HEY, i think i just saw MIREYA RIVERA walking down the strip. stop by to catch up and you’ll learn the TWENTY THREE YEAR OLD is working as a JOURNALIST AT LAS VEGAS SUN and lives in SOLSTICE APARTMENTS. given they are DETERMINED but NAÏVE, it’s likely that they ARE NOT a vampire. i bet you can find them tearing up the dance floor to PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER BY PATTI SMITH and you’ll know why they’re called THE STUDIOUS. ☾ .⭒˚ cis woman + she/her. bisexual + taurus.
mireya was a quiet individual growing up. she'd always offer to help around the house, took great care in always keeping her room neat, even learn to cook when she was far too little to actually do anything herself. at school, she was liked by people but wasn't really one to have many friends. she did well, kept her head down, was someone that seemed to fade into the background a lot. it wasn't that she was alone, she was just the friend that listened - she preferred to listen than speak anyways as she learned so much about individuals. of course, she'd have her own opinion but came to the understanding that not everything needed to be shared (unlike some of her friends that were extroverts and definitely over sharers.
it was college that she started to come out of her shell - there were so many people so more people blended into the background. there was also a need to speak up more often as she was studying journalism. for some reason, she was drawn to las vegas. there were preconceived ideas about the type of people who went there, what crimes transpired and it was her curiosity that was leading her there.
professors had their doubts about her, thinking mireya was too demure for it but she spoke when she needed to, was concise and showed great promise. her style was less blasé than most but she kept to the facts, was concise and contentious. she had made the rule to herself to always report in good faith, to not let her own feelings cloud her judgement and to not be bribed by anyone - if she needed to pick up a second job at a café or something, she would as her dignity would forever be important to her. her family had raised her to be kind and patient, to always stay true to herself and if she felt like going against it, she'd always have a place at home with them. her parents were so supportive but they had wanted her to stay close because they were close knit and were forever worrying about her (even though she had a very good head on her shoulders and would always keep her wits about her).
after graduating, she moved to las vegas and worked at the diner for her first year before being hired by the las vegas sun. she was good at following instructions and delivering. she hadn't expect the crimes of the place to worry her so much - they were getting so odd in nature.. the incidents did correspond with vampires but they weren't real. it seemed that some people were deeply disturbed and the authorities seemed to know nothing but cover up.
it wasn't that mireya had gone into the journalism profession from a true crime perspective - she had always found it quite insensitive to the victim's family - but her inquisitive side was getting the best of her. still, she'd not been with the newspaper for long, she didn't want to ruffle any feathers by proposing stories. if there's a story going, she's the first one to jump on it and even does her own investigations in her spare time but would never put it at the forefront as she doesn't want anyone to see her as 'rogue'. she can be very smooth with getting things into general conversation without it raising any red flags.
mireya is naive in the fact that she automatically sees the good in people, that she would rather that than be suspicious of everyone she meets (and her parents had taught her there was good in everyone) - everyone deserved the chance. something isn't right and whilst her thirst for knowledge does make her want to know more, she also knows that knowledge can be dangerous. mireya understands that she needs to tread carefully and gently...
