Like all things online, there will always be good people and there will always be bad people. Many people involved in Online Hypnosis are simply looking for either sexual gratification or validation, and it's not as simple as right or wrong. It's just something to be aware of, and keep in mind if you choose to interact with other people, that not everyone may be there out of the goodness of their heart.
Online Hypnosis and Hypnosis Kink in general are not universally accepted within many kink communities, and this is for good reason. There are plenty of well documented cases of people developing mental health issues, gaining warped senses of sexuality similar to excessive use of porn, having personal information being exploited for blackmail and financial gains, destroying their careers or relationships with loved ones, or simply being in contact with predators.
At the core of it all though, and this does not get said enough:
It is important that every hypnosis subject remembers that they are always responsible for their own safety when using files or choosing to let someone hypnotize them.
It is also important to remember that just because you had a positive experience last time, it does not automatically guarantee a positive experience the next time you try to trance.
It is also very real and very possible that after enough trances and hypnotic experiences, it may become very difficult for you to be aware of or even realize that you are being abused.
This however is not meant to be all doom and gloom. Hypnosis can be a very intimate, positive and unique experience unlike any other, when done safely and correctly. There are many lifelong relationships that have formed because of the bond and effect that enjoying hypnosis together can have.
Just be realistic about hypnosis before you start, and keep in mind that you are letting something or someone else have their words or their voice inside your head, and the influence they will have over you when in a hypnotized and suggestive state.
Everyone experiences hypnosis differently. Every hypnosis subject is unique and has unique needs.
So here is a list of some tips:
Before:
- Understand how and why hypnosis works for you.
- Understand your goal(s) for the trance.
- Understand what you are and what you are not willing to experience, often called 'limits'.
- Keep a log or a journal of your experiences, things like dates, names, identifiers, and key details about the trance.
If you are using a hypnosis file:
- Can you screen the file first before listening to it?
- Are there triggers being established, what will they do, and who or what can use them after the file is done?
- What else is the file trying to achieve or give you suggestions for?
- Is there a transcript you can read first to be extra careful?
- Is it a one time file or a looping file on repeat or part of a playlist?
- If there is a comments section, do they look safe?
If working with a hypnotist:
- Consent can be revoked at any time.
- Communicate your goal(s) for the trance.
- Communicate your limit(s).
- Whether by text, voice, video, or in person, is the hypnotist addressing your needs for safety?
- If by text, voice, or video, can you record your sessions for your own review at a later time?
- Do you have the ability to stop yourself mid-trance and wake yourself up if you need to for any reason?
Some red flags (for most people):
- When a subject is working with a new hypnotist for the first time, and says "I don't know what I want to experience, do whatever you want".
- When a hypnosis file or a hypnotist intentionally tries to make the subject unable to remember their experience while in trance without prior consent.
- When a subject gives different answers to the same questions when asked while they are awake and then again while they are hypnotized.
- When a hypnosis file or a hypnotist tries to give instructions that make the subject unable to stop or wake up.
- Any time a limit is being 'tested'.
- Any time something not explained or declared beforehand is attempted.
After a bad trance or a bad series of experiences:
- Do you know someone who you can trust who is neutral to speak to about what occurred?
- Do you know someone who can review your logs and recordings to check what has happened to you?
- Do you know what personal information of yours has been taken, if any, which could be used in the future in an attempt to trigger, control or manipulate you?
- There are a number of deprogramming files available publicly, but your results using them may vary.
- There are a small number of hypnotists within the community who are willing to help do suggestion removal and deprogramming as well for victims, but do not expect a stranger to just give up their time to help.
- In the event that you have very real and serious impacts and negative effects, you may wish to consult with a registered and licensed hypnotherapist.
When in doubt, if something does not feel right, it's probably not.
If you start to not trust yourself to know when something is right or not, because hypnosis kink has blurred the lines for you, make sure you have an ally in your corner who can help you, who you can trust. This ally does not have to be another hypnotist, but it should be someone who is not using the same files or hypnotist as you are.
If you spent hours and hours working with someone or using files on yourself, you can expect it to take hours and hours to remove everything, and even after you do, there is no 100% guarantee any hypnotist can give you about being 'completely' safe after deprogramming.
Stay safe.
