I really like the concept of "(doomed) soulmates who find each other again in every life"! Perhaps Doffy and Rosi don't even get reborn as brothers in every run, but their souls are so interwoven that they always end up crossing paths somehow (and end up as the cause for another reincarnation).

Also, I'm fond of the idea of Rosi trying to take both Doffy and himself down...he's wiling to give his own life if it means saving other's from his brother's madness, but at the same time his own life would be miserable with the knowledge of having killed Doffy, so the only option is to perform (lover's) su*c*de...

the AUs I like to think of are a wild mix of different things and always changing settings, depending on how well they fit the scenario I wanna see - sometimes more aligning with canon and sometimes less lol

for the modern AUs, I usually imagine that they stayed with each other after their family's ruin and that Doffy basically became Rosi's guardian, big brother, mother (and girlfriend) all in one this not only led Rosi to become heavily dependent on Doffy, but also vice versa - Rosi became Doffy's emotional crutch, a stuffed toy to cling to and reminiscence about the happy family life of the past that was so cruelly taken from him. think a mother that poured all her love and life into her one child and eventhough they have become an adult now can't let go of them. that's sort of how I see their relationship (...just with many, many more layers of fucked up stuff)

Would Doffy be the same in an AU where the Donquixote parents are alive and could properly raise their 2 sons? Probably! Doffy has a natural drive to protect his family. I think his obsession wouldn't be as extreme, but he'd still be highly protective over his baby brother.

I guess the one constant in all of the AUs is how much of a brocon Doffy is for Rosi (as can be seen in exhibit A:)

but Rosi himself isn't just a helpless victim of his big brother's obsessive love either, deep down he too is a brocon… (exhibit B):

LMAO I can totally see Doffy doing that and sabotaging Rosi's jobs! so frequently in fact that Rosi will just give up at some point, believing he's a failure and it leads him to go cry into big brother's chest, because Doffy's the only one who always has his back. that's what family is for, isn't it…
