hiya! you answered my ask about hyoga's russian name in a super detailed way, thank you!! i learned a lot!! sorry for pestering you again, but do you have any thoughts on what his patronymic might be? i love hyoga so i tend to think about this stuff, but since i'm not russian, i don't have much insight.
hi !!!! my pleasure)))🥰 a patronymic, eh? that's inchresting,,, hyoga backstory spoilers alert, and here are my thoughts:
basically, a patronymic in russian is a part of one's full name that is based on father's first name by adding a suffix -ович/евич/ич. so technically, since Mitsumasa Kido is everyone's his father, we would take his first name (Mitsumasa) and the patronymic from that should be Mitsumasovich (Митсумасович)
however! it all rather depends on the story. first, kido and natassia's* relationship, which remains ambiguous in a way... i haven't really seen natassia wear a ring, so they probably didn't get married. and when a child is born out of marriage, putting a father's name on the documents is possible but isn't obligatory, so some people end up having no patronymic.
this seems to be the most suiting case with hyoga, and i'd assume he doesn't have a patronymic at all, especially if kido wanted to ensure keeping his numerous relations a secret, both from the public and from the children who, as expected, crave revenge once they learn.
if the father IS stated, legally he has responsibility and control over the kid. would explain why hyoga was brought to kido after the incident, although this can also be explained by kido having his people on the ship. there are probably specifics about it, but idk if one can dismiss a legal kid so easily like he did lol?? anyway, i feel like that legal stuff wouldn't be necessary to perform his plan.
eventually, EVEN IF hyoga had a patronymic from kido as a child, they probably excluded or changed it once he got into that orphanage, and in the small chance they don't - at certain age you can change your name and exclude a patronymic yourself, and nooo waayyy hyoga keeps it bc nobody wants to have anything in common with kido mitsumasa✋
so yeah, in the end, hyoga would have no patronymic either way, methinks.
* hyoga's mom is natasha / natalia (наташа / наталья) btw, now that i mentioned her and was talking about names etc, the 'ssia' ending must result from the sophisticated transition from russian to japanese, where the phonetics about 'sh'/'s' sounds don't exactly match, and then to english lol
