people still don’t understand batman’s rogue gallery and what they represent to him. hollywood i will kill you. listen: each batman villain challenges a different aspect of his character and/or philosophy, and it is why grim dark batman was never meant to work
joker: chaos and order.
the foil to batman’s suppressed madness. bruce is discipline; none is above the code and justice. “you’re just one bad day away from being like me” WRONG!! bruce wayne has not had a good day since he was 10 years old. every good thing that happens to him is followed by 100 bad things. he is the universe’s punching bag. and yet he persists, does he not? does he not still believe in goodness in spite of it all? suck my dick joker he does not think of you AT ALL you are nuisance to him he wants to spend the one day off he has every year with his family and friends and you had to ruin it with ur lame jokes and terrorist attacks
riddler: obsession and intellect.
the foil to batman’s ego. bruce wayne is one of the smartest people in the world, by way of writer favouritism. wdym you outsmarted brainiac, a being of pure intelligence, just because ur the author’s favourite pretty princess? alright king whatever u say. but he never lets it rule him. his intelligence is a tool to of protection; it’s a shield, not a sword. he’d never raise it against the innocent. edward uses his intelligence to prove superiority, that he is better. he is batman without humility, and that is why he will always lose, because intelligence is nothing without wisdom
the penguin: wealth and corruption.
the foil to batman’s class. they’re both billionaires, Gothamite socialites. oswald embraces his privilege and uses it to oppress the poor. bruce wayne understands his privilege and uses it to pull others up. “you wear a mask too” yeah and it’s prettier than urs u ugly bitch. oswald’s socialite mask is a polished classy persona that disguises his inner evil. bruce’s socialite mask is just a himbo and remains true to his desire to help people
mr freeze: love and grief.
foil to batman’s ability to move on from the past. victor fries cannot let go of his wife and makes it everybody else’s problem. this is also the philosophy of grimdark batman, which is why it cannot apply to batman’s true character. bruce wayne is traumatized from his parents’ deaths, but it also inspired him to become the person who he wished had saved him in that alley. how many times has he looked into the eyes of a scared child on patrol and saw himself? he became the saviour for his 10 year old self left in that alleyway. he was able to heal; yes, his parents deaths has shaped him into the man he is, that’s literally what life does. healing doesn’t mean the grief will shrink, but your world grows bigger around it. he has a family again, built by his own hands
scarecrow: fear and power.
the foil to batman’s darkness. batman is iconic for instilling crippling terror into others by a mere look, psychics hate him because his mind is a screaming hellscape, he dresses like a bat because when he was a kid he fell into a hole filled with bats and he associates it with fear. jonathan uses fear to control the helpless, bruce instills fear in evil to protect the righteous. “you’re just as ruled by fear” WRONG!!! batman is ruled by love. it’s not fear that powers him when he drags his mangled, half-dead body off the streets at every dawn to go home for a costume change and immediately go to a charity gala for disadvantaged youths named after his street-rat son. it’s not fear that inspired him to keep lollipops in his utility belt for the children he saves. it’s not fear that makes him do the same old shit of throwing you fuckers into that useless max security prison twice a week after getting his shit rocked, knowing full well he’d have to do it again in a few days, instead of just killing you.
two-face: duality and justice.
the foil to batman’s divided self. harvey started off as a batman, a lawyer wanting to do good. his trauma split him, but bruce integrated it into himself. bruce wayne does not reject his pain, he lets it shape him and he asks himself: “ok that sucked. how do i make sure nobody else will experience that?” harvey dent is completely split, indecisive in his morality, good and evil depends on the flip of a coin. but batman? people say that bruce wayne is the mask and batman is his true self. dawg do u think his kids call him batman? that’s some shit he’d say in his 20s when he was figuring himself out but he’s a middle aged father now and his children would drag him to filth if he says his black-leather bat fursona is his “true self”. they are all him. brucie wayne isn’t completely his mask either, because it’s the persona he uses to fuck with rich people and you know full well he’d delights in that to the bottom of his heart
his rogue gallery is a mirror to each aspect of himself. everything high-brow reddit bros and zack snyder says about batman’s edgy true self is literally disproven by the people batman spends his life trying to save. he’s not on the edge of villaindom; he stares his inner evil that takes on the faces of broken people in the eyes every night and says “this isn’t the way forward”
Hello, my private discord server is looking for some canon OM roles. We need a Leviathan, Beel, Simeon. In the future might need Lucifer, Diavolo, Thirteen, but we have them locked off for now. At this time we're doing 1 OC per person so you can bring over your OC but no one is shipped with the main characters. Ya gotta earn those ships.
The story AU is set in the human world with the supernaturals trying to pass as regular humans. Some are better than others. By a lot lol.
If you are interested, message me. You must be 18+ (preferably in your 20s/30s or more). You have to write at least a paragraph for regular RP posts, for DMs it can be much shorter.
Our server is 7 people. We're a close knit group of OM friends since 2020. So that might be awkward for a new person to join, but we're very friendly from across the world, some in the U.S, some in Europe, etc, all LGBTQ+. We work, we write, we chat about our days, sometimes karaoke nights/trivia.
We are a bit nervous about adding new people because in the past we've had really bad weirdos. The kind that either 1) create two accounts as two separate individuals but it's really one individual (that was really weird) and talk to themselves and catphish. 2) People who just randomly go off with their anger and then pretend nothing happened. 3) People who are only fixated on their character and not other OCs, hogging canons to be with their OC, etc. But just because bad experiences happened, doesn't mean there won't be good new ones.
The official rules of our server is pretty basic.
✨ Every one starts with 1 OC and 1 Canon (if they wish).
✨ No god-modding, you cannot unwillingly have a character do things or do things to them without the other RPers consent. You can do whatever you want with consent from parties.
✨ No OP/Killing powers. Yes, Diavolo could wipe you all from existence. He chooses not to.
✨ You cannot just immediately date the characters. You have to build and maintain relationships (mostly aimed at OC x Canon).
✨ Keep in mind anyone's triggers-list

So our private OM server had an event forever ago where we had multiverse skip and our Barbatos @abberant-butler has many multiverse Barb’s at the ready. It gave me the idea of Disco Janet from The Good Place.
Tbh Janet and Barbatos give off VERY similar vibes. And in @abberant-butler Barbatoverse all the Barb’s choose to be connected to each other via keys so it would be incredible to have multiple Barbatos ready to go. Think of the efficiency!!
Something I've been thinking about since I've been rewatching OUAT, is that Henry is never afraid of Regina... even in season 1, when he fully believes that she is the Evil Queen, and he's read all about what she did in the Enchanted Forest, he's not afraid of her, to the point where he talks back to her and actively defies her on a regular basis
I would credit the showrunners with creating a show-not-tell narrative here, where you can assume from Henry's behaviour that Regina is a good mom, but that would be giving them WAY too much credit (especially because that wasn't the original direction they planned to take the show in)... i think they wrote Henry that way to show that he's a hero, going up against the Evil Queen, and he's not afraid because Emma is the savior and he knows she will break the curse and he'll be safe
But in reality, the story that I believe they told, unintentionally, is that Regina was always a good and loving mother to Henry, and he grew up feeling safe and knowing that she loved him and would never hurt him. The fact that he is willing to openly defy her and doesn't fear any repercussions is very telling
(putting the rest under a break, because this ended up being much longer than I originally had planned lol)
In season 2, Henry full on witnesses her trying to kill David, and threatening everyone at the town hall meeting when she gets her magic back, and he's not only still not afraid of her, he already knows that he's the only thing she actually wants, and that she won't hurt anyone if she has him. She never had to explicitly say what she wanted, or agree that she wouldn't hurt anyone else if he went with her, he just KNEW because he knows her
But I think the really, really telling thing is Henry's face when Regina uses magic to restrain him, versus Regina's face when Cora does it to her:
Henry doesn't look afraid... the wheels in his head are already turning, planning his next move. Rightfully, he should be terrified, because magic has only been in Storybrooke for like a day, and he's already witnesses Regina try to kill David with it (with tree branches, even!), and also use it against several people at town hall, but he's not afraid, because that's his mom and she won't hurt him and he knows it
Regina has grown up around magic her whole life, and the second her mother uses it on her, she gets scared, and when she tries to argue, Cora doubles down on the magic restraints and Regina immediately capitulates. She is terrified of her mother, and she has no reason to believe her mother won't actually hurt her.
Also, not only is Henry not afraid of Regina, she also can't manipulate him the way that Cora manipulated her, because he already knows he's the most important thing in her life and the only person that she loves or even remotely cares about. He's all she has and he knows it, and he doesn't have to do anything to appease her to try to earn her love, because he already has it, and he knows there's really nothing he can do to make her stop loving him.
Regina grew up with a mother who didn't love her, and it made her desperate for Cora's approval, which made it so easy for Cora to lie to Regina and manipulate her. She had to act a certain way and hide her true self from her mother, because she was trying to earn her mother's love, which was an impossible task (but she didn't know that at the time, obviously).
Like, imagine a teenage Henry in Regina's position, in love with someone his mother didn't approve of, engaged to be married into royalty and power, and Regina had caught him about to run away and adamantly opposed it, but then suddenly appeared to have a change of heart... Henry would have seen through that act in a second, but Regina couldn't see through her mother's lies because she didn't want to... it's like how Henry says "she wants to believe it, so she does", when explaining why Regina believes him when he lies to her... she wants to believe that her mother was capable of loving her, so she did, and having that faith in Cora always ended up costing her in the end
(And, I mean, obviously Henry would never be in the same situation as Regina because even if she didn't approve of who he wanted to be with, she would accept it because she loves Henry and truly does want him to be happy, which is something Cora never wanted for Regina)
(also, for the record, this is why Henry is good at manipulating Regina as well, because she will believe anything he tells her when it's what she wants to hear)
It's actually amazing that Regina did become a good mother, since she had no examples of good parenting herself... yes, her father loved her, but he never protected her. He couldn't have stopped Cora, but he never even tried... he let his daughter suffer while he stood by and watched.
David couldn't have stopped Regina if she'd used magic on him when he went to get Henry, but that didn't stop him from kicking her door open and running in there with his sword... she could have roasted him on the spot and he knew it, but he risked it anyway to protect Henry.
... anyway, just another example of how A&E accidentally wrote a better story than they'd originally planned, because they accidentally set believable ground work for Regal Believer and Regina's path to redemption, which I don't believe was their original plan. I know Lana asked for a better relationship between Regina and Henry in season 2, because she was worried it would come across as anti-adoption to have the adoptive mother be evil, and the birthmother to be the hero that rescues the child, but I'm not sure they ever intended to redeem Regina at all, tbh.
Either way, the one thing that doesn't fit is when Emma asks "do you love him?" and Regina says "of course I love him" with no emotion on her face, and slams the door, and then you see this look of realization on Emma's face, and she decides to stay in Storybrooke... they can try to say that Regina always loved Henry, but that scene clearly was meant to be interpreted as Regina lied, and Emma knew it and that's why she stayed. There is no other plausible explanation for why she decided to stay after that.
And that's why I say they accidentally laid the ground work, because the story they were trying to write, clearly, was that Regina was just evil and didn't actually love Henry, but they accidentally wrote Henry in a way that he could have only been, if he had grown up with a mother that loved him.
sometimes i think about gay people who lived centuries ago who thought they were all alone who imagined a world where they could live openly as themselves who met in secret spoke in code defied everything and everyone just to exist and i’m like..i gotta sit down. whew i gotta sit down
If this little book should see the light after its 100 years of entombment, I would like its readers to know that the author was a lover of her own sex and devoted the best years of her life in striving for the political equality and social and moral elevation of women.
“The Great Geysers of California” by Laura De Force Gordon, 1879, unearthed from a 100-year-old time capsule in San Francisco, 1979.
“Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all our letters could be published in the future in a more enlightened time. Then all the world could see how in love we are.”

Hello! I really appreciate all your work and Quirk analyses and I'm curious: Do you have any most/least favorite moments/Quirks? Thank you and have a great day!
I feel like I've already been plenty negative about the story at it's low point, so I'll talk about my favorites moments.
You Can Be A Hero: An amazing, yet simple ending statement to a strong first chapter. After how much Izuku struggled through out his life, told at every point possible that his dreams mean nothing, it feels like such a relief to have All Might say those few simple words. An idea that resonates through out the series.
Stain's Speech: While I don't think that Stain revolutionized MHA like many fans, I cannot deny just how impactful this moment was. Stain revealing his goals and the rotten core at the heart of society that he was fighting against. It was such a tone shift and gave us a good idea of where the story was going to go from here.
Izuku and Bakugou's Confrontation: While by no means my favorite fight, I do like a lot of the character work that comes from Izuku and Bakugou's unsanctioned fight. Finally breaking down the barrier these two have had and fundamentally changing their dynamic. It's such an emotionally rewarding moment as a reader.
Tomura's Awakening: While I am very critical of the MLA Arc, seeing Tomura finally grow and evolve through out it was fascinating and a definate highlight. You really got a great understanding for Tomura as a character. It's to the point where you're excited to see him come out on top in spite of what it means for the world at large.
Dabi Dance: I'm including it because of just how big it was. A long time fan theory had finally been revealed and destroyed the readers. Dabi has suddenly become one of the most fun and interesting characters in the cast, shedding his pretty boring persona. That's not even mentioning how viral it all went outside the fanbase.
Uraraka's Speech: Uraraka's Speech to the crowd is so important to the story and I'm sick of fans down playing it. It's the thing that really saved Izuku from his downward spiral, more then any other character in the stroy, and helped push the idea of being the heroes to the heroes and helping each other however they can.
Heroes' Charge: Look, is all the heroes gathering together to beat All For One cheesy? A little, yes, but I am all here for it. I'm such a sucker for these team up charges, with each person helping the hero. It's a good punctuation to everything the story has been setting up of people working together to stop the source of society's issues.
Izuku and Tomura's Talk: The final moments between these two. This is such a simple interaction between the two, but I like it because there are so many ways it could have gone wrong. But I think it does a great job of getting the two to talk without either side conceding to the other. It's a lot more of a nuanced way to wrap up these two stories.
So I've wondered for a while if "Decay" was the destructive part of "Overhaul", what would the other half of it be like? Like if "Decay" is the dissembling without the control, what would the reassembling look like?
Quirk: Restore
This Emitter type Quirk allows the user to rebuild and restore materials they come into contact with all five of their fingers. This process will return the target to pristine condition. This can effect anything to a small rag to even parts of a building that has been damaged. For example, touching a broken scrap of metal could cause broken cracks to reseal and bend back into proper position. This can even pull back damaged pieces into their original place. This can be used on both organic and inorganic targets, meaning that it can work on people. This healing can let the user fix up things like small cuts to missing body parts. This gives the user an amazing tool for support, able to fix anything they can get their hands on. They can heal their allies from harm, undo the effects of Quirks on people, take care of injured civilians, restore damages done after fights, or just try to fix stuff around the house. However, this Quirk has no real method to harm anyone or do anything outside of its limited scope, only working to restore something that has been damaged. This relies on the user being able to touch the target, so they can't restore anything that's been burned to ashes or interact with non-solids like blood.

I've always had this idea in my back pocket for how a lucky Quirk would work. Never got the chance to share it so I'll just do it now.
Quirk: Lucky Break
This Emitter type Quirk allows the user to produce a subconscious, micro-telekinetic barrier around their body. This barrier works to subtly adjust things around the user to work in their favor based on their own wants and desires. This barrier only effects things in small ways, like slightly adjusting the user's movements, and only travels up to a foot from the user. However, these small adjustments are both quick and responsive, such as causing a bullet to slightly curve away from the user to keep it from hitting them or moving the user's fist in order to make contact with their target. This gives the user an unusual amount of control over their situation, the Quirk helping them in ways they could never understand. They can suddenly get out of the way of attacks, land a lucky strike on an enemy, keep the user safe from random threats, mess with people as their efforts get undermined, or just crush people in games of chance. Though the user has no real control over the Quirk or its functions. The Quirk can still be overloaded and stop working, meaning that the user can't always have it on and it can be broken through. The Quirk cannot target anything that is not nearby the user or make any major changes to their circumstances.
This is a Quirk I have been thinking about, even before I started the blog. I hope you like it.
Quirk: Kingdom
This Transformation type Quirk allows the user to alter their body with animal parts based on DNA samples they are making contact with. This additions are made far more powerful, becoming comparable to those with similar Animal Mutation Quirks. The more of the sample the user has, the more of their body they can change into the animal. The user can be selective with the traits they take on. For example, having a shark tooth necklace, alligator boots and a snake skin jacket, could give them shark teeth, a giant gator mouth, and venom from the snake. These changes can form at any point on their body, such as making the head of a gator pop out of their stomach to bite someone. With enough of the material, the user can turn into the animal in question, like a cloak of raven feathers letting them become a raven. This gives the user a versatile ability, able to alter themselves to become an apex predator. They can adapt to their environment, mix and match animal parts together, swap up their combat style on the fly, sneak around as other animals, or just come out as a horrific abominations. Though the user needs the material on hand in order to transform their body and enough of it to make greater changes to their body. The Quirk will struggle to use and combine too many animal forms, especially drastically distinct ones.
