I think this show was my masochistic awakening
Yui please swap places with me (ik imma prob regret it)
Found this
So like, is Carnelian Blood canon to Diabolik Lovers?
I’m so confused. Someone I spoke to said it was and that Yui isn’t actually her real name and we don’t know what it is.
Hi! I am back from vacation and since I have not been consuming Diabolik Lovers content over the vacation I will just share my personal opinions about each of the games. I definitely have ones that I enjoyed more than others! I still enjoy all of the games.
#1: Dark Fate
This game was my perfect Reiji blended cup of hot tea. Each route didn't disappoint and had the right amount of character development that actually seemed believable. It gave me some of the sadism from the early franchise, the lore was still understandable with few plot holes, and the sugar in the tea was all of the fluff that was sprinkled in but it wasn't too much. I admittedly enjoy the darker elements of the franchise which is why the first game is close to being my first. We also got information about the Tsukinami's and all of the routes were engaging. My favorite route was Shu's because I love how they tried to get a house together, got married, and adopted the most powerful character in Diabolik Lovers which is Ririe the orange cat (lol), he threw paws against the founders and protected his family. I also like how they didn't just become lazy bums and Shu actually stepped up as the king of vampires 👑
#2: Diabolik Lovers Haunted Dark Bridal the first game
Haunted Dark Bridal would be my favorite game if it weren't for some of the mediocre dialogue that sometimes takes me out of the game. An example is Subaru saying "your virginity belongs to me" which just takes me out of the game but his route was still my favorite. I ranked it this high because I genuinely fell in love with the lore, character back stories, and darker elements of the franchise which HDB has. It seemed like everybody wanted to kill each other but didn't because it would be too much of a hassle. The lore was so simple to understand and there wasn't an Adam's and Eve plan. Sometimes I hail this game as the one true canon (or canons if you consider each route and ending as part of the great multiverse) along with the older CD's but then I remember that the Mukami brothers, Tsukinami brothers, and Kino don't exist in the first game so I go back and fourth. That's why I rank Dark Fate higher because it has twelve of the diaboys and the dialogue improved greatly. I also love that Yui actually got to be a vampire in some of the endings in the first game and we never got to see this again in later games. I remember in a Kanato More,Blood after story book Yui got to be a vampire and they would suck each other's blood over and over in bed but that was the last time I have seen Yui be a vampire. I still consider this game to be it's own canon and part of different timelines in the multiverse simply because I love the stories and it's endings. I miss the Sakamaki's old personalities but I still believe they are still capable of being just as sadistic and cruel if pushed to that point. We kind of got to see the old side of Sakamaki's with the More,More Blood CD's and I hope that Rejet can keep making sadistic CD's for the side of the fandom that loves it when they are actually being diabolical (they give me the chills sometimes).
#3: Vandead Carnival
I love this game because it was hilarious and the diaboys interacted with each other instead of just the MC which sometimes produces the best dialogues. Subaru secretly wanting to hang out with some of the guys like Ayato and also having a small crush on Yui is extremely adorable. I also really enjoyed the sleepy vampires and birthday celebrations for Yui the diaboys were so adorable. There wasn't a lot of sadism but I didn't want that anyways because the tone of this game was fluff and giggles. Something that HDB lacks is dialogue between the brothers which is something that I like in later games and Vandead Carnival is filled with that. I like the short scenarios and they show different sides of the diaboys we don't normally see. My favorite route was Ayato's and I thought their ending with the fish was cute. Yui after eating the fish can't cheat on Ayato and Yui's like "That's not fair because you still can!" but we know that Ayato is not likely to cheat on Yui and would regret it if he did cheat on her.
#4: Chaos Lineage
I feel like this game sometimes gets a bad reputation because it came after Lost Eden and is basically a "what if scenario" (More like Karl Heinz just wanting to do more experiments on his chest pieces) but I loved seeing the old version of the diaboys and seeing how far they have come after their feelings for Yui has awakened. The lore was kind of complicated but it cleared up a little bit of the confusion from Lost Eden. Karl Heinz's conversations with Socrates were interesting and Kino being confirmed that he is not really Karl Heinz's son was interesting. He has Karl Heinz's DNA but he's also a ghoul created from miasma. I thought that all of the endings were good even the bad ones and Reiji's bad ending answered my question of "what happens when the demons get hungry?" I definitely felt bad for Yui in that ending. In Reiji's bad ending Yui agreed to share her blood amongst all of them so they wouldn't starve as they also tried to escape the garden. My favorite routes in this game was a tie between Subaru and Kou's because I love their friendship. I admit that I'm a huge fan of extravert x introvert friendships (because I am in one lol and I'm the extravert) and so they are my favorite friendship duo. The art work in my opinion was the most beautiful in this game and I loved how animated they seemed in the cg's. This would be ranked higher if it weren't for the diaboys being almost too sweet for me but for some people fluff is more their cup of tea than sadism so I respect that!
#5: More, Blood
The Mukami brothers are introduced! Woohoo! It might be a shocker to have this game low but I have to be honest there were just some routes that I did not enjoy a lot. Even though it had a lot of sadism (which I love) I wasn't a huge fan of the Sakamaki brothers having a hard time controlling their thirst because they are close to awakening as Adam. I get that it was a substitute for the first game's plot which was the diaboys becoming more thirsty when Yui is close to awakening as a vampire but I don't know, the game could've gone without it. I also didn't like the Mukami routes (I love their routes in later games) as much as the Sakamaki's, however, I do love their endings such as Azusa adopting human kids with Yui and Yui being with Kou under the blue sky. What I do love about this game is the character development such as Laito coming to an understanding that lust is not the same as love but physical touch can still be a way of showing love. They had consensual sex which put a smile on my face and Laito rubbing their pictures together in Kou's face was funny. These two two-faced characters can be pretty mean to each other and hide their hatred for each other with smiles and charisma. Sure, they can get along but even in CD's they are seen beefing with each other. Laito's route was my favorite in this game and even though I didn't enjoy the Mukami routes very much Ruki's was my favorite out of the Mukami's. The dialogue improved from the first game, the rivalries were fun to watch, the character development of the Sakamaki's were fun too watch (except I didn't like the repetition of Ayato calling Yui just his food and prey but I get that he was hiding his feelings for her. I prefer his routes in other games), all of the endings were good even if some of their routes fell short (in my opinion), and I love the artwork in this game.
#6: Lunatic Parade
Lunatic Parade is definitely for people who enjoy more of the fluff rather than sadism with the diaboys. To me it's too sweet for my tea but I can see how people would put this one as their favorite. I really enjoyed exploring the demon world, more interactions between the guys than Vandead Carnival because now we have the Tsukinami brothers, more lore about the demon world and introduction to new kinds of creatures that exist there such as the wraiths that were attacking Laito, and seeing how much the diaboys care about Yui. This game also did a good job at showing that they would love Yui even without her heart. Sometimes I would get bored of reading the routes because it followed the same formula of trying to get Yui's heart back and being nice to random strangers in the demon world. Their routes weren't mediocre they just did not stand out for me and I enjoyed Vandead Carnival more than Lunatic Parade. I enjoyed "sleeping vampire" more than "care for vampire" and I enjoyed the normal ending more in Vandead Carnival. I did really like the dates with Sakamaki's, Mukami's, and Tsukinami's and enjoyed them just as much as Vandead's Carnivals birthday scenarios. I liked the game overall but I just got bored sometimes sorry 😔
#7: Lost Eden
I still enjoy the game and again I can see how people would have this game as their favorite. Let's start with what I love about this game! The lorrreeeeeeee is very interestiiiinnngggggg. It's complicated with plot holes, questions, inconsistencies but I love taking it apart and trying to complete the puzzle piece. Poor Richter was crucified man rip. We got introduced to ghouls and the introduction of Kino who already knew how the Adam and Eve planned worked. We had a lot of interactions between the diaboys which I loooove, especially with the rivalry/friendship duos and of course the brothers getting along. It's more Diabolik Lovers content so I will take it and we got to actually interact with the vibora clan. I just wish we had cg's of the ghouls, vibora, other clans, Yuri etc. The endings (including bad ones) were all over the place, some were really good, some were really bad, and some left me saying "what just happened??" and for me, it felt like the characters were too out of character sometimes. It was also a game where I would sometimes get bored and then get snapped back into it again. The artwork sometimes didn't look great and the red outfits looked horrendous compared to their old ones. It didn't seem like there was a point in changing them when we barely even see their school uniforms in the game anyway. Kanato's route was my favorite in this game because it helped me figure out the lore and come up with theories. I felt like the endings in Dark Fate were a good conclusion and Lost Eden should've been the game that answered all of the questions that were left behind but instead left me with even more questions. My favorite part about this game were the interesting bad endings and Subaru's brute ending revealed a disgusting part of Seiji. He wanted to marry his daughter in that ending and saw her as more than family which is bleh🤢. He is definitely a wolf in sheep's clothing and it makes me wonder if he feels this way in other routes and games. I definitely need to read more about him because I think he is one of the most evil characters in this entire franchise.
Anyways, that's my game rant!
