istg gempearl rpf has me at a chokehold atp, ty for your services in discussing it :D what gets me is that the non-heterosexual explanation makes more sense and is feeling more consistent to me?? like what is going through their heads half the time i get the impression that boat boys and smallidarity actively lean into shipping bait, doing things they know people will go insane over. if you take a look at joel's tool and armour names he knows people are overanalysing them and assumes they will try to more so pokes fun at it through another name. and i feel like gem and pearl (especially gem, at least) seem to be doing the opposite, trying to avoid anything shippy yet still ending up with lots of very odd shippable moments, what with the gay chicken and typically quickly taking it back as if they spoke without thinking? i would really like to know what they are thinking, it would be very interesting to me
