Some of the notes on this are aggravating so I’m gonna sum up what some Jewish bloggers have been pointing out and add a bit myself: Jews are still very much a primary target of white supremacists. Antisemitism did not end in the 40s and if you think that stories like these mean “wow, I thought we were safe as Jews but now all of a sudden in 2018 it’s back and we’re surprised” then you wildly missed the point. Every Jew I know has encountered antisemitism at some point, some in extremely serious ways, and any of us who follow Jewish news hear about hate crimes and attacks all the time. Perhaps they are not in our area and we don’t internalize them as threats, maybe we get along with our neighbors and don’t expect it, but that’s a false sense of security. Even this person who claims she hasn’t felt threatened before has stories of close relatives almost being blown up – we know. We do not share stories like this because it’s new and we’re surprised. We share stories like this because YOU are ignorant of what’s going on and need to be reminded that yes, even in 2018, this still happens.

So I don’t want to hear it from people saying “but antisemitism ended in the 40s” or “now Jews know what it’s like” because we have always known, and it’s you who have been denying it and refusing to help because your own antisemitism tells you that Jews aren’t worth caring about. Your denial is not helpful and your snide remarks are useless and cruel because a good many of us have been screaming into the void for you all to pay attention and you never do, and now you act like this is new.

So the VFW, otherwise known as Veterans of Foreign Wars, otherwise known as "Veterans Still Alive" still exists. Are they just, like, holding on with hopes that there will be another civil war? 'Cause if they've secretly been funding the charge for armed insurrection with intention of communist revolution this whole time, then I'll let my inner Trotsky out.
