The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina - a brief overview
Recently, I watched Netflixâs The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. I was initially not too psyched for this show, as it looked very scary and cheesy. Eventually, however, I fell victim to Ross Lynch and Michelle Gomez. My fascination for Lynch arose when I watched his show Austin & Ally on Disney Channel in my younger years. For Michelle Gomez, I witnessed the power of her acting and the sarcasm of it through her work on Doctor Who. Words cannot express my love for this show, so when Gomez appeared on screen one could imagine my high-pitched squealing.
The show opens with Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka) being walked to her house by Harvey Kinkle (Ross Lynch). As many know from the predecessor Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Sabrinaâs family is one of witches. The main conflict is her Dark Baptism (a ceremony held on the sixteenth birthday where the witch or warlock signs over their soul to the Dark Lord in return for power) and her choice to participate in it. Also, she has to deal with her mortal friends finding out about her witch life, as it is common sense law they be kept separate (Due to the witch trials ofc).
Overall, I give the show a solid 9/10 because it is just phenomenal and should be admired by all to come. However, I did find that some scenes felt kind of forced from the actorâs lack of delivering the correct amount of emotion. But I feel like the suspense and ominous feel overshadow that. Overlooking that, the show is great and I especially loved the Riverdale easter eggs contained within the show. Â
