "I believe in you. You have the opportunity, the work ethic and the gifts needed for success. I've never met such a remarkable man like you. That's why," you whispered, your eyes scanning his face, your gaze lingering on his lips. Your heart pounded in your chest. His breathing came out shakily, warming your face with each exhale. His eyelids were hooded, staring at you with fervor.
With one last step, he closed the space between the two of you.
"I'm home!"
You kicked off your shoes at the door and set them beside the growing pile of unfinished paintings. You peered into the living room, anticipating a warm hug, yet you knew by now not to keep your hopes up. You knew his temperament; he despised being interrupted while he was painting. As usual, silence greeted you.
As you shrugged off your coat, a faint buzz notified you to check your phone. A text popped up from your mom:
Your heart sank as you finished reading the message. It was ridiculous for her to expect him to have become successful when it hadn't even been a year since he quit. But, you couldn't deny that she had a point. You sighed as the reality sank in. On top of the rent and bills, the art supplies weren't cheap either. If your mother stopped loaning you money, you weren't sure whether the two of you would be able to survive solely off of your income.
But he works so hard. He works every day for hours on end, and I can't help but feel sorry for him. All that hard work to no avail. It must be because he doesn't have enough exposure. If a famous artist or an investor or something just came across him, he would definitely blow them away and he'd be able to build his fame.
You stepped over stray brushes and dry tubes of paint scattered on the floor, the fumes of oil paints filling the air.
He sat slumped in his stool, staring at the canvas with a frown. His shirt and gym shorts hung off his body loosely. His hair was wild and streaked with reds and blues and greens, probably from running his fingers through his hair in frustration. You noticed lines had formed on his forehead and under his eyes that hadn't been there before. His dark circles accentuated his haggard look.
You set your bag on the kitchen counter and walked over to him. You looked at the painting he was working on and beamed. It was a beautiful landscape of a green meadow.
You smiled, your hand reaching up to run through his hair. "It's beautiful. How long have you been working on this?"
"This morning." When you realized what he was implying, you opened the fridge door to see the untouched sandwich you had left him before you left for work.
"You haven't eaten all day?"
"I can't." he chewed on the end of his brush, not taking his eyes off the painting. "It's not finished yet." You set a hand on his shoulder.
"You're tired. Get some rest first," you said, trying to coerce him into taking a long-needed rest.
"I'm really not. I should finish this by tonight."
"Believe me, your eye bags tell me otherwise."
"I said I'm not tired!"
You flinched, stepping back in instinct. You'd never heard him raise his voice before. He sighed and pressed on his nose bridge. "Y/N..." he looked up, saw your expression, and immediately the anger in his eyes shifted to regret and concern.
"I'm sorry, baby," he said in barely a whisper. He stood up, causing you to step back. His eyes widened and you could see how much he resented himself in that moment. A lump rose to his throat. He held his hand out, and cautiously, you took it. He stared into your eyes, taking care not to startle you again. "I'd never hurt you," he said, his voice quivering. Tears threatened to spill from your eyes, and he pulled you into his embrace, rubbing circles into your back. You wrapped your arms around his torso, tears rolling down your cheeks and landing on his shirt. “I’m sorry,” he repeated over and over again, each word becoming shakier than before.
"Please," you whispered. "Don't overwork yourself." Hearing you say those words broke his heart.
"I won't," he choked out. Hot tears spilled onto your back, and for a few moments, the two of you stood there, holding each other while you released all of the pent up stress and sadness. He stroked your hair, streaking it with paint from his fingers in the process. You caught a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and chuckled, the vibrations sending shivers down his spine. He smiled and wiped away your tears with his thumbs, streaking your cheeks with color.
"I love you," he muttered.
"I love you too."
"I'm so, so sorry,” he said once more. No longer was he the distant, cold painter who only cared for his work. No, in this moment, his mind was on you and only you. You could see it in his eyes; he stared at you with so much concern and fear that he had lost you. If his negligence had caused you to leave him... he couldn't bear the thought of not having you by his side.
"I regret all of it; neglecting you when you want to spend time with me, snapping at you even though you had a long day, not being there for you when you need my support." He paused to sniffle. He stared at you intensely through his red and puffy eyes. "You're my biggest supporter. You take care of me and my health before anything else, even though I haven't made a penny in months and you're the only one keeping us afloat. What did I do to ever deserve you?"
You smiled, intertwining your fingers with his, your foreheads pressed together. "We deserve each other,” you muttered, your voice cracking. “I know you've been stressed ever since you quit. I just don't want you to push yourself over your limits; it'll take a toll on your health. And don't worry about money. It'll all be resolved eventually."
He smiled, pressing his lips to yours.
"I'll never push you away again."
Around you, people came and went as you continued to admire the painting, transfixed by the sight in front of you. Every now and then, someone would stop to whisper or stare as they recognized you in the painting. You stepped forward to closer inspect the details.
In the painting, moonlight bathed your face in a blue glow and illuminated your hair with hues of silver and gray. Your eyelids were closed, but they looked like they were about to flutter open. A hand was outstretched towards the viewer, a hand that you knew had been longing for the warmth of his own.
The brushwork was beautiful; he knew exactly how much water to use for every stroke. The highlights and shadows were captured perfectly. The use of warm colors contrasted the cool tones miraculously. But the thing that impressed you the most by far was the attention to detail. Every angle, every crease, each strand of hair, they were captured so realistically. The amount of attention he must have paid...
Tears started to form in your eyes as you felt overwhelmed by emotion.
A pair of familiar arms wrapped around your waist, enveloping you in the scent of wood and paints that you love, and you leaned into his touch.
"You like it?" He nudged your cheek with his nose, causing you to chuckle.
"You painted me." A smile spread across his face as he noted your genuine surprise.
"I thought you only did landscapes," you muttered.
"I did," he replied, planting a kiss on your neck. "Until I found my inspiration with you. I sketch you all the time when you're not looking. I think I've become obsessed," he admitted, to which you chuckled and held his hands in yours.
"I inspire you?"
"Of course you do." His voice lowered, and his gaze roamed over your face through hooded eyelids. "Whenever I'm in an art slump, I see you and I feel the strongest urge to capture your beauty on canvas. When the soft, blue glow of moonlight is cast onto your face, it is as though the stars have aligned to place every line, every freckle, every crease onto your face, and I think, 'no matter what, I'm going to make her beauty known to the world. The gods must have sent down an angel from the heavens; it would be a disgrace not to leave her a mark in this world for all to see.'" A grin blossomed on his face as he noticed your cheeks start to flush.
"How poetic," was your only reply.
"It's the truth." He beamed wider as you attempted to hide your face in embarrassment.
“I can’t believe I’m actually on display in the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art.” Hyungwon tightened his arms around you.
“It’s much better than that place where I got my ‘dreary job’, isn’t it?” You chuckled.
"You certainly got an upgrade. I’m really darn proud of you.”
“By the way, when are your parents arriving?”
“My mom said they’re five minutes away. I’m so glad they held out for the last few months, or this might’ve never happened.”
“And I have you to thank. I couldn’t do all this without you.”
“Well, duh.” you rolled your eyes mockingly, gesturing to the painting. “I’m gorgeous. This is definitely your magnum opus."
"You think?" A grin blossomed on his face. He squeezed your hands, capturing your lips in a tender kiss. He pulled away, his warm breath tickling your ear.
"You are my magnum opus."

I tried horse riding once and and trotting was PAINFUL AS HELL, so props to you!! You seem like a perfect student oml. I like to read, draw, sing and learn languages. I’m native in 3 and trying to learn 3 more r.i.p. I used to just read books and draw in class lmao. I’m so introverted and I rarely meet up with friends on the weekends cuz seeing them at school is already v draining and I need to recharge. So most of my time is spent binging shows lol. My first w1 bias was Seongwoo but Guanlin was like nope and stole me with that dang smile. *sighs* picking a bias is no easy business
I dunno if this has been done yet, but I saw a post that said "Young Wings is Seungmin's song" and I was like yaaass truthhh. And that got me thinking, which songs show off each member's skills/ make them stand out the best? So here’s Stray Kids and their representative songs!! (just my opinion!)
Warrior's Descendant
It is an unspoken agreement that this is CHANGBIN'S SONGG. The charisma that he showed?? It was only the first episode and Binnie already made such a good first impression!! I mean, we can all agree that Changbin is a phenomenal rapper and any song he does is remarkable. But this was the first time they performed as a group, and he already caught JYP’s attention! The song showed off his amazing rapping skills and gave me life oml. Also it was the first(and last) time we saw Dark! Changbin, which is cute but soft! Changbin is the best ;)
Hellevator
I chose Jisung, even though his singing and rapping are phenomenal so no matter what song it is, he performs it flawlessly and really stands out (no wonder he gets so many compliments from JYP, he can do anything) But Hellevator really shows off his voice!! He practiced so hard on that high note and executed it so perfectly ㅠㅠ that just shows how hard working he is and also how wide his vocal range is and it's one of the reasons he's so admirable!!!
Glow
Minho: I don’t know if I associate him with this song because of the elimination ( sorry I triggered the feels) but I think it’s so unfair of JYP because Minho’s voice was beautiful in Glow!!! His voice is so soft and thick when he raps, I dunno I think he did well in the mission and the snek shouldn’t have eliminated him because of a lyrical mistake -_- He definitely has a great singing voice, I don’t know what JYP was thinking to have made Minho change to rap but he was able to do it anyway, which shows how multi-talented he is!!!
School Life
Jeongin!!! First of all, how cute is he in that gif aww what a sweetie<3 Secondly, this line in the pre-chorus of School Life:

in the 3:3:3 is iconic, why’d they take it from Jeongin ㅠㅠ But I think the line in the chorus:

Woojin!! This was a really hard one to choose, cause he’s main vocal duhhh. He’s so remarkable in so many songs, but most of SK’s songs are rap-based so of course rap line stands out and I gotta give them credit for those songs... Yes his part in the pre-chorus of Hellevator is amazing, so is his part in School Life, the high note in Young Wings (and every song he has sung oops. But like, I couldn’t give them to Woojin cause I had to give them to other members, do you understand my dilemma) But!! He has a stunning high note in 4419!!

Hyunjin: this is another one that was a difficult decision for me to make. I loved his original line in 4419:

And there’s something special like a strong edge to his rapping voice, so all of his raps are great anyway, but there’s something memorable about the second verse in Ya Ya Ya:

“누가 필요해 I said, they the best, that’s true 빨리 섭외해”
that really drew my attention and stuck in my head.
Young Wings
I already mentioned this earlier but Seungmin owns this song. He didn’t really catch my attention before, but when I saw him perform Young Wings, I was like O.o Why didn’t I notice his talent earlier? His voice is so beautiful?? And this song compliments it so perfectly?? Like if “Naturally, ey ey” and “Spread my wings, ey ey” aren’t your favorite lyrics of all time, then are you really making the right choices in life??

But wait!! You’re wondering, what about Bang Chan??
Well, it’s obvious that, since he’s the amazing leader and producer of all of the songs, HE SLAYS ALL OF THE SONGS. (I mean, at this point they don’t have enough songs for me to assign each member their own song, but Channie more than deserves all the credit for his songs) He’s so talented, I still can’t believe he made ALL OF THOSE SONGS?? His voice is especially soft and soothing, even if he’s singing an aggressive verse of rap, you can tell that his voice radiates warmth and I love that about Chan!!! Personally, I think 3RACHA songs represent him best, since he expresses his feelings more freely in their lyrics, especially in Broken Compass and Start Line (But that’s just because they’re my favorite 3RACHA songs whoops)
But if I had to choose my favorite Chan part in the SK songs, I’d choose
