the idea that women's sports are a gay paradise bereft of tension is problematic not just because it obscures other tensions (race, class, gender, labor, etc) but because it isn't true. wrt women's hockey specifically, all you need is a cursory knowledge of the player base to understand that a large chunk of it is composed of heterosexual conservative christian women.

and i'm sure all the gay players who were basically forced to go to religious schools bc those were some of the only options for high-level girls' hockey development experienced zero homophobia đ
