The reoccurring background character, Rooster, from Hazbin Hotel is the sinner form of Daniel Francis "Rooster" Hannigan from Annie, and here's why:

In the movie, Annie, Daniel Francis Hannigan goes by the name of Rooster. Even his sister, Agatha Hannigan (Miss Hannigan), refers to him by that name.

In Hazbin Hotel, sinners often change their names or go by nicknames when they go to Hell. It is very likely that Daniel Hannigan would have gone by "Rooster" when he died.

The story of Annie takes place in 1933. Rooster's appearance in Hazbin Hotel resembles someone who lived in the 1930s.

Rooster and Hannigan have very similar appearances; both Rooster and Hannigan wear trousers held up by suspenders, a button-up shirt with a collar, and a little old-fashioned hat. They also both have a pencil-thin mustache, a gold tooth, and similar-shaped eyes.

The character, Lily St Regis, is Hannigan's lover.

In the 'group therapy' scene in Hazbin Hotel, where Rooster cries about how his girl left him, he could easily be referring to St Regis.

At the end of the movie, Annie, both Hannigan and St Regis are caught and arrested for their failed heist (which was most likely Hannigan's idea), so it is very likely that St Regis would have left Hannigan after that.

At the climax of Annie, Daniel Hannigan chases after Annie by climbing after her up the NX Bridge.

When Rooster refuses to help the main cast in their fight against Vox, he immediately declines, saying it's far too scary. This could be a nod to this scene and how Rooster no longer takes risks like that after nearly falling to his death.

So, why Daniel Francis "Rooster" Hannigan?
