because Buck still thinks Eddie is straight. Buck thinks it’s his fault for being too vocal in the diner. too loud. too much. he thinks this is Eddie’s protective anger, the anger that comes out when someone accuses him of faking his son’s disability. or when someone is constrained and abused with religion by the people they should trust. Buck assumes this is Eddie having his back like he promised all those years ago. what he doesn’t realize is who Eddie is protecting with that anger

Ryan and Oliver photo was first. I lined up at 8:20am. About 20 people in front of me. I blacked out when I got up there. Their eye contact was insane. I couldn’t look at Ryan cause that’s Eddie Diaz and I freaked out. So I focused on Oliver. I said hi and nice to meet you.

I immediately got in line for the trio. Kenny thought I was with the girl in front and we had a silent conversation that I wasn’t 😭 I asked for a trio hug. I squatted down and Ryan and Kenny put their arms around me. My cheek was so close to Kenny. I think Ryan noticed my shirt or something and laughed and said “I see we have a favorite.” I died at that. I realized later I should’ve told Kenny and Ryan I would see them in Nashville.

Got back in line for Oliver solo. I was calming down after that. I was weirdly relaxed for him. When I got up there, I noticed he had bracelets and they looked exactly like the ones I made. Same colors. I thought someone regifted so I was like “I made those” and we chatted about those until I realized it said Buckley while mine said Buck. I asked for a hug for my pose.

After that I went to go get my credit for Aisha then I decided on a whim to use it to do a solo Ryan. So I got back in line for that. I said hi again to Ryan and asked for the hug around the neck. And I told him that I would see him in Nashville.

Panel: (I wrote this down as quickly as I could)

* Lightning if it was them. Ryan ran up ladder but Oliver didn’t dangle. Ryan asked what season and we all yelled six and they all just looked impressed. Something about Ryan’s broken nose?? Didn’t catch all that

* Favorite scenes firetruck. Silly little idea headphones and Aisha can laugh/talk without moving her mouth. Ryan said karaoke. Oliver said “you had fun with that?” And he groaned. Kenny asked if they were going really drunk. They blushed and avoided until they admitted they had a little bit to drink. Oliver mentioned again how much he hates singing.

* How they prepare for sad scenes. Kenny listens to music, Oliver gets into the dialogue. Kenny joked “Oliver you can do this.” Mentioned next week’s episode and learned a lot from Kenny. Ryan can’t stay into it. Get in the body the night before. Stays jovial day off and then finds it in the moment. He feels like he gets stuck in his head and has to immediately get out.

* Funniest thing on set. Lot of laughing. Oliver said pilot. Ryan is just idk. Story of Peter walks into the glass door. Couldn’t stop laughing

* Characters with a connection. Kenny Spider-Man. Ryan said Batman. Oliver rolled his eyes. Ryan said Zorro too. Oliver tried to avoid it. Ryan said green lantern for oliver. Oliver said he hasn’t really felt that for any character.

* Oliver question. How did he get into photography. He said covid. But because they do interesting things on set and tried to focus on that. And because of his intimate connection with the cast, he can capture moments

* What would they be if they didn’t become actors. Oliver motioned to Ryan. He said professional fighter. Kenny said he would struggle. Oliver manual labor. He considered firefighter

* Question for Ryan. Stories from hero reborn. The original costume was from sex store. Oliver’s face 😭😭 went through five to ten costumes. The fan said it needs another season and Ryan agreed but he would have to get off another show

* Deep question. What would your character as of now say what to tell their s1 or s2 self. Ryan “that you’re going to dance in your underwater” Oliver joke “don’t get too close to Bobby” real “be easy slow down”. Kenny said same

* Asked about tsunami and asked if Oliver got tired. Oliver said it is but it’s fun. And feels accomplished. Asked about train and what season and we all said three. Ryan said “this is so nice.” Said it was the most physically demanding

* Sports fans. Kenny bears. Asked about college and they said no. Oliver said lakers. He said doesn’t follow football but arsenal fan. Ryan said he fell out of it. Oliver “Go Purdue” Kenny said “I went to Purdue” Oliver “for what”

* Switch characters. Oliver said Maddie. Ryan said Athena. Oliver just stared at him. Kenny said “Josh.” Ryan said he should be Sue and Kenny turned around. Ryan said too soon

* What do they want to explore more. Ryan said Eddie wants to explore Eddie’s military background.Oliver said explore Buck’s professional growth aka wants to be captain but not now. Kenny said why he’s called chimney

* Another character to Captain 118. Ryan said Peter from nbc. Ryan said Noah from the pitt. Oliver just was like “why” Kenny said the rookie crossover. Kenny said to buddie podcast to mention it cause tim listens to it. Wildest Kenny said “Walter white”

* Kenny why does he say Diaz the way he does and they just started making fun of him. Ryan was late due to bathroom emergency and Kenny said it and it stuck

Last thing was Oliver autograph (I’m doing Ryan and Kenny in Nashville). I had a pen for Oliver to sign the tote and it didn’t work so he had to switch to the sharpie :( I gave him a Buddie and Buck bracelet. I said he probably had plenty but he said what’s more. It was more for me than him anyway.

Throughout the con, I met so many other amazing fans! Just getting to connect and talk face to face was amazing. I heard how the meet and greets went. I heard their theories. We talked about our hot takes. A couple people recognized my url and gifs and that just made me emotional 😭 It was just amazing to find this community of people. I had the best time!

There was no need for this plot… if the guys at the diner were just meant to be a misdirect they could have had a minor conflict over ANYTHING else…why did they need to be homophobic to propel the plot?

Also the cop clearly had been told by witnesses they were a gay couple…the cop could have just been portrayed as lazy or that he didn’t believe Eddie. He could have thought Eddie had a brain injury or something and that Buck didn’t even exist…but the show has him repeatedly act micro aggressively towards Eddie for being gay and that’s the reason he is so uncaring about the case (other than thinking Eddie had potentially killed Buck in a gay lovers quarrel)…

Neither of those situations queerphobic framing were necessary for the story’s plot, however, the entirety of Eddie’s arc this episode is REPEATEDLY dominated by him being the subject of homophobia…

“Your kind”, “princess”, “your “friend””, “mend your wing” — that is FOUR homophobic insinuations all directed at EDDIE in the span of one episode.

Eddie's silence on the whole thing is so fucking loud! previously their relationship and the questions it brings have only been brought up to Buck, and his defense is thin (he's straight, he was a renter, 'i'm not' but not said directly to the 'in love with Eddie' bit but clarified to 'hopelessly pining for')

Because even though Eddie is a character currently plagued by silence and stasis one incredibly positive shift is him separating himself from performance!!! He is no longer capable of “wearing a mask”, disguising himself, or performing heterosexuality. He has removed himself completely from dating women (dare I say that has been his most overt, consistent and overarching plot line this season) AND he doesn’t deny the queer accusations thrown at him this episode.

I’m still not sure if Eddie KNOWS he is gay, but at least subconsciously we see an awareness. He is still denying himself joy but he is no longer denying himself truth. We haven’t seen the lie of saying he is straight or denying the intimacy of his and Bucks relationship even when he had multiple chances to do so this episode. In this (closeted) limbo the only choice is silence!!!!

However, this is television and so silence is temporary and the queer subtext this season is LOUD! I must conclude that is leading to something.
