you know what. I cast spell of pīwakawaka snuggle session
ID: dozens of tiny round birds with long white tail feathers snuggled up together on a wire. the wire is bending from the weight of all the birds
TARGET AUDIENCE REACHED

As summer approaches, as someone who lives in an area that gets more touristy every year I keep getting pissed off
Travel groups, bloggers, influencers jne will always say stuff like "talk to LOCALS. this is a place LOCALS reccomend. Listen to the LOCALS for cool hidden gems" and as soon as we local people say things like hey, maybe dont use airbnb because they take all the affordable housing in the area and make the city centre unlivable for us? All of a sudden its "shut up! You should be GRATEFUL for my MONEY" we're a fun feature of the landscape until it comes to being respected as people and not glorified theme park employees

WIP Wednesday: The Bard Hero
Extract from the mini prequel to The Masked Rogue. This takes place when Link is 9 years old.
---
My new Master spends the rest of the day showing me how to sew and sewing himself, attaching all the scraps of fabric he got to my new jacket and pants. He’s produced a length of rope from his pack for me to use as a belt, and by the end of the day, he makes me put the whole outfit on again: the shirt, the newly patched jacket and pants, the socks and the shoes.
I don’t need to see myself to guess that I look as crazy as he does: the outfit is, after all, pretty much the same: my jacket and pants are now just as covered in all kinds of colors and patterns as his, and the pants and jacket being too long for me surely don’t make me look any more normal.
Vitalo looks at me up and down and smiles. “Excellent,” he says. “Now you properly stand out, even from a distance. People don’t pay for a show they’re not watching, Link, remember that. You want people to look at you. You NEED people to look at you. Eyeballs are rupees. GRAB them. ALWAYS.”
I nod.
“Now we work on charming their ears, too, because eyes notice but ears stay. Let’s hear it, kid. Sing.”
And thus starts my training as a bard. It’s hard work pretty much every day. I learn to sing, and to play both the lute and the pan flute; I learn to dance, and to do some acrobatics; I learn to read and write because it allows me to study lyrics, plays and jokes when I’m not busy performing or perfecting other skills.
Vitalo is true to his word: he knows a lot of comfortable and safe spots to sleep, and we eat every day. In fact, we’re soon doing well enough never to need to settle for old bread: the crowds are loving us.
*on a first date* so what are your intentions with my me
Been super into Zelda lately
(Drew me and my partner as Zelda and link yup)
For comic artist ask game: 8, 19, 30!
(also your comics are really cute and they totally count)
Do you draw traditional, digital, or mixed media? Ever considered switching it up?
I currently use both traditional and digital media to make art generally, but comic-type things I mostly do digital because I enjoy the level of control and the ability to save my progress without leaving papers everywhere. But I only got my first drawing tablet when I was... 19? Okay, way longer than I thought! There's a certain level of improvisation with trad media though that can't be replicated on the computer, so what I draw traditionally tends to look very different from my digital art. I'm okay with that, but I don't really have the patience (or space. or time) to make too many physical comics atm.
Do you have an idea for a comic that you don't currently feel ready to tackle, but hope to pick up in the future?
There is a set of OCs I've had for a long time that I'd like to write about, but the nature of the comic I want to make with them would require writing extensively (and somewhat formally) in my second language, which despite studying and using it for half my life I don't feel confident enough to do on the internet. So it stays in the back burner for now.
Share a comic of yours you want to talk about more!
Originally answered here about a different comic but I also would like to talk again about this one a little bit. It's the longest thing I've made (or at least shared) so far and I have thoughts about it.
On the more self-critical end: I'm surprised it was well-received because it was very much written with little planning and took about five times longer than I originally thought it would. And it shows. If I were to do it again, I'd try to tighten up the story a little and plan better so that it feels more cohesive. I'd also spend more time on backgrounds, but I'm going to give myself a little grace for having had to improvise putting snow in a setting that does not get snow and for which I still hadn't totally solidified what I want the layout to look like. Baby steps.
That said, I do feel some of the most improvised panels were also the best-executed, particularly when it comes to facial expressions (I'm not a very emotive person irl so it's important to me to convey expressions as clearly as possible). You can't tell me this isn't hilarious:
I also learned a lot about how I could streamline the process for multi-page comics, and how to deal with more than two characters in a scene at a time, which is very difficult! So I'm glad to have spent some time practicing that in spite of the steep learning curve to put everything together. Hopefully, with perseverance, the next long comic will be slightly okay-er!
Thank you for asking :)
