Eddie's laughter was good, loud and sudden and a little unexpected. Scott beamed at the sound of it even as his eyebrows sunk in mild confusion. Truly ? He wanted to see everyone on the ice. His coach had had words with him last semester about trying to recruit the freshman to tryouts a whole academic year in advance. Scott just found it hard to reign in his excitement about the thing that kept him sane. His own laughter escaped him and he grinned wider, eyes narrowing with mirth, ' the cartoon deer ? I can see it for sure, you have the same eyes. Hey, not all of can be snow tigers. '

He shook his head and blond hair fell in front of his face just a little. He knew exactly what the other was talking about. The reality was — and even Scott, with as few secrets as he kept, wouldn't admit to it — he would listen to his cousins talk for hours about whatever it was that kept them buzzing about the house in excitement, and his favourite part of away games was hearing his teammates on the bus talk about their hobbies, and he thought that the last girl he kissed was most beautiful when she started rambling about greek tragedies. The captain smiled down at his beer and snorted, ' yeah, us hockey guys aren't quite the basketball team in terms of relentless bullying ? '

               HIS   FINGERS   BEGAN   TO   FIDGET   WITH   HIS   SKULL   RING.   HE   wasn’t   anxious   this   time   around.   In   fact,   he   was   rather   relaxed.   Eddie   leaned   into   the   counter,   engaged   in   their   conversation.   He   was   no   sports   guy,   but   he   could   tell   very   much   how   important   this   was   to   him.   Eddie   had   a   big   heart   despite   all   that   was   said   behind   his   back.   He   wanted   to   help,   but   he   feared   there   wasn’t   anything   he   could   do…   just   like   with   his   father.   There   was   nothing   he   could   have   done   for   him.   Even   if   he   didn’t   really   want   to   help   him   anyway.   

She woke with a jolt, blue eyes snapping open in horror, heart pounding against her chest with such a force Nancy was sure it would break her ribs. To add to her embarrassment, she had woken up from the nightmare after falling asleep on the couch in the living room after putting Holly to bed, Mike still in the basement cleaning up from his campaign, and Eddie Munson had been the one to see her startle awake.

"Jesus, I-" Nancy stammered it out, slowly sitting up from laying on her side, noticing Eddie had remained crouching down still to be more at her level, his eyes full of genuine worry and kindness. She didn't know him that well, just of him really because of her brother, but this moment was enough for her to deduct enough about him. He wasn't just someone who flunked out of class after class, and even though she had known him around the halls, this had been the first time they actually had interacted with one another that wasn't a polite "hey".

                  ONCE   SHE   WAS   FULLY   AWAKE,   EDDIE   DECIDED   TO   GIVE   HER   some   space.   He   straightened   himself,   and   sat   on   the   coffee   table   just   behind   him.   Perhaps   it   wasn’t   ideal,   but   Eddie   couldn’t   stop   himself   from   being   Eddie.   With   that   in   mind,   he   offered   her   a   small   smile.   Her   words   made   him   have   a   far   off   look   to   his   eyes.   Steve   and   Tommy   H.   Those   two.   His   fingers   started   to   twist   the   rings   on   his   opposite   hand   out   of   nervousness.   His   teeth   but   the   inside   of   his   cheek   hard   before   he   averted   his   gaze   to   the   ground.   He   has   heard   what   has   been   sad   about   him,   but   that   didn’t   matter.   Nancy   almost   seemed   to   be   asking   for   help.   Eddie   couldn’t   deny   someone   help   when   they   asked   for   it.

He had a higher chance of escaping or just fighting his way out of this bullshit. But in a way, he understands. Wasn't the folly of so many in the cliche horror flicks them splitting up? Perhaps Billy wasn't as wise as he wished he was.

               AS   MUCH   AS   HE   TRUSTED   BILLY   TO   MAKE   IT   OUT   alive,   Eddie   needed   him   right   now.   Perhaps   it   was   a   selfish   act,   but   Eddie   didn’t   really   care.   There   was   no   way   he   could   get   whatever   far   along   it   was   in   the   state   he   was   in.   His   wounds   were   starting   to   ache   again,   and   he   wouldn’t   be   able   to   defend   himself   properly.   Any   subtle   movements   caused   great   discomfort,   and   he   was   already   pushing   it   to   just   keep   up.   So,   really,   maybe   it   was   best   they   split?   He   was   just   dead   weight   holding   Billy   down   as   it   was—   no.   He   knew   those   types   of   thoughts   wouldn’t   be   useful,   and   they   were   stupid.   He   had   to   think,   had   to   focus—
