Banksy Artwork : Climate Change

The graffiti that is shown in the picture was done by Banksy, an England street artist, film director, and political activist. He spraypainted the words, “I DON’T BELIEVE IN GLOBAL WARMING” in all caps on the wall next to Regent’s Canal in Camden, North London, in 2009. The entire reason Bansky did this was because of the irony of what is happening in the picture; it shows the message of being engulfed in water, which is one of the effects of global warming, a rising ocean. Although it was not written by someone who doesn’t believe in global warming, it was a message to those people directly to open their eyes to reality.

The symbol from the image you see above, which is from the Banksy artwork, "FROM THIS MOMENT DESPAIR ENDS AND TACTICS BEGIN", respresents the Extinction Rebellion. The goal of the Extinction Rebellion wants the government to declare a "climate and ecological emergency" and for them to take immediate action. However the Extinction Rebellion is a global enviromental movement of using non violent disobediance to persuade goverment action which is why it was the seed, so it could grow into something bigger.

The artwork above, done by Banksy, has a very generalized meaning when it comes to sending a message about climate change. However its location is also very broad, this artwork was painted in Central London at the Marble Arch Landmark. I believe that the choice of location for the artwork was made in the center of London because of the massive effect the climate change has on London. There have been higher tempatures and it is said that London would be effected most when it comes to global warming.

The artwork above, depicts one of my earlier posts on this site, however the meaning behind its location, means much more. Banksy made it on the corner of a garage in Port Talbot, United Kingdom, this city is the most polluted city in the UK at 18 micrograms of air particles per cubic meter. With this information, it is clear to say that Banksy's choice for his artwork is very fitting with this exact location.

The picture above is not a direct piece of artwork by Banksy, however it is the exact location where he wrote, "I DON'T BELIEVE IN GLOBAL WARMING" in red caps on the side of the walls in Regent's Canal in Camden, North London. Banksy's choice of location is never on accident, this location shown above has had its fair share of flooding for a long time; and the reason for these floods is due to the climate breakdown and an increase in urbanization which is the exact reason as to why banksy has chosen this spot.

The artwork in the photo was painted by none other than Banksy; it was found on a broken-down container on a beach in Dungeness, Kent. It was actually the second "petrol vulture" that was painted on the container, as the first one was stolen just a few days after it was made. However, Banksy returned to the same container just a few days later to repaint it, but this time the bird was shown in flight rather than sitting on a branch. Yet again, it did not survive any longer because it was defaced by locals looking for attention, but it was soon salvaged and retired, as shown in the picture.

In the picture, you can see a bird with its head as a gas pump, the graffiti is called the gas bird, which I posted about in one of my earler posts. However the meaning behind it means much more, Banksy wanted the head of the bird to be a petrol pump to attack the oil industry for destroying wildlife with the considerable amount of oil spills in recent decades.

The graffiti shown in the picture was painted by none other than Banksy; the artwork symbolizes climate change, more specifically, air pollution; it depicts a kid playing with "snow," but when you turn the corner, you realize that this "snow" is really debris coming from the flaming dumpster fire. Banksy painted this because of air pollution's effect on the planet, considering there has been an increase in greenhouse gas pollution that traps excess heat and causes a warmer climate. This piece of artwork by Banksy shows the truth of global warming and is a sign to those who do not believe in the harmful effects we have on the planet.

Another great piece of artwork done by Banksy; this time the mural appeared in Central London at the Marble Arch landmark on a concrete block, where protestors have set up camp. The mural shows a child planting a seed while holding up a sign with the symbol of the Extinction Rebellion on it. The Extinction Rebellion is a new group drawing attention to the government's lack of action using civil obedience; the words "FROM THIS MOMENT DESPAIR ENDS AND TACTICS BEGIN" are painted alongside. The streets of London were packed with activists demanding that their government change the amount of greenhouse gas emissions by 2025. Banksy has not confirmed if this was his work, but experts say that "this is a Banksy."

The art above, painted by Banksy, depicts a small boy that has just painted the words, "I remember when all this was trees," in Detroit, Michigan, on a wall of a broken-down building that used to be the Packard automobile plant. Its message was for the city's ongoing economic and social hardship, which has been going on for decades. In a more straightforward description of the mural, before anything was built in its place, it used to be trees, but the loss of nature and mass deforestation has left Detroit to turn to dust and rubble. It was preserved for some time by avoiding the wrecking ball, but now it is at auction at Los Angele's Julien's Auctions for $200,000 to $400,000. However, it was sold for $137,000, which was surprisingly disappointing at the time.
