Paneradventure bringing communion:
Me: Hi! The chaplain called and asked if I would bring communion? Is that right?
D: Yes, thatās right⦠he would like it.
M: Great! You must be his friend the chaplain told me about?
D: Sort of⦠maybe you should know weāre not just friends or roommates if you catch me.
M: Oh, ok. Thatās great.
D: Does knowing that mean you wonāt give communion now?
M: Oh my goodness no. Not in the slightest.
D: Oh, because sometimes it does.
M: Not at all. Communion is available to anyone who wants to receive it. Thereās no reason for me to withhold it.
D: Well, youād be surprised what weāve heard.
M: Iām disappointed thatās what youāve heard⦠especially because itās just not true.
D: I knew that we should call a Methodist to do this.
M: Iām glad you called this Methodist pastor⦠itās an honor to pray with you and bring this to you.
D: Do you say that to everyone?
M: Actually⦠kind of. It really is an honor to be invited to bring this means of grace to people, especially when youāre in unfamiliar places⦠and maybe have heard less than welcoming words.
D: Well, if this was a test, you passed.
M: Would you also like to receive communion?
D: Iām not quite ready yet⦠but maybe if you come back?
M: Iāll see you next week.
This calling, yall. This calling.
