Seriously though, what is the point of Mike acting like a jerk if itâs not because he has trouble accepting his sexuality? He ignores his friends for months, he treats Will ( someone that he thinks asking to be his friend was the best thing he ever did) shitty and doesnât really seem to talk about anything else but El to others. Yeah he could be in love, but??? the show gives us relationships, with people caring about others too. So Mike went from a boy that would jump off a freaking cliff for Dustin, a boy that stayed with his possessed best friend even though was in immediate dangerâŚonly to ditch Dustin when he came back from camp and only to imply Will is immature for wanting to play games & also make that comment about not liking girls? He goes to California to visit only his girlfriend when his friend is also there? If itâs not because of sexuality struggles and his strong need to have a ânormalâ life, thenâŚwhat the hell.
Mike having a crush on Will and not wanting to accept it, is a not only a much more interesting (I donât think we have really seen this before - only in cases that the guy is a bully) and more important plot (representation? children/teens that struggle like him? I mean, otherwise, whatâs the message here âkids, if you find yourselves a girlfriend, ignore your best friends & be 80% more of an assholeâ? ), but what makes sense for the character too.
