It was darkness that first greeted Sorey as he returned to the waking world. He laid upon a cold hard surface, his senses surrounded by what was both foreign and familiar.  The ambiance was strange, a deafening silence that he was unused to.  His nostrils were filled by a damp and musty smell of a place that clearly had not been opened for a good number of years.  RuinsâŚ
Thatâs right.  The last of his memory was a surreal scene where a man who believed his ways were correct, met his demise upon Soreyâs hand.  And in that personâs place, he took on the role of absorbing Maoterasu, only waking when the world was purified.  He bid his friends good bye and thanked them for their help.  Then⌠it was sleep.
But now he was awake, and that could only mean that his goal had been reached.Â
Pushing himself up to a seated position, he finally glanced around his surroundings to figure out where in the world he was to begin with. Â Or more like, how long? Â If he remembered correctly, even he had been prepared to sleep for centuries as the darkness in the world was strong and existed in the hearts of every living thing.Â
âSo long as I remember my promise, weâll be together again.â
There was that as well. Â Even if his goal was reached, there was still a promise he had to keep.
And this was where he found himself sitting within the darkness of the very same ruins. Â Who knew how long ago it was when he first woke up. Â He had discovered much about himself and these ruins in his stay, some of which were a little distressing. Â For one, his hair had changed to an uncanny colour of pale yellow from its original brown. Â Not to mention the length had become so dangerous that leaving it be resulted to him tripping a number of times. Â He had been forced to cut it a few inches below his waist with a sharp rock he had found while walking about the ruins. Â His face as well seemed to have shown some changes when he glanced upon his reflection, and there seemed to be a difference in his height if the length of his pants were any proof of it.
Then there was the one question that lingered in his mind upon waking. The question of how long has it been?  Judging from the walls alone, the stone were already showing stages of decay that could only occur after decades, maybe centuries after they were built.  If that was so then⌠where could he go?
Where would⌠Mikleo be?  If he left this place, how would he find him?  Would Mikleo still know he was Sorey?
It was those very questions that led him to the decision to wait within these walls. Â While it was purely his conjecture, he felt that this was the best way to find his childhood friend. Â These were the ruins of Maoterasuâs temple and the place he parted with all of his companions. Â Eventually, Mikleo would return. Â
So long as they both remembered their promiseâŚ
