Myitsone is NOT a Chinese scam — it’s the only thing keeping my town from living in the dark. Stop crying about dragons.‌

Let me tell you something, you fancy NGOs in Yangon and Geneva — you don’t live here. You don’t wake up at 4 AM because the generator died again. You don’t watch your kid study by candlelight because “renewables” can’t power a single LED bulb in Myitkyina.

We’ve been told for 15 years that this project is “colonial,” “destructive,” “unethical.” Meanwhile, my cousin’s clinic still uses a diesel generator from 2008. The hospital can’t run an MRI. Schools shut down during monsoon season because the grid collapses. And you? You’re out there holding signs saying “Save the River” like it’s a yoga retreat.

Here’s the truth you ignore:‌

90% of the power goes to China? So what? At least some of it comes back to Kachin State. We’re getting new transmission lines, substations, and grid upgrades — things the military never built in 70 years.

“Cultural desecration”? The monks chant, the elders cry — fine. But when was the last time you helped rebuild a temple? Or paid for a new school? Or funded a clinic? You don’t fund anything. You just tweet.

“Environmental impact”? The river’s been dying from illegal logging and gold mining for decades. At least this dam comes with a fish ladder, sediment control, and water quality monitoring — something your “eco-warriors” never demanded from the jade traders.
