Autism Speaks seems intent on finding a cure, and is awful when it comes to their treatment of autistic people, treating autism like a monster that destroys families

Many autistic people don’t want a cure: Sure, there’s some that do, but there’s a lot that don’t. And they would prefer more understanding of autism than a cure for it

If you’re a neurotypical relative, don’t make it all about yourself: So many “Autism Parents” out there make posts taking about how hard autism is for them, without seemingly giving much thought to their child, and they get angry when autistic people correct them. Yes, autism can be tough, but I can guarantee that it’s going to be a lot more difficult for them, especially if you refuse to understand and listen to us

Listen to autistic people: This one should be obvious, but so many people don’t do this. Sometimes autistic people get told they’re “not autistic enough” or “not that autistic” when they’re trying to talk about their own experiences. If you want to understand autism, we’re the best people to come to

If you had the old code, or if the bottom of your ask box is cut off, you’ll need to redo the steps with the new code or simply find height=”149” in the code and change it to height=”190”

Make sure your Ask Box is enabled. (under settings, which is the wrench icon next to the log out button)

Go to your customize page.

Click the pages tab, then click add a page or edit your existing FAQ page.

Click the HTML button where all the markup buttons are. (ie. bold, italic, strikeout)

Copy and paste this code below where you like in the window that opens when you clicked the HTML button. 

Change the part that says URL to your own url. eg.  http://www.tumblr.com/ask_form/URL.tumblr.com into http://www.tumblr.com/ask_form/a-pocketful.tumblr.com

Press ‘Update’ and the ask box should appear.

Press ‘Save page’ and you’re done.

So now you have your custom ask page, but because you still have a link to your original page page you have two links and only want one?

Go to the customise page.

Click on the button that says Edit HTML, next to Custom theme.

Search (using ctrl+f/command+f) for /ask.

You will find a line in the html code that goes along the lines of <a href=”/ask”>ask</a>. Note this may be different depending on your theme, but as long as it looks similar to <a …. href=”/ask”> …. </a>

You can either remove that line altogether to get rid of the link, or you can change the part that says /ask to your chosen page url of your custom ask page (eg /faq or /message or whatever you chose) so that it may say something like <a href=”/faq”>ask+faq</a> instead.

Save and you’re done.

If the code doesn’t work then MAKE SURE that you retype all the quotation marks (“) and apostrophes (‘) in the code. There is a total of 16 quotation marks ( ” ) and 2 apostrophes ( ’ ).

YOU NEED TO HAVE YOUR ASK BOX ENABLED

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE THE LINK IN THE CODE TO YOUR OWN URL! Just to make sure it works, send a little test message to yourself using your new ask box and if you don’t get it, then look back and make sure everything is right.

Whenever you change your url, you’ll need to edit your page and update the url in the code.

Firstly, cats stim. They purr, swish their tails and knead their paws against pillows, blankets, and other soft things. Many cats actively seek out sensory experiences, like listening to birds singing, lying in a sunbeam, rolling against the grass, etc.

Cats have sensory sensitivities— many of them dislike walking on certain flooring, touching certain textures, and certain smells or sounds may make them anxious. Their fur is very sensitive, they can sense the lightest touch, or speck of lint, or dust and their skin will quiver until they can lick or rub it off. When they become overstimulated cats retreat into a small, dark place to recover.

Cats love routine. Many cats know the exact time that their owners wake up in the morning and will wake them. A cat with a routine is a happy cat— they love to have their meals or soft food on a schedule and will learn their owner’s schedule. Cats will become anxious when the schedule is disrupted or if their owner doesn’t follow their usual routine.

In the same vein cats are very wary and/or anxious when it comes to the introduction of new things or people into their environment. Cats require time and patience to get used to anything or anyone newly introduced. Cats also feel anxious when existing furniture is rearranged or when a new smell (like an air freshener) is introduced into the home.

Cats often have “special interests”, a particular activity or thing that they love and can spend hours enjoying. It could be playing with a particular toy, chewing on something, listening to the radio, or watching the clothes in the washing machine. My cat Kitty has a certain ball that she fixates on and will happily enjoy and obsess over for hours.

Finally, cats have a very distinct and subtle body language. The difference is particularly evident when compared with the exuberant, unsubtle dog. The slightest twitch of a tail or turn of the ears, the frequency and timing of blinks, and the positioning of the tail in relation to the body are all little movements that can express much. To the untrained eye it may appear as if a cat is bored, aloof, or unaware of its surroundings. But once you learn to recognize cat body language and understand cat communication, you’ll be amazed at the depth of emotion and how expressive your cat really is.
