First images from James Webb exceed all expectations

The new image released by the groundbreaking James Webb telescope is its clearest one yet, showing a bright star and distant galaxies.

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has hit a critical milestone in its mirror alignment and NASA says it is performing at or above expectations. The highly touted space telescope captured an image last week that excited its operators here on Earth.

JWST completed the critical milestone in its mirror alignment of the Optical Telescope Element (OTE), in a process known as "fine phasing". The team reported that there has been no critical issues found thus far, as well as no measurable contamination or blockages to Webb's optical path. At this point, james webb is meeting, or exceeding, expectations. The james webb space telescope is capable of successfully gathering light from distant objects and feeding the data to its instruments with no known issues.
