Sometimes I Just Say Stuff

I think it’s funny how whenever they ask ryliver questions about the characters Oliver is like “oh the writers are in charge, I’m just following them😊” and Ryan is like “☝️let me tell you 🫵 what should’ve happened”

The other day I joked about wearing a Buckley-Diaz lafd t-shirt and sexy firefighter costume tights for sex and my partner audibly gasped. Never give up on finding someone who matches your freak ❤️

I find it a little disappointing how much of Eddie’s growth has happened off screen. I love happier, more confident, more settled Eddie, but after he went through the torment nexus last season, they haven’t really shown how he got here. It’s just. Eddie’s no longer forcing himself to date women, Eddie no longer thinks Chris needs a stepmother, Eddie’s reconnecting with his religion, Eddie Knows. And he’s fine with that. It’s all very fine. And while I’m enjoying these developments, I wish we could’ve actually seen the work that went into them.

I would love to see Buck putting Theo in a lot of sports programs, and it’s working out really well for him. He’s adjusting to his new life, he’s making friends, he’s getting some energy out. And Buck isn’t a big sports person. He doesn’t really know what he’s doing. But Eddie is THRILLED. Eddie is so excited to have a little version of Buck to play sports with. And so Eddie is spending so much time practicing with Theo while Buck is the one that shows up to every game an hour early to get a good spot and set up snacks and posters to cheer Theo on.

Now that we’ve canonically had Eddie talking about Buck’s sperm, I’m thinking about an established buddie surrogacy arc where Buck is supposed to give his sperm and Eddie is so subconsciously jealous of someone else getting to have Buck’s sperm that he keeps accidentally sabotaging the appointment and edging Buck like the last donor arc.

The thing about Ryliver is when I first joined the 911 fandom I thought “oh people only ship them bc they’re projecting buddie onto them.” and yet, the more lore I learn and the more I watch them interact, the more I’m forced to admit that. Hmm. They are. Bizarre. About each other in their own unique way.

Christopher gets to Texas and his grandparents set him up in Eddie’s childhood room. There’s a shelf of ballroom dance trophies next to sports trophies and risky business and top gun dvds and a Bible on the dresser that doesn’t look like it’s been opened much and sports magazines under the bed with oil marks from his fingerprints on the players’ pictures and stick figure drawings from Adrianna and Sophia pinned up next to band posters and his old dance shoes next to his baseball shoes next to his church shoes. And all at once Christopher really misses his dad and wonders who he was and who he is now.

I was really enjoying the Hen mystery illness plot line until they randomly made it about Bobby’s death because, with the exception of Hen and Athena’s conversation and buddie’s kitchen fight, NONE of the characters have talked about their grief. Buck has tried a few times (the grief assessments, the ghost, the cookies) but is always dismissed or mocked. Hen hiding things because she wanted to fix it all herself made sense, but Bobby’s death felt randomly shoehorned in. It went from a specific, interesting, in-character plot line, to one that could be applied to anyone in the 118, and the shift felt abrupt and unnecessary.

This may be a ridiculous stretch, but I love how Ilya uses “Mr.” when teasing Shane. “Mr. Real Estate,” “Mr. Businessman,” etc. Even with silly, teasing nicknames, they need the level of separation that is a last name.
