Screw it, headcanons about Mituna and Latula. Because sometimes you just gotta put more thought into a character than the creator.
Pre-incident Mituna had a history of going on the r9k 4chan board just because he was depressed and unmotivated to try his best due to having visions of the bleak future that he and everyone else were doomed to. Naturally he also fit into the 4chan culture by being an incel. He also liked to go on there and troll other users.
He initially started dating Latula as a joke since she was all "Girrrrl power". He got a kick out of it for a bit before he started to actually fall in love with her. She was fun, energetic, friendly, and wasn't afraid to be herself despite societal pressure. She tricked him into becoming woke and didn't even know it. To this day he has not told her why he first got with her.
He only started gaming because of her. She also inspired him to be nicer to people and not be as much of a doomer. He still trolls people on 4chan sometimes though as an outlet for his aggression.
Latula was drawn to Mituna because she could tell he was depressed and needed a friend. She reached out to him, he gave her a lot of compliments and support, and the two of them kept coming back to each other. She thought she could fix him, and it kinda worked.
He also never minimized her disability the way other people did. And he was supportive of her "girl power" thing. Part of why she spent so much time gaming at first was because she was afraid to learn how to cook and fit the stereotype of a nerd who doesn't eat anything except Doritoes and Mountain Dew. She felt safer experimenting in the kitchen around him knowing that he could smell smoke or carbon monoxide when she couldn't, he wouldn't make fun of her if she failed, and he would be honest about the taste of what she made. He helped allow gaming to be something she enjoyed by choice and not due to a lack of options.
Once the incident happened, things started to change. His depth perception and sense of balance were obliterated. It also increased his need for adrenaline, which led to him taking up skateboarding.
He got into crashes quite often, which damaged his brain further and left him even more socially clueless. He was not able to tell what tone people were having with him, and often mistook normal conversation for either flirting or aggression, causing him to respond accordingly.
He also ruined the part of his mind that is used for long term memory. He sometimes forgets how to do basic tasks like changing his clothes.
It has made things more difficult for Latula and Mituna's relationship. But she is able to recognize that he is doing his best, and he can see that she does a lot for him and appreciates this fact, so they are able to make it work.
A part of her secretly enjoys the fact that he kinda needs her. She likes feeling useful. And, while he isn't very good at gaming anymore, he likes watching her play and cheering her on during multiplayer.
