Shouldn't Come Back

Oh. That sounds pretty…wild. Going at — it. You’re like a pure angel, I don’t want to taint your mind any further. So, I’ll just say they’re going at…Twister. Lots of Twister going on at parties. Math and science are my shit. I mean, I’m studying engineering, so they have to be. No, tell me! Did you or did you not meet The Rock? It’s my goal to meet him.

That’s the perfect word to describe my life! Wild. A pure angel? Okay, possibly, but why? What did I do now? Alright, now I know you’re joking with me, because I know very well that there is no Twister going on at parties! Engineering? Ooh, that’s exciting! I’m only a Kindergarten teacher, so there isn’t much involved in my teaching process. I can’t lie to you any more, Parker. I didn’t meet The Rock. Not once. Not twice. Not ever.

“I know I probably shouldn’t laugh but that’s the sort of thing I really am likely to do and I still find the image pretty amusing.”

“I laughed about it to, right after the burning simmered down a bit! What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger, right?”

“I’ll let it slide just this once.” He teased with a small laugh. “By all means, go for it.”

“Okay, okay. I’ve got a great one for you.” She smirked, trying to hold back a giggle. “... What does a nosy pepper do?”

“One day you’ll end up being one of those people who have the built in bookshelves all over their house and their own personal library. What ones are you thinking of, though? I mean you already have yourself a pretty little library.”

“That would actually be a dream come true. Really, that sounds like the most amazing idea -- my own personal library with all my lovely books. I’d never leave home. Who knows? Maybe I’ll be inspired to try something new, or maybe I’ll just be drawn to something.”

“You see, I’ve done that before. Except it was only two cups of coffee so I can’t imagine how much pain four cups might have been. Please tell me you gave a good death glare to the person who made you spill all of them?”

“It was terrible, ruined one of my best shirts. But it’s okay! -- What? No, of course I didn’t! I’m sure they didn’t mean to do it on purpose. Come on, Ainslee, you know I don’t even have a death glare.”

On you? I can’t let you pay -- you have to let me at least split it with you!

“How about the, uh, whatever that one is. It’s off of Southport Supply and across from a McDonald’s. I think it’s actually just called Books n’ Stuff.”

“Ooh, yeah! I love that one! It’s always so warm and cozy. Honestly, why can’t I just live in a bookstore. Anyway, let’s go. I’ve got some books to add to my collection.”

“Milk chocolate or dark? That’s where the real question is. If you can’t answer that correctly you shoulder consider giving up on chocolate. Right and how many times have people said that and rolled there eyes right after because that does imply they’re being a sarcastic twat. Just watch me, I’ll break into your house and steal all of your ingredients, every time you go out to eat, I’ll go earlier and book the entire restaurant. Oh definitely, that’s all that’s on my mind.”

Honestly, I can’t believe you’re making me choose. Milk chocolate, always. And I don’t care if you say it’s the wrong answer, because I refuse to give it up! Well, I -- I’m not sure, but I do know that I’m absolutely awful at picking up on sarcasm, so if that’s the case, then I’d rather be blissfully ignorant. -- What?! That’s so scary! I’d actually freak out if you did that.

…Normal parties. You’ve never seen a pair of strangers making out against a wall? Hell, I’ve walked in on people going at it. I have been one of those people, actually. Science is crazy. That’s why I love it. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Now I can’t tell if you’re just messing with me.

N-No, not that I can recall? I’ve never gone to parties, I mean, aside from dinner parties, or family parties. The occasional birthday party, too! I’m not really sure what you mean by that -- going at what? Whatever it is, it sounds aggressive, and I’m far from the aggressive type. Science was always fun for me in school, but I’ve always had a soft spot for English or math. It just comes easily to me. Ha, I guess it’s for me to know and you to find out!

“I’m glad it did because that’s exactly what I was referring too; I’d try to pull out a snickers bar from no where but that’s just not possible in my time. Hyperactive? Yes, delight? No, god you need to sit down and decrease any caffeine or sugar intake for the rest of your life. Oh of course you can’t, you never know when an aspiring lawyer will steal all your ideas and cause you to go bankrupt, even though we know writers are clearly millionaires.”

“Oh that’s alright, I’m not a big fan of Snickers anyway. I’m more of a simple girl -- hand me a bag of Hershey kisses and I’m set to go. Excuse you, again! I have been told numerous times that I’m a delight, okay? Sure, majority of the time it’s by the elderly, but that doesn’t matter! You cannot strip me of my sugar intake. What would I do without lemonade or baked sweets? I’ll tell you -- I’d die. Exactly! You know, I have a feeling you’re after my hard-earned writing money.”

“Mystery - true crime, same thing.. but yes, I know what we have to do. When and what one because you know there’s about a hundred of them around here.”

“There’s a difference between mystery and crime where someone’s been brutally murdered or something of the sort. You know I don’t like things that are gruesome or gory! Unless we’re talking about something written by Agatha Christie, in which case... I can accept that. You can choose, I don’t care. Surprise me!”

The lips are no big deal. I could deal without kissing someone for a few days and using chapstick and avoiding Cheetos. But my eyes?! I don’t know what I’d do. That’s my middle name, actually. Parker Third Degree Burn Sinclair. My parents were a bit odd. Good to meet you too, Mia.

Kissing? Oh no, no, that hadn’t even crossed my mind. No kissing was getting done before or after my lips getting burned -- and here I am, talking as if this face burning incident actually happened. Is it possible to go blind from burning your eyes? I’d imagine so, especially if it’s really hot. That’s a lovely name, don’t judge your parents and their name choosing! But if we’re sharing full names here, then I’ve got to let you know that my actual name is Mia Butter Fingers Hawthorne. Though, my family nickname is Klutz. You name it, I’ve tripped on it. Possibly even dropped it.

“I don’t think I’ve picked up anything that has been too good. I mean, I have my usual ones but I’ve just added a lot of ‘true crime’ to the shelves.”

“Crime? I don’t want to read about crime, that’s so dark and gruesome. I could do with a good mystery, though -- have you got any of those? If not, you know what we have to do, right?”

“I’m not against art - I’m just against me trying to make art. I work a lot better with books, I’ll have you know.”

“Anyone can make art if they put their mind to it, that’s what my dad always says! I know you do. Speaking of, I think it’s about time we get back to how things were. Meaning, I need to see your books and see what you’ve picked up over the years -- and possibly what I’d like to borrow.”
