i don’t care drew gives off such big dick energy and you can’t change my mind. like i fear it’d be monstrous and that’s why he doesn’t wear anything super tight around that region because it’d show him off 😫🙏
funniest part of the whole season was

all im gonna say is im glad the second half of heartless is not really canon bc i literally don’t know how pogue(ish)!fem!reader would react to her brother being dead or finding out that he really wasn’t her biological brother (she would def say that he’s her brother and blood does not define that)

You walked onto the boat that Hollis had told you to meet her on. She had told you that there were others, but she didn’t tell you that they were Rafe Cameron.
“Oh, Ms. Thornton, so glad you could join Mr. Cameron and I.” Hollis smiled, ushering you over to the two of them. “When I asked Mr. Cameron what your choice of drink was and he said a 2004 Chambertin Grand Cru, I knew you were a woman after my own heart.”
You smiled at Hollis, gladly accepting the glass of your favorite wine.
“How did you get this on such short notice?” You asked, taking a sip of the wine.
“Well I couldn’t, unfortunately, but Rafe saved the day when he said he had a bottle in his cellar.”
“Of course he did.” You muttered before taking another sip.
“Well, you’re here for business, let’s get into it.” Hollis said, sitting down, gesturing for you two to join her. You each sat across from her, keeping your distance from one another on the couch.
You listened to her pitch, taking in every word she was saying, ignoring the man that was just a foot away from you who kept looking at you.
“Why us?” Rafe asked, leaning forward as he looked down at the map of Goat Island.
“You’re young, energetic, local.” She responded, looking up at Rafe.
“How much?” You finally asked, leaning back in your seat, crossing one leg over the other as you crossed your arms.
“Two hundred thousand, from each of you. That’s it.” She answered, finally looking at you for the first time since she started her pitch.
“I’ll talk to my partner, see what I can do.” You said, standing from your spot.
“No, no partners, no investors, just you, me, and Mr. Cameron.”
“You want two hundred thousand, of my own money?” You cocked an eyebrow as you ran your eyes over Hollis before glancing towards Rafe who was already looking at you.
“Makes it much easier.” She smirked. “Less paperwork.”
“I’ll see what I can do.” You repeated, before leaving.
You were halfway down the dock when Rafe caught up to you.
“Y/n, wait.” He said, calling out for you. You stopped and turned around. “What do you think?”
“You’re asking me for business advice now?” You scoffed and attempted to walk away, but Rafe grabbed your elbow, preventing you from leaving.
“What do you think?” He repeated, looking down at you.
“I don’t think this a good idea.” You sighed, turning back towards Rafe.
“You don’t trust her.” Rafe said, letting go of your elbow, sure you wouldn’t take off this time before putting his hands in his pockets.
“No, I don’t.” You responded, honestly. “I mean, two hundred thousand dollars, Rafe? I would give her maybe a hundred dollars before I trusted her. And who are these other investors she’s talking about?”
“Goat Island is a good piece of property.”
“I get that, I do. But, my gut is telling me not to trust this. We know nothing about her other than she used to work for your dad and that she was married to Mr. Robinson.”
“And she’s the island cougar.” Rafe joked, a smirk forming on his face.
“Yeah, you’re probably her next victim.” You returned, crossing your arms at an attempt to remain warm as the cold air of the night wrapped itself around you. “But you wouldn’t do that to your girlfriend, or your not girlfriend. I don’t know, you have me very confused about that.”
“Enough.” Rafe said, telling you to knock off the bullshit.
“Look, come to my office tomorrow, we’ll talk about it. All I’m saying is, don’t say yes, don’t sign anything. We’ll talk about it tomorrow.”
♡♡♡
You sat in your new office, looking over a contract your partner, Mark, had sent you when your assistant knocked on the door and let herself in.
“Ms. Thornton, Mr. Cameron is here.” She said, standing in the doorway.
“Send him in, I guess.” You sighed, closing the contract, before you sent a text to him saying you would read over it later.
“An assistant, very high end of you.” Rafe said when he came in and Lily, your assistant, closed the door behind him.
“She’s more like a friend who handles the things I don’t want to deal with, she’s older than I am.” You responded, standing up and moving to sit next to Rafe at the chairs in front of your desk.
“And an office? Was the office necessary?”
“Are we gonna talk about this or not?” You asked Rafe, starting to get annoyed.
“Alright, alright.”
“Look, I’ve been taking a look into Goat Island, they aren’t asking for a lot.”
“What’s not a lot?”
“One point four.”
“That’s a lot for a haunted island, y/n.” Rafe sighed, sitting back in his chair.
“You’ve spent more before. Besides that much for an entire island? Come on, you can’t tell me this isn’t a good deal.”
“What about Hollis and her investors that she supposedly has?”
“We go in and make an offer for five, no way Hollis can beat that.”
“And if she can?”
“She won’t. I mean, come on Rafe, the woman lives on a boat. Look, we can do this, just you and me.”
“The last time you said that to me, you left me in the dust after six months.” Rafe muttered, looking down at his hands.
You looked away from Rafe, guilt slightly starting to creep in on you. Of course you had thought about the what if of it all. What if you never left him, would he still have done half the shit he did? Could you have talked him out of it? Could you have gotten him the help he needed?
“You know we can’t talk about that Rafe, not now.” You said quietly, looking down at your own hands now.
“Why not?”
“Because, we’re here to talk about business.”
“Is that all you’re about now? Business?”
“Yes, Rafe, because I’m not seventeen years old pining after you like you’re all I need in life, not anymore. I mean I’ve moved on, you’ve clearly moved on. What is there to talk about?”
“You don’t get to decide if I’ve moved on or not.”
“I’m sorry.” You chuckled. “But, last I checked, you have a girlfriend who lives with you. Seems to me like you’ve moved on.”
“How many times do I have to tell you I don’t have a girlfriend?”
“Rafe, stop lying to yourself. Sofia is with you every where you go, she lives in your house, and I know that means you’re sleeping in the same bed.” You could start to feel the anger and jealously settle in your throat, every word that you’ve held back threatening to come out. “Whatever, whatever that’s not what we’re here to talk about. Do you want to do this or not?”
“I’ll think about it.” Rafe said, before getting up and leaving.
♡♡♡
“Not having fun?” Topper asked, coming up to you at the party. You stood around with a drink in your hand, staring at your phone.
“I have like no friends here, Top.” You sighed, shoving your phone in your pocket. You promised yourself you would put work aside and come have a little fun, but all you could think about was work and that contract, which led to you thinking about your conversation with Rafe from earlier.
“That’s not true. You have me, Kelce, and Rafe.” You sent him a knowing glance, taking a sip of your beer.
“Kelce has been trying to hook up with me for the last five years, you’re busy with that bitch of a girlfriend, and you know why I’m not talking to Rafe.”
“Come on, you’re gonna let a pogue take your man?” You could smell the alcohol radiating off of Topper, wanting to get as far away from him as possible. “And besides that’s not what I heard. Rafe told me you two had a meeting today at your office.”
“Ew, why’d you say meeting like that?”
“I didn’t say it any way.”
“Yes you did, Topper. Why are you being weird?”
“I’m not being weird.”
“Yes, you are. What did Rafe say to you?”
“Just that you two had a meeting to deal with business, that’s all.”
“I’ll see you later, Top.” You muttered when your eyes locked onto Rafe who was standing next to Sofia, talking to her with a smile plastered on his face. You walked over to the two of them with your head held high, putting your beer down on some random table.
“Hi Sofia.” You said with a polite smile. “I need to talk to you, now.” You turned to Rafe and your smile dropped.
“Sorry, baby, business.” He apologized to Sofia and the nickname made your jaw clench, because that’s what he used to call you. You used to be his baby, so the fact that he was calling the help baby just fueled whatever rage was burning inside you. You weren’t even sure if it was rage anymore or just flat out jealousy.
You grabbed Rafe’s arm and pulled him away from everyone, dropping it once you were out of ear range from the closest person.
“What did you tell Topper about our meeting?” You asked, glaring up at Rafe as you crossed your arms.
“Just that we had a meeting and it was all business.” He answered, with a smirk.
“Really? That’s all you said?”
“Yes, y/n, fuck.”
“Because he’s acting like there’s a chance you and I are getting back together.”
“Is there?”
“Not a single fucking chance.” You chuckled.
“Right.” Rafe nodded, with that stupid smirk still on his face that you just wanted to slap off.
“Don’t say it like that.”
“Like what?”
“Like I’m fucking lying!” You said, raising your voice a little. You looked around to make sure nobody was watching and lowered your voice again. “How many times do I have to tell you we are never happening again?”
“Until you tell me the truth about how you really feel.”
“I am not having this conversation when your girlfriend is fifty feet away. And especially not at a party, Rafe.”
“Then when would you like to have this conversation? Because if our conversation doesn’t have anything to do with business, then you avoid me like the damn plague.”
“That-that is not true.”
“Really? You think I don’t see when you hide from me at the club? Or when we’re at a party and you stay on the opposite side of the party to avoid me all night?”
“God, Rafe, why do you care? Aren’t our lives so much easier when we aren’t interacting?”
“No, y/n. You know before we started dating I enjoyed your presence, I thrived off your presence. You were like sunshine breaking through on a cloudy day.”
“We’ve literally fought every day since we’ve known each other.”
“Please y/n, you know that was all bullshit. That was how we communicated.”
“Whatever, Rafe, you can believe what you want to believe, but I know the truth.”
“See, that’s where you’re wrong. You think you know the truth but you’re too fucking scared to let yourself see the real truth.”
“And what’s that, Rafe?”
“That you might actually still have feelings for me and I might still have feelings for you.”
“I-I can’t have this conversation with you right now.” You said before walking away.
You knew coming home was a bad idea. You knew all of this bullshit would get stirred up again. But, something pulled you back here. You didn’t know if it was Rafe, or the million business opportunities, or your brother, hell even John B, not that you would go there now, because John B had Sarah and Sarah had John B. You tried to convince yourself you were back home for one reason, and one reason only, business. But, it was starting to become harder and harder to believe that as the days went on.

You stepped off your family’s private jet at the Kildare airport. The strong smell of salt and sea water hitting you like a train. The last time you were at this airport you saw your then-boyfriend, Rafe Cameron, kill Sheriff Peterkin.
Two years earlier…
“What did you do Rafe?” You said breathlessly as you ran into the Cameron estate.
“I-I had to, baby, you saw what was happening. She was gonna get my dad.” Rafe said, pacing around. He looked crazy. You always knew there was something different about your boyfriend, but you didn’t think he was capable of murder. “I-I needed to save my dad.”
That was the last time you saw him. After that, you stayed in The Cut, didn’t go anywhere you knew where he would be, you stopped helping John B and JJ with the hunt for the gold, you basically became a recluse until you left for school.
Everyone had kept you up to date on their adventures. You even let them stay at your family’s house in Barbados when they needed some place to stay.
After settling in at your mom’s house, you quickly made the drive to the newly established Poguelandia.
“Y/n.” Sarah cheered with a smile, running over to you. You quickly hugged her as the two of you jumped up and down, smiles plastered across your faces. It felt like suddenly you were sixteen years old again, seeing your best friend after you were in Europe for the summer.
You thought you were going to cry when you saw your brother. You left Sarah’s side and ran over to him, practically tackling him to the ground as you hugged him.
“You know, I expected the first hug, but the second one is fine too.” JJ joked, returning your hug. His voice was like music to your ears. It broke your heart to leave him here on Kildare, but you needed to get out of here, away from everything and everyone.
“You are never hunting for gold, ever again.” You warned, pointing your finger at him. “I’ve never been so worried in my life when my mom called to tell me you were a missing person. She came and got you right? From the airport.”
“Yeah, yeah.” He answered, nodding his head. “She actually let me crash at her place for a while.”
“Good.” You smiled before walking over to John B.
“You know when you left I was pretty certain you were never coming back.” John B said as he hugged you. “You had me pretty worried.”
“Never say never, JB.” You returned the hug with a smile before moving over to hug Kie and Pope. “You must be Cleo.” You smiled towards the girl who you didn’t recognize but had heard plenty about.
Everyone hung out in the backyard and you told them all about your company that was quickly taking off and they told you about the business they started in the backyard.
“So, like, do you have an assistant now?” Sarah asked, knocking her shoulder against yours.
“I do.” You answered, cringing a little. You never imagined having your own assistant, you always thought it was pretentious, but when things started piling up, you realized quickly you would need one.
When the pogues told you about what happened at the Enduro, you felt a fresh wave of anger surge through you. The type of anger you hadn’t felt in a long time. The type of anger only one person has ever been able to bring out in you, Rafe Cameron.
“I’ll see you guys later.” You muttered, standing up and pulling your car keys out of your jean shorts pocket.
You raced to the Cameron estate, typing in the gate code that you had had memorized since you were a kid. You quickly pulled into the driveway once the gate opened and got out of your car, slamming the door shut. You thought about just storming in there like you owned the place, but instead you took a second and knocked on the door politely. You knew that if you pounded on the door, no one would open it, probably terrified.
“Y/n.” Sofia said softly when she opened the door.
“Where is he?” You were fuming. Sofia didn’t know a lot about you, but she knew when you were angry, not to try to stand in your way.
“H-He’s upstairs in his bathroom.” She answered and you pushed past her, before running up the stairs.
You pushed open the door to his bedroom, a room you spent countless nights and hours in, but before you let yourself reminisce, you walked into his bathroom. The bathroom was steamy, Rafe obviously just got out of the shower as he wrapped a towel around his waist. He looked up at the sound of the door opening expecting Sofia, but his smile dropped when he saw you. His eyes raked over you, he thought you looked good, older, more mature. But when his eyes landed on your face, he already knew you were pissed.
“Y/n.” He said cautiously.
“Are you crazy?” You walked over to him and pushed him, but Rafe barely moved. “You could’ve killed him.” Another push. Rafe almost killing JJ wasn’t the only reason you were pushing Rafe, it was like every emotion you had suppressed about Rafe was suddenly bubbling to the surface and threatening to spill over. “Seriously, do you ever think? You told me in that letter you wrote that JJ would be off limits, no matter what.”
“You read my letter?”
“Yes, I read your twenty page letter! But, that doesn’t change anything, Rafe, you still almost killed my fucking brother!”
“Let’s not be overdramatic, I tapped his bike and he fell.”
“Really? You just tapped it? Is that why you both went flying?”
“Oh, I see why you’re so upset, you were worried about me.” Rafe smirked down at you, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Worried about you? Please, Rafe, I haven’t worried about you in two years.” You scoffed, crossing your own arms. But the truth was, you did worry about Rafe. Not about his physical well being, but his sanity. You worried about it every day since he killed Peterkin.
“Right, and that’s why you didn’t send those flowers when my dad died?”
“I-I didn’t send any flowers.” You were lying straight through your teeth. Of course you sent flowers when you heard Ward had died, you wanted Rafe to know you would always be there for him without him knowing it was you.
“Really? Y/n, your signature flower was in the bouquet.” Your face faltered a little, you knew you shouldn’t have put those stupid flowers in the bouquet, but you wanted to do something that showed it was you, even if Rafe didn’t realize it. You never would’ve thought he would remember what your favorite flower was.
“I’m not here to talk about what happened almost two years ago, Rafe, I’m here to talk about yesterday.”
“What happened, happened, y/n, there’s nothing you can do to change it.”
“No, but you can apologize.”
“Apologize? To a pogue?”
“Look, I’m giving you until the end of the night to apologize and if I find out you didn’t, I will ruin your life, Cameron.”
As you turned to leave, Rafe called out saying, “I’ll see you later tonight, Thornton.”
That was your breaking point. The idea that Rafe would show up at your homecoming party with the help hanging off his arm pissed you off to no end. Every emotion you felt coming back here was boiling over and you picked up the closest thing to you, throwing it towards Rafe’s head. But, Rafe ducked before the glass hit his head, smashing against the wall.
With that you turned on your heel and walked out of the Cameron estate, driving just next door to start getting ready for your homecoming party.
“Everything okay?” Sofia asked Rafe, standing in the doorway to the bathroom.
“Everything’s fine.” Rafe responded, a little snappy. “Just an old friend saying hi.”
“An old friend? Or an old girlfriend?”
Sofia knew all about your relationship with Rafe. She would see the two of you at the club, golfing together or playing tennis, grabbing lunch or getting drinks. She saw how happy the two of you looked, until you stopped showing up one day. No more golf or tennis games, no more lunch, no more drinks before going to get dinner at an expensive restaurant. No more you.
That was when she swooped in. She attempted to put Rafe back together piece by piece, but it was like none of the pieces fit each other. Eventually, she just accepted she would never get to experience the love he had with you for herself, just happy that she had Rafe to herself for the time being. In the back of her head she knew you would come back one day, but she just kept that thought locked up, ready to deal with it when the time came. But, now the time has come and she doesn’t know if she’s ready to deal with losing Rafe.
♡♡♡
You walked through your childhood home’s backyard, with a glass of champagne, saying hello to everyone you came across. This was your chance to network on Kildare, gain the clientele and investors you really wanted and needed to start building on Kildare. Your eyes darted over to a table by the house and there he stood, talking to people you had just chatted up. You excused yourself from the table you stood at and made your way over, downing your glass of champagne before putting it on a server’s tray.
“The woman of the hour.” An older man said with a smile, raising his glass towards you, you returned the smile with your own, followed by a quick hello.
“I hope I’m not interrupting anything important.” You laughed politely. “I was just wondering if I could borrow Mr. Cameron here just for a moment.” You put your hand on Rafe’s bicep, looking up at him with the fakest smile you could muster.
“Of course.” The older man responded with a small nod of his head.
“Thank you.” You excused the two of from the table, dropping your hand from Rafe’s arm as you walked in front of him, leading him to the porch, away from everyone so you could have a private conversation. You would’ve gone inside, but the woman of honor could not be seen sneaking inside during her own party, much less with her ex-boyfriend.
“Keep smiling.” You started while plastering a polite, fake smile on your face. “I don’t need them thinking something is wrong. What are you doing here?”
“I told you I was coming.” Rafe smirked down at you, shoving his hands in his dress pants pockets.
“I didn’t think you’d actually show up.”
“I’ll always show up for you.”
“Where’s your girlfriend?” You asked, ignoring Rafe’s comment.
“I don’t have a girlfriend.”
“I don’t know, Rafe, I think you do and I think you’re scared to admit it because you’re scared of what people are going to say when they find out you’ve been sleeping with the help.”
“Sofia is not the help.” He scoffed.
“Really? Because if I remember correctly she used to make us drinks at the club all the time. I mean we would be there and she would be there, but she would be behind the bar serving everyone drinks. Or if we were playing a round of golf she would always be a cart girl, you know now that I think of it, she was always around, wherever you were at the club, she was there ready to help. Sounds like the help to me, oh and a bit stalker-ish. Also, if you could tell her to get off the balcony, she’s dampening the mood of my party.” You pointed to Rafe’s balcony where Sofia stood, scanning the crowd for him, looking like a starved, sad puppy. You grabbed a champagne flute off of a server’s tray and walked back out into the crowd before Rafe could say anything else.
“Ms. Thornton.” A blonde woman said with a smile, stopping you in your path. You recognized her, you just couldn’t place it. “How nice to see you, welcome back to Kildare.”
“Mrs. Robinson.” You greeted her with your own polite smile. “Thank you, it’s so wonderful to be back, I forgot how nice everyone is.”
“You know, I heard you’ve become one of the leaders in the development business lately. I have a fantastic business opportunity for you, if you would love to hear it sometime.”
“I love business opportunities, let me give you my number.”
♡♡♡
“So, did Rafe, ever like apologize to you for knocking you off your bike at the Enduro?” You asked your brother as you sat across from him on your boat. You decided everyone deserved a break from working so hard and invited them on your yacht for the day.
“No.” JJ answered with a confused look on his face. “Why would he ever apologize for doing something like that?”
“No reason.” You said, looking off towards the water. “I have to make a call.”
♡♡♡
You were at the club playing a game of golf when one of the managers came out to talk to you.
“Nice swing, Ms. Thornton.” He said with a smile, his hands behind his back.
“What’s up, James?” You asked, putting your 9-Iron back in your bag.
“You asked me to come get you if Mr. Cameron showed up, he’s here.”
“Thank you, James.” You smiled, pulling your gloves off as you walked inside. You walked outside the front doors to where Rafe stood with his arms crossed.
“Seriously, you had my club membership revoked?” Rafe asked.
“You know that’s the nice thing about my step-dad owning the country club, I can do whatever I want.”
“You think that this is ruining my life?” Rafe chuckled, looking down at you.
“Oh no, this is just the start. I mean what will everyone say when they find out Rafe Cameron, the owner of Cameron Development, got kicked out of the country club? I mean all it takes for you to become an outcast is for me to tell one person that you got kicked out for assaulting the owner’s prized step-daughter.”
“You wouldn’t.”
“You’re right I won’t, if you apologize.”
“You’d be willing to ruin someone’s life because of a race?”
“No, Rafe, I’m willing to ruin your life because of all the other bullshit you’ve pulled with my brother and friends.” You said, glaring up at Rafe. “It’s about time someone held you accountable for your actions and if the cops won’t, then I will.” You added with a shrug. You went to walk away, but Rafe grabbed your elbow, pulling you back.
“I am not that person anymore, y/n. You can’t hold that shit against me.”
“You mean I can’t hold you almost drowning Sarah, or shooting her, or the countless times you beat the shit out of Pope, against you?”
“And what if everyone found out about the abortion you got?”
“Keep your voice down.” You said through gritted teeth, your face a mixture of hurt and embarrassment. “You don’t get to do that. You don’t get to throw that in my face. You know that was one of the hardest decisions of my life.”
When you and Rafe first started dating you had missed a couple of your birth control pills. You were so wrapped up in applying to colleges and scholarships that you thought it wouldn’t hurt to miss one or two every time you turned off the alarm, saying you would take them later. But, before you knew it, you had missed a week.
Luckily, with your form of birth control you still experienced your periods, so you knew something was wrong when you missed your next period. You had chalked it up to stress, but when it didn’t come the next week or the week after that, you decided to buy a couple tests. When they all came back positive, you panicked, you didn’t know what to do. This wasn’t part of your plan.
You thought the decision would be easy, but when the day of your appointment came and you sat in the chair as the doctor went over everything with you, you thought about everything. The color its hair would be, if it would have your eyes or Rafe’s eyes, if it would be good at sports. But, then you realized that’s all it was to you, an it.
After the abortion, you laid in bed for a week, unable to do anything. You didn’t regret it, but the thought that you had just gotten rid of a part of you and Rafe was tough for you to deal with. Rafe wasn’t upset, or mad, or disappointed, he was understanding. He laid in that bed with you for a week. He helped you shower, he helped you with your homework as best as he could, he helped you study for your tests. He didn’t leave your side until he was certain you were okay.
“Apologize to JJ and I won’t say anything to anyone, you’ll get your membership back, and we can go back to pretending like we don’t know each other just like the last two years.”
“I’ll apologize to your brother, but I’m not just gonna walk around here pretending I don’t know you.”
“I don’t know what you want from me Rafe. Do you really expect me to forget all the atrocious things you did to my friends?”
“No, I just want you to know I’m not that guy anymore. I’m trying to do better, I’m in therapy, I got off coke, Cameron Development is better than ever.”
“Rafe, all of that is great, but I can’t just ignore everything. I have a game to finish.”
With that you walked back inside the club, leaving Rafe standing outside.

It’s been a week since your fight with Rafe. He did buy you your new phone, but he couldn’t bring himself to face you, so he left it on your porch. You weren’t sure what to expect, but the silence was deafening. After the fight, you were so emotionally drained that you laid in bed for two days. You didn’t eat, you could barely sleep, no matter how many joints you smoked, you didn’t talk to anyone, not even Sarah. You know she heard your fight with him, she was right below his balcony on a lounge chair by the pool. She didn’t even get up to look in the pool when you threw his phone in, she just knew he deserved it. Your mom tried to convince you to get out of bed, to no avail. She even invited JJ over as a failed attempt to get you out of bed, but you just got upset with her. You didn’t want JJ to know about you and Rafe. It wasn’t until John B came in, with a case of your favorite seltzer, that you got out of bed.
“Don’t get mad and throw something.” He said, coming into your room, holding his hands up. “I come in peace. Your mom let me in.”
You just huffed and buried yourself under your covers.
He sighed and sat down on the edge of your bed, looking around your room. This was the first time he was in your room at your Mom’s house. It was way bigger than your room at your Dad’s house, and you had your own bathroom, with a walk-in closet. He couldn’t understand why you would ever leave, especially to come to The Cut.
“Y/n…” He said quietly, trying to peel back your covers, but you just smacked his hand away. “Alright, I guess you don’t want any of these seltzers then.”
You finally peeked out from under the covers, slowly removing them before you sat up.
“There she is.” He had that same stupid smile he always had on his face.
♡♡♡
“So…You and Rafe Cameron, huh?” John B said as you sat on your balcony, drinking the seltzers he had brought over.
“There was no, ‘me and Rafe Cameron.’” You sighed, tucking your legs under you.
“So, then why are you so upset about him? The y/n I know would never be so upset over a guy, especially a guy she wasn’t even dating. I mean, I don’t even think you were this upset when you broke up with that one guy. What was his name? Lucas something.”
“I don’t know, I just thought…I just thought things would be different between me and him, you know?”
“With Rafe Cameron?”
“I know, it sounds so stupid when I say it out loud.” You mutter, putting your head in your hands. “Ok, like, you know how Kie feels about you?” You looked over at John B as he nodded, listening carefully to you. “That’s how I felt about Rafe.”
“Are we talking about the same Rafe? The one you’re constantly fighting with?”
“We never actually fought. This was our first real fight.”
“I just don’t understand why you give him the time of day, it’s so obvious he doesn’t deserve you.”
“I don’t know, JB, there’s just something about him.” You sighed, fiddling with your fingers.
“Yeah, that something is he’s crazy.”
“Ha, ha very funny.”
♡♡♡
You stood in your kitchen, the day of your annual bonfire. Your mom and step-dad were out of town on vacation and your little sister and brother were each at their own friend’s houses. You were drinking your usual latte when you heard the doorbell ring.
You sighed and opened the door to see a disheveled Rafe. It looked like he had been up for days, his hair was a mess, his shirt wasn’t even buttoned up all the way.
“What are you doing here, Rafe?” You sighed, standing in the doorway.
“We need to talk.” He said frantically.
“No, I don’t think we do.” You went to go shut the door, but Rafe grabbed it before you could. “Seriously? I have nothing to say to you Rafe.”
“Then-then I’ll talk and you listen. Please.”
“Fine. But, you aren’t coming inside.”
“That’s fine, I just need you to listen to me.”
“Go ahead, I’m listening.”
“Alright, look I’m sorry I hooked up with Hannah, I shouldn’t have done it. I think…I think I’m just scared that something real is happening between you and me and that terrifies the shit out of me, if I’m being honest, it really does, because never have I ever felt the way that I feel about you about someone else. I knew it when we were kids and I know it now.”
Your hard gaze faltered as you continued listening to Rafe, taking in each and every single one of his words.
“Every girl I’ve ever been with means nothing in comparison to you. They’ve all just been distractions, distractions from the fact that I knew I could never be enough for you. You mean everything to me, y/n.”
You stepped closer to Rafe, your lips grazing over his, your noses brushing against each other.
“Say it, Rafe.” You whispered, looking up at him. “Say those three little words and I’m yours. That’s all it takes.”
“I-I…”
“I knew it.” You scoffed, stepping back from Rafe. “Goodbye, Rafe.” You muttered, stepping back inside and shutting the front door behind you.
♡♡♡
“Hey.” You said to the boys with a smile as you opened the front door.
“We brought beer.” JJ smiled holding up the two cases.
“Oh, you shouldn’t have.” You replied, closing the front door once they came inside.
“We couldn’t come empty handed.” John B explained.
“No really, you shouldn’t have, that’s literally the worst beer I’ve ever had.” You smiled, throwing your arms around John B and JJ, leading them into the backyard. “Where’s Pope and Kie?”
“They’re coming later, something about a keg run.”
You and the boys stepped into the backyard which was already littered with at least a hundred people, pogues and kooks standing around, drinking. You just prayed there wouldn’t be a fight this year.
♡♡♡
You sat on a log near the fire with John B, just talking, when felt him walk in. You don’t know how, but your body just always knows when Rafe Cameron is in the area, like it has a visceral reaction.
“I’ll be right back.” You muttered to John B when you finally spotted Rafe, setting your beer down on the ground next to the log.
You walked over with your head held high, but suddenly it felt like your mini skirt was too short and your sweater was too cropped. You pulled down at both as you approached Rafe.
“What are you doing here?” You asked Rafe with your arms crossed.
“You know I never miss your bonfire.” He answered with that stupid smirk on his face that you just wanted to slap off.
“Do you make it a habit of showing up to places where you aren’t wanted?”
“I’m pretty sure I’m wanted here.” He said, crossing his arms.
“If I wanted you here, I would’ve texted you.”
“Oh, I’m not talking about you.” Rafe smirked and nodded his head behind you. You looked behind you and saw a girl waiting by the fire, waving towards Rafe.
You turned towards Rafe and laughed.
“Of course.” You said sarcastically. “You always did move on quickly, Rafe.”
“And you aren’t getting comfy with that pogue?”
“Please, you know John B is just a friend.”
“I’m pretty sure friends don’t hook up with friends.”
“John B and I are not hooking up.”
“That’s not what Topper told me.” Rafe scoffed, rolling his eyes.
“I can’t believe you actually listened to Topper. John B and I haven’t hooked up in months. I can’t even believe I’m explaining this to you.” You scoffed, crossing your arms. You watched as Rafe’s face faltered slightly, your words washing over him.
Rafe sighed and rubbed his temples, contemplating his next words.
“Can we just start over? Please, y/n.” Rafe begged, pressing his hands together.
“I told you what to say, Rafe, and you couldn’t even say it.”
Rafe took your hand and pulled you inside, leading you up to your room. You sighed and sat on your bed, crossing one leg over the other, as he squatted down in front of you. You liked him at this angle, lower than you.
“I’m sorry, okay. I know-I know should’ve said it. But you know me, y/n, you know how hard that is for me.”
“It shouldn’t be that hard if you mean it.”
“I do mean it, that’s why it’s so hard for me. If you were just some random girl I just wanted to hook up with, it would be so much easier to lie and just say it.”
“Bad choice of words Cameron.”
“But with you I would mean it. If I said it, it would make things real and that scares me, y/n.”
“You don’t think it scares me? Rafe, it terrifies me, but it’s a jump I’m willing to take with you. We would jump together, that’s what makes this so great. We would be a team. Just you and me.”
“Just you and me?”
“Just you and me.” You repeated, taking Rafe’s hands in yours, intertwining your fingers. You leaned down and pressed your forehead against Rafe’s, your noses brushing against each other. Rafe quickly closed the gap between your lips. The way your lips moved against each other’s was perfection, even better than when you kissed each other for the first time. You dropped his hands, and wrapped your arms around his neck, deepening the kiss, as Rafe started to stand up a little. You moved back on the bed and grabbed his collar, pulling him over you, one hand holding him above you and the other hand was gripping your waist. His tongue ran over your bottom lip, begging for entrance into your mouth, and you opened up for him, letting his tongue slip in, tasting the cheap beer you were drinking. You wrapped your legs around Rafe’s waist, pulling him closer to you and he ground his hips into yours. You flipped both of you over, so you were straddling Rafe, your hands on either side of his head to hold you up, never breaking the kiss. You felt his hands move down your waist, then hips, before taking residence on your ass, gripping tightly. You groaned into the kiss, grinding your hips against Rafe’s, desperate for any type of friction.
“Rafe.” You moaned against his lips.
“Let me take care of you, baby.” He whispered, moving you so you were lying on your back. He moved off the bed and gently grabbed your legs, pulling you to the edge. Rafe started taking off your skirt and you lifted your hips slightly at an attempt to help him. You pulled your sweater off over your head, throwing it somewhere in your room as Rafe worked on removing your thong, muttering something about not wanting anything in the way. He kneeled in front of you, putting your legs on his shoulders, leaving a trail of kisses up your left leg.
He slowly licked a stripe through your folds, looking up at you, watching as you moaned.
“Stop teasing.” You groaned, kicking his shoulder lightly.
“Patience baby.” He said, before pressing a soft kiss to your clit.
Rafe’s lips attached themselves to your clit, sucking and licking gently. Before you knew it you were a moaning mess under him, your hands gripped his hair pulling lightly as your hips bucked up. Rafe’s left hand held your hips secure, while he continued his work on your clit. Rafe used his right to slide his middle and ring finger inside of you, pumping his fingers in and out of you at the perfect speed.
“Rafe.” His name flowed from your mouth like a prayer. Like you were some battered child and he was your saving grace. You swore you died and had gone to have heaven when you felt him curl his fingers inside of you, hitting that one spot you so desperately needed touched.
You clenched around his fingers, your orgasm approaching quickly. But before you could actually finish, Rafe was pulling his fingers out of you and stopped his assault on your clit, sitting back and taking in the sight of your dripping pussy.
You sat up on your elbows at the sudden loss of pleasure and looked down at Rafe.
“Sorry, baby, but I only want you cumming on my dick.” He said, standing up.
You groaned and tilted your head back, rolling your eyes in frustration. But you were quick to action, getting up on your knees, you moved over to Rafe and undid his belt as he took his shirt off, throwing it into the pile of clothes on the floor. Once he had his pants and boxers off, you were quick to grab his shoulders and pulled him down on the bed, moving to straddle him. You hovered over Rafe and grabbed his cock, lining it up with your entrance.
“You’re still on that birth control, right?” He asked, looking up at you while his hands gripped your hips.
“Does it matter?” You responded, clearly frustrated as you were trying to focus on getting Rafe inside of you.
“Are you trying to baby trap me?” Rafe joked, chuckling lightly.
“Stop talking.” You groaned as you sank down on him, clenching around his cock.
Rafe’s grip on your hips tightened as he realized he was balls deep inside of you. Your hands clutched Rafe’s thighs as you started moving up and down, rolling your hips. Rafe’s started thrusting up, meeting your hips. Your movements started to get sloppier as you reached closer to the finish. Rafe sat up and wrapped his arms around your waist, slipping one of your nipples into his mouth, sucking on it softly as he continued thrusting up into you. The only sounds that could be heard in the room were soft moans and grunts from Rafe, and the sound of skin slapping skin.
“Fuck Rafe.” You moaned, resting your head in the crook of his neck. “I-I’m so close.”
“Wait for me, baby.” He said softly, guiding your hips up and down. You clenched around Rafe, trying so desperately hard to hold it back. A few more thrusts up into you and Rafe was coming undone inside you and you finally released what you had been holding back. Your body relaxed against Rafe’s, your breathing fast against Rafe’s neck.
“I love you.” Rafe muttered against your neck as he left a few kisses there.

When you woke up the next morning, you felt cold and lonely. Without opening your eyes, you patted the spot on the bed next to you and it was empty. You opened your eyes and sat up, your feet dangling off the edge of the bed. Sighing, you stood up and made your way to the bathroom, gathering your things. You looked in the mirror and your eyes widened at the sight of your neck.
“Of course he would.” You muttered, running your fingers along the hickeys on your neck.
You walked downstairs into the kitchen, greeted by Sarah with a smile.
“Holy shit.” She said, walking over to you.
“Is it bad?” You asked, cringing a little.
“I don’t even think makeup is gonna cover those up.”
“Oh, fantastic.” You muttered.
“Soo, did it finally happen?” Sarah asked smiling.
“God, no, we just…kissed.” You sighed, crossing your arms.
“Oh my God!” Sarah squealed, jumping up and down with a huge smile on her face.
“Hey.” Rafe said, walking through the front door, carrying two cups of coffee. “I brought you a latte, I know it’s like your hangover cure.”
“Ugh, thank you.” You took the coffee gratefully with a smile. “Also, fuck you.” You said, playfully pushing Rafe.
“What?” He asked, laughing.
“You know what I’m talking about.” You glared, pointing at his chest.
“What, I think they look good. You didn’t seem to mind last night.”
“How am I supposed to walk past my mom like this?” You crossed your arms, the shirt you were wearing lifting up just a little bit.
“I’ll just walk you home, walk in with you, and distract your mom while you run upstairs to your room.”
“Oh yeah, because walking into my house with me is really gonna calm my mom down.”
“So you want to do this by yourself?” Rafe asked, crossing his own arms.
“I think it’s a good idea.” Sarah piped up. “Also, why didn’t you get me any coffee?”
“That’s your boyfriend’s job.” Rafe glared at her.
“So now you’re my boyfriend?” You joked, smirking at Rafe.
“N-No, that’s not what- Are we gonna do this or not?”
“Fine, but you can’t like spend all day talking to my mom like a creep.”
“Alright, alright.” Rafe said, holding his hands up.
You and Rafe walked side by side to your house in a comfortable silence. He knew your head was pounding and talking would only make things worse.
“Alright, you have to go first.” You say to Rafe as the two of you stood outside your front door.
“Alright, alright.” He said, opening the door to your house and walking through like he had done a hundred times before and of course he had.
“Ms. Thornton.” Rafe announced himself with a smile as he walked into the kitchen and you ran upstairs to your room.
♡♡♡
You sat at your vanity and sighed, taking your best attempt at covering the hickeys. You watched through your mirror as Rafe crossed the threshold into your room.
“What are you doing?” He asked, looking around your room taking in every single thing, even the small things.
“Trying to cover these up so I don’t have to hide myself in my room for the next two days.”
“What, you don’t want people to know what we did?” Rafe asked, sitting down on your bed.
“I never said that.” You smiled, standing up and moving over to straddle Rafe’s lap, wrapping your arms around his neck. His hands quickly found residence on your hips. “But, the less people who do know the better.” Your face dropped, trying to keep up a façade of seriousness.
“Funny.” Rafe scoffed, rolling his eyes.
“You know, I don’t mind one or two hickeys, but seven? Seven seems a bit overkill.”
“Want to make it eight?” Rafe joked, smirking up at you.
You scoffed and pushed Rafe’s face away, rolling your eyes, earning a laugh from him.
♡♡♡
You sat your desk, attempting to finish up an essay when you felt your phone go off. You thought you could ignore it until it went off again. You rolled your eyes and reached for it, surprised to see the texts were from Rafe.
you coming over tonight?
you know i won’t have fun unless you’re here
You sighed and thought about your response for a second. Go to a party, have fun, potentially hook up with Rafe, which is something you’ve wanted all summer, or confine yourself to your room, be responsible, and finish this essay. You thought the choice would be obvious, but evidently it was not as you paced around your room for five minutes before typing out your response.
i can’t i have to finish this essay
You sighed and threw your phone on your bed, not wanting to deal with anymore notifications. You needed to get this last thing done and then you were free for the last week of summer.
♡♡♡
After two straight hours of writing, you decided it was time for a break and went outside to your balcony. Just being outside made you feel better. And then you looked up and saw Rafe with a girl in his room. You recognized the girl as one of the girls from the beach. And they weren’t just talking in his room, they were making out. You knew where that led so you just went back into your room, slamming the door behind you. You slammed it so hard, you were sure some of the glass panels cracked.
How could you be so stupid? How could you let yourself get so wrapped up with him? Why would you possibly convince yourself that Rafe would commit himself to you and only you? You were pissed and not just at him, but at yourself.
You could feel the tears start to come up in your eyes, that familiar burning sensation in your throat. Your chest heaved as your breathing became heavier. And then you laughed, actually laughed. Because why were you crying over a boy? Much less crying over Rafe Cameron. You sat down at your desk, bouncing your leg up and down as you attempted to calm down. You wiped your eyes with the back of your hands and took a deep breath, before continuing your essay.
After finishing up your essay, you walked into your bathroom and got in the shower. Memories from the night before flashed through your head. The way Rafe’s hands felt on your body, the scent of his body wash. You scrubbed your head with your lavender shampoo, trying to scrub the memories from your brain.
You stepped out of the shower shortly after, wrapping a towel around your head and pulling your robe on. When you stepped into your bedroom, you felt a new surge of anger wash over you. He was just here ten hours earlier laying on your bed and you wanted nothing more than to get out of this house, out of this area of the island. You pulled on a t-shirt and a pair of running shorts, slipping on your pair of Birkenstocks as you brushed your hair. You rushed downstairs and grabbed your keys out of the bowl, your hair still wet but you didn’t care, you just needed to get away. Away from this house, away from him.
You practically jumped into your car and started it, not even letting it warm up before you pulled out of your driveway and sped to the other side of Kildare, tears threatening to spill down your face. But these weren’t sad tears, these were angry, frustrated tears. If Rafe wanted to hook up with someone, you were gonna hook up with someone, and you knew just the person that would do it.
You pulled into the driveway of the chateau, sitting in your car for a second, taking a deep breath before you turned your car off and got out. You knocked on the front door impatiently, fidgeting with your fingers.
“Hey.” John B said with a smile as he opened the door. He looked over you quickly, taking note of your disheveled state. “Is everything okay?”
“I need you JB.” You responded quietly, stepping inside. “Like really, really need you.” You put your hands on his waist and looked down to his lips quickly before looking back to his eyes.
“I think you need to tell me what’s going on.” He cupped your face gently and looked down at you with concern.
“God, nothing is going on, John B.” You snapped, pushing John B’s hands away. “Do you want to do this or not?”
“I’m not doing this with you like this, y/n.” John B spoke softly, taking your hands in his. You swore you were gonna break down right there in the middle of John B’s living room. He could see the tears starting to well in your eyes and pulled you in for a hug, wrapping his arms around you tightly. You felt the tears start to rush out as you hugged John B back, silently crying into his chest. He kissed the top of your head and held you like that for what seemed like forever until you started to calm down.
“You all good?” John B asked as you let go of him and stepped back, the closeness to him starting to sink in and then you remembered how Kie felt about him. God, you couldn’t believe you were about to do what you were about to do. You couldn’t stop thinking about what would happen if Kie found out.
You nodded your head with a sad smile. “Do you want a beer?” John B offered, shoving his hands in his pockets and you laughed. “I heard it makes everything better.”
♡♡♡
You and John B sat on the dock, each drinking whatever beer he had in the fridge at the chateau.
“If I knew you were gonna give me this shitty beer, I would’ve brought a case.” You joked, knocking your shoulder into John B’s.
“Sorry it’s not the same beer that you’re used to at those kook parties.” He joked back, earning an eye roll from you before you took a sip.
“Well, one more week and I’ll be back on The Cut.” You reminded him with a smile.
“Does that mean it’s almost time for the annual y/n bonfire?”
“In fact it does.” You smiled, setting your beer down next to you. You moved closer to John B and rested your head on his shoulder as you looked out at the water, John B put his arm over your shoulder, pulling you into his side.
“So, you want to tell me what had you so upset you decided to come pay me a visit?” He asked, looking down at you.
“It’s a long story.” You sighed.
“One for another time then?”
“Definitely one for another time.” You answered, looking up at him. You watched as his eyes flickered down to your lips, staying there for a second.
“John-” You tried to say, but were cut off by John B’s lips coming in contact with yours. For a second you were in shock, but you quickly closed your eyes and soon enough your lips were moving in tandem with his. Your hand came up to the side of his face as the kiss deepened. It wasn’t long before you quickly came to your senses and you pulled back from John B, his lips swollen and red.
“John B, we can’t.” You muttered, resting your forehead against his. Your eyes were still closed, you couldn’t look him in the eyes.
“Why?” He asked, his voice laced with concern and confusion.
“Because Kiara-”
“Kie is just a friend.” He protested, you could feel his eyes on you and you sighed, pulling away from him hesitantly.
“To you Kie may just be a friend but…”
“But what?” You thought very carefully about your next words.
“But, she has like real feelings for you John B, like intense relationship feelings. And I can’t be the one to hurt her.”
“Are you saying you don’t have feelings for me?”
“That’s not what I mean JB, you know what our relationship is. You know I have feelings for you, you know I’ll always have feelings for you, but Kie is like ready to act on her feelings. If you went up to her and asked her out tonight, she would say yes in a heartbeat.”
“Why are you letting Kiara’s feelings for me, affect us?”
“Because, she’s my friend John B, and I don’t want to hurt her. I know if we hook up you’re gonna tell Pope and/or JJ and they’re gonna talk to each other about it in front of her and make jokes about it.”
“So we just don’t tell anybody that we hooked up.”
“It’s not that easy John B. I know you don’t believe it but I do have a conscience.”
“I know you have a conscience, y/n.” John B sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“I didn’t come here to argue, JB.” You said, pulling your knees to your chest.
“I know, I know, I’m sorry.”
“Look, no more hooking up or making out until Kie stops having feelings for you. Agreed?”
“Really?” John B whined, his shoulders slumping and you just gave him a look in response. “Alright, fine, agreed.”
“Look if it was any other girl, I would keep hooking up with you, but Kie’s like my little sister.”
“I get it, I get it.”
♡♡♡
The next afternoon you walked into the Cameron’s house. You had agreed to lay out by the pool with Sarah all day, listen to music, and just tan. You didn’t want to talk to Rafe or see him, but luck would have it he was standing in the kitchen.
“Hey.” He said with a smile, but you just kept walking past him. “Woah, woah, woah.” He grabbed your hand and pulled you back to him.
“Get your filthy hand off of me, Cameron.” You responded through gritted teeth, ripping your hand away from Rafe’s.
“Did I just wake up in some alternate reality where we didn’t agree to stop fighting?” He questioned, looking down at you confused.
“Last I checked we didn’t agree on that.”
“I’m pretty sure showering together automatically comes with a truce.”
“Whatever.” You scoffed, attempting to continue on your way, but you didn’t get far before Rafe was grabbing your wrist and dragging you upstairs.
“Let go of me you fucking bastard.” You said as you smacked Rafe’s arm, but he didn’t let go, in fact, his grip only got tighter. When you reached his room he practically threw you in, slamming the door behind him.
“Do you want to tell me what the fucking attitude is for?” He asks, towering over you. He’s standing so close to you, your chests are touching. You just scoff and cross your arms, never breaking eye contact.
“Guess.” You reply, glaring at Rafe.
“This isn’t a fucking guessing game, y/n, just fucking tell me.”
“No, I want you to go through the list of possible reasons I could be pissed at you.” You could see Rafe practically seething right now, his chest rose up and down so fast you thought he was going to have a heart attack.
“Alright, alright, I’ll play your stupid game. Did you-”
You cut Rafe off by holding your index finger up to his face, pulling your phone out of your back pocket when you felt it vibrate. It was a text from Sarah, but you before you could read it, Rafe pushed your hand out of his face and grabbed your phone, throwing it at the wall. Your head snapped to where it hit the wall, the anger just pouring off of you.
“Give me your phone.” You said quietly, sticking your hand out.
“No fucking way.” Rafe chuckled, looking down at your hand.
“Give me your fucking phone Rafe!”
He hesitated for a moment, but handed you his phone. You stomped out to his balcony, Rafe following closely behind.
“Y/n, think before you do something stupid.” He begged, but you didn’t listen. You chucked his phone off the balcony into the pool below.
“Now, I want you to list off every possible reason I could be so fucking mad at you.” You said, turning around to face Rafe.
You watched as realization washed over Rafe’s face.
“You saw me hook up with Hannah last night.” Rafe sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose with his thumb and middle finger.
“Ding, ding, ding.” You cheered, your voice just absolutely dripping with sarcasm.
“So you’re mad at me because you’re jealous?”
You laughed in Rafe’s face, actually laughed, like bending over at the waist laughed.
“Jealous? You think I’m jealous? No, Rafe, I’m fucking livid, not just at you, but myself. I’m mad at myself for letting myself trust you. For thinking, maybe, just maybe, you would actually give up the other girls, that maybe just I was good enough.”
“You said it yourself, y/n, we’re not in a relationship. You said you were happy with what we had. You never said anything about not hooking up with other people.”
“I figured showering together meant we weren’t hooking up with other people, a kind of truce, as you called it.” You said, throwing Rafe’s argument from earlier back in his face. “Oh, and then after we showered together we literally made out all night. Hours, Rafe, we made out for hours. And you didn’t seem to have a problem fucking marking me up.” You gestured to your neck. “Oh, and let’s talk about how you’re fine with everyone knowing that I made out with you, but not okay with everyone knowing you made out with me!”
“Okay, now you’re just being overdramatic.” Rafe scoffed, crossing his arms.
“Oh, I’m being overdramatic? You just threw my phone at a fucking wall for not paying attention to you!”
“You stuck your fucking finger in my face!” Rafe yelled. You didn’t know if he expected you to flinch, but you held your ground, keeping an unamused look on your face. Because truly, you were unamused. You watched as Rafe paced back and forth, your arms crossed as you leaned against the balcony railing. Your eyebrows shot up when Rafe stopped right in front of you.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, okay?” He said, causing you to scoff and roll your eyes. “I shouldn’t have hooked up with Hannah, it was stupid. I-I didn’t realize how much it would hurt you.”
“Were you even gonna tell me?” You asked. Rafe couldn’t even look you in the eye, you scoffed as you looked at him. “Of course you weren’t. You know, Rafe, you’ve really disappointed me, truly.”
You went to go leave, but you turned around to say one last thing. “Oh, you’re paying for my new phone by the way, today.”
