Alli has always been the kind of person that is seen as wearing her heart on her sleeve. She is warm, practical, and genuinely caring. She has a natural ability make others feel comfortable, and she uses that most when she's working. Her reliability has always been seen a good trait, but she has always put everyone else's needs above her own. She isn't good at asking for help and focuses on dealing with whatever is bothering her alone. She is a hard worker, and she often stays late to help whenever she needs to. Outwardly she tries to maintain her bubbliness and friendly attitude, but sometimes it can fade into a quiet clam when she has hit her limit. Her protectiveness shows most when it comes to her son and others that she cares about. It all comes from love, but it can sometimes make her too cautious when it comes to making decisions for him.Â

Allison was born and raised in Merrock. Her family had an old farmhouse in the countryside, and she spent most of her time outdoors. Her father built her a treehouse in the back that overlooked the garden, and she loved to sit and watch the wild rabbits look around for something to eat.
Growing up, she learned to take care of the animals, and she developed a love for it. Wanting to become a vet felt natural when she was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up. Her parents encouraged her to chase her dreams, and she would always end up asking a hundred questions every time they visited a farm or ranch or had to take an animal in to be seen.
School came easy for her, and she was glad for it when she realized how much she would need to achieve her dreams. She stayed focused on it and always kept something on hand to look over when she had a few minutes.
The one thing she didn't count on was falling in love young. Dom and Alli started dating when they were fifteen, and they were never far apart from one another. They dated for three years, and she knew everyone expected them to get married. Part of her did too, but they wanted different things. She wanted to stay in Merrock. It was a mutual decision to break up, but it didn't make it hurt any less.
College was the distraction she needed to not think about him and what could have happened. She put everything into her degree and graduated in three years with taking summer classes. Vet school was harder, but she had been determined to complete it her entire life. It was there that she met the man she would marry, Luke.
He proposed shortly after they both graduated, and they settled into making a life for themselves in downtown Merrock. Finley was born a few years later, and they were excited to introduce the first grandchild into the family. Alli's parents were debating selling the farmhouse when Luke proposed they buy it instead. They ended up swapping houses, and they moved into her childhood home when Finley was two. It was a dream come true, and they quickly made plans to start a garden and get some animals.
It felt like their life was perfect for a few years. Luke had to stay late for an emergency one night, and he never made it home. The loss and the funeral were hard on Alli, but she tried to stay strong for Finley. She kept busy and tried to keep things as normal for him as she could. Her parents helped when they could, but she struggled to let them know she needed more from them.
It's been four years since Luke's passing, and they have found a routine that works for them. It took her time to open up about everything, but with the help of her friends and her family, she is healing and finally feeling like she can move on without constantly jumping from one thing to the next.

craved independence from childhood. hestia knew she wanted to get out on her own and watched people around her be lazy, says she wants nothing to do with that. her family has a reputation in merrock for that, and she wants to defy the odds. if asked details, she doesn't go into them; so far as she's concerned now it's in the past and that's where it stays. but she remembers walking to school and doing her lemonade and tea stands and trying out ways to get her own money made. this included working on cars.
she trialed at the mechanic shop, not knowing anything. she was there at 16 and kept going up until she finished community college. then a narrow miss: she was almost caught underneath a car when the jack broke. thankfully it was nothing more than a narrow miss but the fear stayed with her and drove her into other odd jobs. she bounced around, not keeping many, then got nervous. what if this means she really is like the people she left behind? they moved out of merrock and she didn't go with them. was she really going to keep being like that or so she thought?
no. she liked cars the best and likes being able to fix her own when it breaks down, so she decided to get back into it. she's been working in the office to be around them even if she hasn't gotten brave to be an actual mechanic again. plenty of time for that. she fills her time with a lot of community work and volunteering, and pushes against the status quo wherever she can. it means asking questions others don't want to ask which is fine with her. she hates not knowing and being left in the dark; there's a reason she's still single.
overall she likes being simple. isn't one to crave chaos and if she does, she likes being at the heart of it. gossiping at the coffee shop gives her more happiness than traveling the world for example. nothing wrong with liking the small town life, even if she's growing more suspicious of her small town every day.

jaehyun was born into a different world. his parents were older when they had him and his sister to follow was a miracle. around age 5, his dad started losing his sight. over the years, he slowly went blind and jaehyun watched him become a shell of his former self in his teens. his dad was still there but he felt like he lost him. their family is one that doesn't talk about what's wrong, so he researched what made his dad go blind on his own. this got him interested in medicine and maybe finding a cure, or something to slow it down.
scary things like glaucoma, macular degeneration and others are ideas jaehyun no longer wanted to be scary. part of why he got into it was to comfort his dad too. his dad used his hands a lot and liked to garden, looking at the flowers they planted together, and all that was taken away. it took a lot of hard work, sleepless nights, and every time jaehyun's own eyes hurt, he wondered if he'd lose his sight too. however that simply added to his drive. he did this for his family, forgetting about any other option as a job.
he interned at a lot of places and went around the south to research as much as possible. he was known as a workaholic and not able to commit to anything too personal outside of the workplace, married to his job, etc. but he became a pharmacologist out of it and made a breakthrough in some research, and yet he felt empty. he realized he couldn't change his dad's mind about his condition and that he needed to look at his own life. where does he want to settle? how? looking at online job postings led him to see the one posted at merrock's hospital. in a time when jobs felt scarce and he felt alone, he figures this is as good a time as any to try and start over.
although he still has a good relationship with his family, he now tries to separate himself from them. he tells himself his research and job will help merrock's people, he can find more purpose, his routine, etc. he struggles with the guilt and still buries himself in his work but maybe merrock will change his outlook as he heads into his forties? he hopes so. otherwise he'll have to start over again.
