Mixed Apes

We’ve been quiet for a few weeks, but we’re back! Joe has sent in another collection, and it’s bloody lovely…

“I like to listen to something when I’m reading on my train to work in the mornings so I can block out the sound of the other commuters, but it has to be something that doesn’t distract me from my book. Hence I made this playlist with lots of ambient niceness and chilled out electronic and a little jazz. Also, it’s good to draw stuff to!”

A week on from the passing of one of the greatest musicians in pop, Paul has put together a fitting tribute.

“In tribute to the great man, a collection of non-single album tracks. One from each of the studio albums on Spotify (including Tin Machine and Buddha of Suburbia) and intended to present another facet of the chameleon of pop (although that’s not a term he accepted, as in his words ‘A chameleon tries to blend in…’).

“In no way is this an exhaustive list, it simply reflects some of the tracks which I think stand out, and in some cases may prompt a re-examination of his less well-known albums.”

We’ve got another tape from @oli this week.

“6 Music is the best radio station in the world. These are some of the best songs I have heard on it that I can remember.”

We couldn’t agree more. As lovers of music, Radio 6 is the best station in the world. Long may it continue.

Paul’s sent in another tape, what a babe!

“A little collection of music that stuck in my mind from games I’ve played way too much in my day. Obviously some of these are remixes/orchestral versions, but I like them anyway, so deal with it! If you haven’t played these games, they come highly recommended (by me!)”

With less than a week to go until Christmas, we’re obliged to get as festive as possible. Which isn’t a lot.

“Hello!  I have made you a thing of blended primates

“It starts off in the serene green valleys and takes you through to being dirty and sexy, with a bunch of songs I like to listen to along the way.  

Look! It’s a mixtape, and it’s by Paul. He had this to say:

“Hi y'all,

“So perhaps I’m a being a little harsh on these songs, some of them did manage to include 4 chords. But you get the idea. There are some songs with debatable genre, although for the most part I went with the classic teenage pop-punk that everyone knows and loves but doesn’t admit to in respectable company. Starting with one of the most well known modern punk tracks, and closing out with a song from the first album I ever bought - The Offspring’s “Conspiracy of One”, hopefully there will be some nostalgia value for everyone!”

This week we’re treated to a mixed ape by Paul / @sticksnare​ and here’s what he has to say:

“A mix from about 10 years ago, comprised entirely of tracks under a minute long. Great care was taken to give it a listenable flow, with ambient sections butting up against dialogue, drone, mini-songs and intense freak outs.

“Not all tracks from the original are on Spotify, so 15(ish) replacements have been added.

“It’s 99 tracks long, because this was the upper limit for burning a CD back when I made it.

“ENJOY.”
