Day 5 - Arriving in Carlisle we reflect on the missed opportunities to celebrate the 1900 years of black and multicultural histories of Hadrian’s Wall. Where is the outreach to include diverse communities in the celebrations? Day 6 - We hiked Hadrian’s Wall from Wallsend to Bowness on Solway over the last 6 days to celebrate the black and multicultural history along the wall. It’s important to celebrate and recognise we have been and are part of British life for 1900 years. Day 3 - Hiking the Hadrian’s Wall Trail on a beautiful day, celebrating 1900 years of Black History. What’s telling is there is little or no mention on the information boards about the role of the Africans in Roman Britain. Day 4 - Britain has always been ethnically diverse. It’s was an honour to be back in the @councilofeurope @youthcoe Youth Sector and in the European Youth Centre Strasbourg after quite a few years, with a wide circle of friends from the youth sector from the 70’s to now, all of us has been on a journey with the Youth Directorate and had many memories to share and the contributions we have made through a range of activities in the sector and the benefits we gained over the last 50 years and the opportunities it has provided for me since the early 1990s. When I got involved as a placement / stagiaire as part of my youth work degree, getting the placement approved by the college was a battle in itself, but I have never looked back. More importantly it’s the values (Human Rights, Democracy and Rule of Law) that the @Cof E and the Youth Sector have instilled in us and everyone who passes through the youth directorate and the two European Youth Centres in promoting and upholding democracy, human rights and participation. Which is important now more than ever, with the recent events. I’ve have been fortunate to have been part of many discussions and experiences over the years. Youth work is so important in building cohesive societies and one where Equality, Diversity and inclusion, Human Rights and Democracy are at the core in building a peaceful future for the next generation. Looking forward to engaging with the Youth Sector circle of Friends (Alumni), to enhance and to continue to promote this work across Europe and in the UK.
