So I've been looking to get into martial arts for health and self defense purposes, there are so many schools of it. Would you have any recommendations or at least what to avoid?
No clue. But martial arts for self defense is stupid. Buy pepper spray and a flashlight.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will make you strong and greatly improve your cardio. It will also teach you what to do on the off chance your pepper spray doesn't end the encounter.
Still get pepper spray and a good strong taclight though, and study how to use those appropriately in self defense. 500+ lumens right to the eyes is no joke, and in the right situations can be nearly as effective as pepper spray
This is the Streamlight ProTac, its $50.
350 lumens of "Fuck You" right into your eyes, and with a double tap of the button it strobes, completely disorienting anyone unfortunate to be on the receiving end. They make brighter ones too.
Like the (only slightly, at 500L) improved Protac 2L-X
It's like having a spotlight in your pocket. I've used mine to back off aggressive raccoons, and to look for uneven pavement on my night walks, and to look for cat toys under the fridge. Really good tool
Mine was 70$ I think? But I've had it for 5 years now, they're basically indestructible
Adding on with my Thrunite TC15 which is small and in "Turbo Mode" gets over 2000 lumens (and very hot). Strobe mode gives 1040 lumens! And you can get 'em for $50 or so 👀
