Easter 2018
4/1/18: Happy Easter, Happy April Foolās day...so Iām dreading getting out to do my 14 miles today...because I am afraid.Ā I had a DNF last weekend at around mile 7, due to chest pains which were caused by my thyroid med being too high...multiple EKGs showed everything was normal once I stopped running.Ā I had run 10 miles just the weekend before (Iām training of a full in May so that is why I wasnāt tapering), with no issues.Ā I know I can do this, but for some reason I am afraid.Ā Maybe my head is a mess as it is the first Easter w/o my mom, the anniversary of my fatherās death 42 years ago...plus Iām so tired of lousy weather: I miss sunshine!Ā However, once I get it done, no matter how long it takes me; Iām sure my confidence will come back!
Hereās to everyone struggling with self doubt and fear...yet getting out there anyway!
3/25/2018: Itās been awhile...
Looking back at my posts on this blog, it seems like I was either excited because a training run went well, or defeated when one went badly.Ā My goal was to try to inspire others while having an online diary as I journeyed to my own running goals, donāt think I was quite inspiring...and I havenāt blogged in months.Ā I started running to cope with my crushing grief, and found out I liked it.Ā Now Iām running through grief again...hopefully I can be more encouraging or at least more real besides either celebrating or whining, depending on how my run for that day went.Ā Oh yeah, had my first DNF today during Philly Love Run Half...more on that next time.Ā Stay strong, my friends, even if you doānt feel strong.

Greetings!Ā Iāve been neglecting this blog for quite some time this year...been a tough year of running.Ā I completed Cleveland Marathon on May 21 and my official time was still about 17 minutes faster than the first time I ran it but I also sprained my Rt ankle at some point during the race (Iām guessing around miles 14-16) so that injury knocked me out of running Buffalo this year.
Tomorrow starts my fall half marathon training as Iām hoping my ankle is finally healed, Iāve been walking/elliptical without pain so Iāll know more tomorrow when I go for my first training run, fingers crossed it goes well!Ā Iāve got a slew of races this fall and Iāve already registered for Buffalo Marathon 2018...however Iām done with the Cleveland race...thatās a story for another post.
Thank you anyone who is still following me!Ā Letās get ready for fall race season in good health and injury free!
2/13/2017
Well, another month of GI distress and the flu knocking me off my training program...however Iām determined to keep at it and still be ready (somehow) for Cleveland on May 21, then Buffalo May 28!Ā How are you doing getting to your fitness goals?Ā Iād love to hear your stories!
1/21/2017
I donāt think Iāve ever been more excited to run six miles! Iāve been dealing with an undetermined GI issue for almost two months now, and my running has been greatly affected due to pain levels. Today I decided I was getting a long run in, as I have two marathons in May and Iām getting behind on miles! So I ran, super slowlyā¦and was fine till mile 4, where chills set in, around mile 5.5 the pain set inā¦however I made it to 6 miles regardless!! Hereās the best part: I could have kept going had the pain not set in!! That tells me Iām not losing my endurance as much as I fearedā¦so yay 6 miles!!
Wish me luck as I go for more tests Monday!

Happy New Yearās Eve!Ā I have finally registered for Buffalo Marathon (and 5k) today!
I have been battling a nasty gut infection since around Thanksgiving, but Iām finally on the mend so Iāll be running again soon!Ā Iām beyond excited to run these two huge races....and even more excited my sister will join my niece and I for the 8K the day before Cleveland!Ā Wishing everyone who still follows my little running blog a Happy, healthy New Year...and I encourage everyone to challenge themselves next year!

Wow it has been a while since Iāve posted in this blog!Ā Maybe because things have been so difficult the past few months...an impossible work schedule, finding out my mom has AML, my own health struggles...yeah I guess thatās what happened to me!Ā However, it is Thanksgiving weekend, and I am now getting back on track and reclaiming what I can of myself!
I have been run-walking the last two days, 2 miles on Friday, a 5K today, and it feels great to be at it again, albeit very slow and very beginner!Ā I have registered for the Challenge Series for the 2017 Cleveland Marathon in May: running an 8K with my niece on Sat, then a full marathon on Sunday!Ā My plan, if finances allow, is to then run the Buffalo Marathon the following weekend!Ā I really need to see if I can push and be that successful!Ā Hereās to getting started!
Anyone else setting big fitness goals for themselves for next year?
8/23/16
I hadnāt realized it has been so long since I last posted in my running blog!Ā Perhaps this is partly because my training for Rock n Roll Philly over the past couple of months has been terrible, at best. My health has not been the best due to my never ending thyroid issue and thus everything has suffered.Ā
However I had a great visit with my endo and since my levels have plummeted we made some adjustments in my thyroid meds and I should be back on track very soon!Ā I certainly hope so, as RNR Philly is less than a month away!
Wish me luck and stay strong, lovely people!
April 30- May 1
Pittsburgh Marathon weekend!!!
Usually I donāt post pics of myself (and never of me running), but Iām so proud of myself this weekend I will suspend my body-image-self-hatred for once and post!Ā I ran the 5K with my niece, in which she was finally able to run her first 5K the whole way, and ran it well she did!Ā I then ran the full marathon the next day.Ā This was my second ever marathon, and Iām beyond excited that not only did I run the whole thing without walk breaks, I PRd by almost an hour over last year, finishing in 5 hours, 46 min!!!!
This course was so beautiful!Ā The crowd support was fantastic...even a local greyhound rescue group had the dogs out and they were running little portions of the race with us!Ā The weather was overcast and cool until about the last mile, so I couldnāt ask for better race day weather!Ā A local running store had staff on the course as well to run with you (if you wanted the company, which I always do!) up the monster hill at mile 12...such a great idea! (Although Iāve run bigger hills in the Lehigh Valley, so it wasnāt as bad as I expected) Ā One house had mimosas going at 8am for anyone wanted to step off course to partake (tempting as it was, I kept going and passed on it)!
Once again, my family was there at the finish cheering for me, and my bf came onto the course briefly to run with me a bit...such an emotional day for me Iām tearing up now thinking about it!Ā
The whole point of starting a running blog was to try and inspire other people to try something new and challenging: as for me being a heavy lady running marathons is something I never thought I could do before!Ā Well, now Iāve run two and Iām already planning next yearās big event...running both Cleveland AND Pittsburgh since they are about two weeks apart!Ā Anyone care to join me??Ā Be inspired, folks!Ā If THIS overweight, forty-something lady with thyroid problems and the associated fatigue and other symptoms can run a marathon, so can you!!Ā Thank you all who follow my little postings!! Love to you all!
St. Lukeās was a huge success!!Ā I know Iām way late on posting about it,,,but better late than never, eh?
I canāt describe how good this run felt!Ā I wanted to take it easy, considering I am running the Pittsburgh Steel Challenge the very next weekend, but my nerves took over as I was afraid of not completing the course in the 3 hour time limit and I set a new PR for my 10K and my half!!Ā For me this is a big improvement!Ā The weather was perfect, my bf was there to cheer me on and run with me at the finish!Ā Considering the worst part of my race was almost forgetting to turn my Garmin on (for some reason running under the āStartā sign didnāt clue me into the fact the race had started?! lol nerves!), I couldnāt be happier!Ā This may be my last event for Team in Training since they are more focused on national events in which participants must pledge to raise close to $2,000 (more than I can successfully raise), so Iām glad I ran so well for Team!
Love this!!!

ugh I'm so glad you have this blog. sorry I'm anon just a shy guy. but yeah ppl have silly ideas about running and age. and 40 is young. it's ridiculous how brainwashed many Americans and Canadians are about our prime being somehow over after 27. anyway...tangent. definitely look forward to reading your progress on running. inspiring !
Hello, and thank you for your kind words!!Ā No need to be shy, Iām pretty harmless (but do whatever makes you comfortable)!Ā Yes, I āsurvivedā my first marathon at 40 and overweight...this year while still heavy Iām making a lot of progress for my next marathon (in just over a week)! Yes we are a youth-obsessed culture in the States, but that doesnāt mean folks over 40 canāt still achieve great victories! Iām glad I can inspire you!Ā Keep running and thank you again for your support!!
4/21/16
You know youāre a runner when you burn a vacation day in order to get your 22 mile run in!!Ā My apologies for not [posting recently, however work keeps getting in the way of my life! lol
Iāve been worried about my upcoming race weekends as because of my crazy schedule I have not been putting in the miles I think I should be to be prepared for St Lukeās Half this Sunday, and the Steel Challenge next weekend in Pittsburgh (5K on Sat, full marathon on Sunday)!Ā Thus my taking a vacation day yesterday to get my miles in!Ā
Thankfully after yesterdayās run I now feel confident Iām ready for Pittsburgh! I even set a new PR for my half marathon pace, which is three minutes faster than the PR I set over the weekend for the same distance!Ā Iāve averaging about 13.30 per mile for longer distances, which is a huge improvement over my times last year!Ā My progress is slow for sure, but it does happen!Ā Thank you everyone who reads this blog, and always feel free to comment or ask questions! Iāll be posting pictures after St. Lukeās Half this Sunday!
