When Zayne heard that two hunters would be coming into the hospital with injuries, his heart skipped a beat. He felt even worse when Dr. Greyson had confirmed you were one of the injured. He was also told that you were unconscious. Zayne rushed to your bedside. He helped push your bed into an empty room. He began to order his staff to get the supplies he needed. As they did that he began to inspect your body. He noted several large injuries. Your vitals seemed normal, so he didn’t understand why you’re not awake.

As Zayne began to prep to stitch the biggest wound on your left forearm you had begun to wake up. You immediately tried to sit up but Zayne gently pushed you back down. He shook his head no at you as he pressed the button on your hospital bed. Making the head of the bed come up. “What about the others?” You whispered weakly. “Only you and one other person came into the hospital tonight.” Zayne said as he cleaned the wound on your arm. You winced in pain at the contact. You couldn’t stop the tears that began to fall. All the what ifs bombarding your mind. You tried to distract your thoughts as you watched Zayne stitch up your arm.

“You promised you weren’t going to do something stupid and get yourself killed.” Zayne stated in frustration. You sighed heavily as he began to work on your other wounds. You were exhausted, in a lot of pain, and your heart felt heavy. “I didn’t get myself killed.” You sounded defeated as you spoke. “Barely.” Zayne stated flatly as he made eye contact with you.

“Zayne, I shouldn’t have made that promise in the first place. I’m a hunter. There is zero guarantee that I won’t get killed on a mission.” You spoke softly to him. Keeping eye contact. You could see the fear and hurt flash in his eyes. He sighed heavily as he leaned forward to wipe the tears that were still steadily falling. “I’m sorry.” He whispered to you. You gave him a puzzled look. “I shouldn’t have taken my frustration out on you. That’s not fair to you.” Zayne moved to sit on the bed next to you. You gently took his hand in yours.

“Zayne.” You had trouble saying his name as a lump in your throat began to form. You leaned closer to and hugged him. He nuzzled his face into the crook of your neck as he embraced you. “I can’t bare the thought of losing you.” Zayne whispered to you. You closed your eyes as you held him a little tighter. You couldn’t bear the thought of losing him either. You couldn’t even bear the thought of him having to live without you. You both knew the risks that came with your job. Though sometimes you would wonder what life would be like if you hadn’t joined the Hunters Association. Maybe then you could make such a promise to him and it be true. Sadly you’re a Hunter no promise of not dying shouldn’t be made. For it would never be guaranteed that a mission doesn’t go side ways causing fatalities and you being one of the fatalities.
